 Historical Facts About the Property!

The Andrew Jackson French Quarter Hotel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located on the site of the famous courthouse where Major General Andrew Jackson was indicted for contempt of court and charged with obstruction of justice. A major general in the War of 1812, Jackson became a national hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans. Jackson incurred the charges of obstruction when he imprisoned the judge who had charged him with contempt. When the future President of the United States appeared in court, he refused to answer the interrogatories and promptly received a fine of $1,000. In 1844, congress ordered the fine with interest [$2,700] to be repaid.

Leaving the courthouse that day, Jackson stopped and spoke to a large crowd that had gathered :
``I have during the invasion of New Orleans exerted every one of my faculties for the defense and preservation of the Constitution and the laws. On this day I have been called upon to submit to their operations, under circumstances which many persons might have thought sufficient to justify resistance considering obedience to the laws, even when we think them unjustly applied, is the first duty of the citizen, and I do not hesitate to comply with the sentence you have heard pronounced; and I entreat you to remember the example I have given you of respectful submission to the administration of justice.``

I arrived on a very cold night in Jan. and found front desk very friendly and helpful, but upon entering my room, I first noticed a cold draft that made for a very chilly night. Also, the TV remote did not work, so the staff brought me another one - it did not work either! Then, when I used the toilet, the seat was not attached causing me to slip off on the the floor. Finally, the wifi was poor and kept dropping, which was very frustrating! I would not stay there again.

I stayed at this hotel with my friend in early July 2017. We really enjoyed our stay! The gentleman at the front desk was very friendly. I loved the historic/restored feel of the hotel. The front entrance is very nice and the hotel is kept clean and is well-maintained. The rooms were decent. A little small but I can't complain. I liked the courtyard and I enjoyed the warm croissants and coffee every morning! The location was also great. I'm glad we chose to stay in the French Quarter.

It has charm. It has character. But it‚??s filthy. I used facial cleansing sheets to clean the edging in the bathroom, light switches, door knobs, and the doors themselves. The towels and face cloths were stained with long black hair accompanying the clean sets. The shower had very poor water pressure and only lukewarm water, never hot. The air ducts in the main room had black‚??stuff‚?? with tendrils of black dust bunnies hanging from them. The door to our room had a large gap in it so the room w... Read more

This hotel is very historical and makes you feel like you are somewhere special. The breakfast was a delightful perk, and the courtyard was charming. A perfect place to stay for a fun visit to this great city.

We knew by booking an old hotel there would be some challenges included with the charm. We did not expect however it to be totally run down and dirty with gaps in the outside door and a bathroom door that had to be lifted to close. We also expected our room to be clean and to be cleaned daily. Our sheets were so threadbare that you could literally see through them. Our towels were all stained. There were long dark hairs in our tub and on our bed every day. If our floor was ever swept the wind ... Read more

Stars for location, which is really great, but we would never stay here again. The room was extremely dirty, and we were charged for another guest's stay without our knowledge or consent. Details below for those interested in the long story. Extremely dirty: Our bed had a duvet wrapped in two sheets. In the morning, the sheets had unwrapped from around the duvet, and it was disgusting to see how filthy the duvet was: the edges were black with dirt and grime, and there were coffee stains all ove... Staff is friendly, helpfull and efficient. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast coffee and croissants with strawberry jam are a real treat and I'm fussy about my morning coffee. Location, location, location! It's in the middle of everything.
