 Historical Facts About the Property!

The Andrew Jackson French Quarter Hotel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located on the site of the famous courthouse where Major General Andrew Jackson was indicted for contempt of court and charged with obstruction of justice. A major general in the War of 1812, Jackson became a national hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans. Jackson incurred the charges of obstruction when he imprisoned the judge who had charged him with contempt. When the future President of the United States appeared in court, he refused to answer the interrogatories and promptly received a fine of $1,000. In 1844, congress ordered the fine with interest [$2,700] to be repaid.

Leaving the courthouse that day, Jackson stopped and spoke to a large crowd that had gathered :
``I have during the invasion of New Orleans exerted every one of my faculties for the defense and preservation of the Constitution and the laws. On this day I have been called upon to submit to their operations, under circumstances which many persons might have thought sufficient to justify resistance considering obedience to the laws, even when we think them unjustly applied, is the first duty of the citizen, and I do not hesitate to comply with the sentence you have heard pronounced; and I entreat you to remember the example I have given you of respectful submission to the administration of justice.``

The hotel is unique and in a great location to walk almost anywhere in the Quarter. Jackson Square and Bourbon Street are just minutes away. The rooms are comfortable but small, but the real win at this hotel is the traditional interior courtyard, it is a great place to have your coffee in the morning. As a nice touch, the hotel offers free coffee and croissant deliver in the AM. However, after waiting 30 minutes past the requested delivery time (there's only 30 rooms, all with different del... Good hotel for location. Right in the heart of New Orleans. Great courtyard out back to relax. Light breakfast served each day. Rooms tiny with history. Cleanliness leaves a bit to be desired. Most of the staff friendly. Parking is expensive at usd39++ per day.

We had a wonderful stay here. The hotel is historic and very beautiful. Royal Street is close to the action, yet far enough away to not have the crazy street noise as Bourbon. The staff was very welcoming, with a special shout out to Annie who we loved chatting with each day. We had our croissants and hot coffee delivered to the courtyard each morning and with the trickling fountain and visits from the next door kitty, it was a perfect start to every morning. The room was not large, but very c... Read more

This was a fantastic trip right from check in with Melissa. She greeted us with a smile and our check in was painless. Our rooms were clean and comfortable thanks to Terion and Brenda. Breakfast was served by a wonderful lady, Annie. She greeted everyone with a smile and good morning. She was helpful with any plans that we needed help with or suggestions on what to see. This was worth every penny. Thank you all so much for making our stay so wonderful.

More beautiful than I could have imagined and the entire staff was warm and friendly. French sounding guy at the front desk was hot enough to make it more than worth while. There is also a very sweet cat that lounges around in the courtyard that would be more than happy to sit calmly with you and let you pet her. I called her Simon. You can call her whatever you please. The ghost left us alone and we slept in peace. Very comfortable.

This is a great historic old hotel and that is reported to be one of the most haunted (although a number of buildings have that same title :)). It is in a fabulous location and the staff was very nice. As with any historic hotel, sounds travels very easily, so be ready with some earplugs during big events. You can hear everything outside the room and your next door neighbors. You get complimentary croissants and beverages in the morning (they were very good!). My biggest issues were the si... Read more

They whole place and stay was great and surprisingly quiet for being in the french quarters .. Pretty centrally located in the quarters as well. Loved being served breakfast to our room on our schedule..croissants were perfect start to day. Plus had very good coffee in lobby 24/7. Never had to touch the coffee maker or go out to get coffee. Good rates on top of it. And staff very help with recommendations and directions etc..will definitely recommend and stay again!

Old charming building with great service. Everybody was extremely nice and helpful, our room was very nice, clean, and big, it was a two double bed room in the first floor. Loved the complimentary breakfast with hot croissants and coffee, served by a very nice lady with a wonderful smile, great way to start your day in the French Quarter. The location is great for exploring the French Quarter.

When we first got to the hotel, we were greeted with a smile and a friendly hello, This historic building has more charm then any hotel chain. Our room was kept fabulous by Brenda and our breakfast was served promptly with a smile by Annie. Any help we needed was provided by an attentive Mr. DeVergnette. My wife and I both loved our stay there and can't wait to go again!
