We love the st Francis! It's close to theaters, fine dining, overlooks union square, and the rooms are spacious and clean. And the beds! The Westin dream beds are fantastic. The service is phenomenal. We had a king room overlooking union square during the holidays. The front desk, concierge, & housekeeping staff were courteous, prompt, and eager to help. The only downside were the holiday crowds in the lobby.

I was here for a conference. It was a perfectly situated property, a quiet room with a great view in the Tower. What made great was the people: a special shout out to Anthony G. Rodriguez a concierge who remembered my name immediately and made me feel like an honored guest. Everyone had great recommendations and were very gracious and attentive. Even the valet walked me to the elevator since my hands were full and I needed one of them to operate the sort of confusing elevator set up which inv... Read more

Its in a great location- right in front of Union Square. But the hotel is in need of an update. Rooms facing Powell Street can be noisy. But restaurants are great, walkable to downtown sights and shops. If you want rustic old charm stay here; if you want more modern and up to date amenities, there are other smaller boutique hotels around the area.

Our favorite place to stay in San Francisco. We book the Landmark building, over the newer building, for its character and charm. We recently stayed in room 1209 which was a corner room that overlooked Union Square, beautiful! The staff is great, the rooms are clean and classy and the hotel is in a great location. We'll be back!

Interestingly enough, the Westin St. Francis on Union Square is owned by Marriott as is the Ritz Carlton, yet the two properties could not be more different in terms of service and general attitude of the staff. I had stayed in this hotel previously more than ten years ago and from what I have seen the service and the hotel quality has degraded significantly. I stayed in the new tower section of the building which is nice and updated. The primary issue with this hotel is that there is no system ... Read more

Westin hotels are an upscale brand and the Westin St Francis lives up to this reputation. The beds are amazing. It is conveniently located in downtown San Francisco right across from Union Square. There is lots of high end shopping within 400 yards of the hotel and live theater is just down the street. Overnight parking at the hotel is very expensive.

Having visited this hotel many times in the past I can now comment on the actual intrinsic facility. I stayed in the tower which was nicer apparently. The room was fine and the staff was very friendly. Certainly there are more exciting hotels in San Francisco but this is a fine place if you stay.

Five months ago I stayed at the St. Francis. I had a refurbished room and gave it 5 stars. This trip I requested the same room. When I checked in I was told that room was already assigned but they had an identical room. It was not as it was not refurbished. I was shown 2 other rooms. All substandard. Rugs worn, curtains torn and this is for full price - $500 per night. They said that rooms won't be redone for another year and I was lucky to have received the other room last August. Luck... We were sent to this hotel due to problems with cruise ship. Very impersonal and very cold. Staff were wearing large wrap around scarves to keep them warm. On first morning at breakfast there was no bowls for cereal, plates we used for eggs, bacon etc were cold and waitress thought it odd that the plates should be hot. Had to remove food from seat before sitting down. Not somewhere we would return to. Could go on and on but we were glad to move on.
