Awesome, historic building with a great lobby/rooftop lounge. However, the staff are unfriendly at best and generally inhospitable. I went through 5 different keys, as they kept malfunctioning. This, combined with long wait times and even lines for elevator causes for a very bad experience. Because I didn't bring my ID when getting a new room key, one staff member even questioned whether I was the actual occupant of the room and forced me to return to my own room escorted by security! I always s... Read more

I wish thus hotel wasn't on our corporate list as its certainly not a business hotel. Yes it does have character and the lobby is great and as a tourist it might be interesting to stay here. But as a business traveler who just wants a smooth experience it's not suited. The hotel is dated, doesn't feel very clean and in places it literally stinks, probably from the old carpets. I was worried my suit would smell after hanging it in the closet. Also there was no minibar and as far as I could tell n... Read more

The hotel has character but was very dated with small rooms, extremely small bathrooms with no place to keep your things and the elevators were so slow and very inefficient. I would not stay there again if I have another choice. Weirdly, we had a walk-in closet that was bigger than the bathroom! The staff was friendly and when we did request something, we got what we needed. It wasn't an overall bad experience but I do feel that from an accommodation standpoint, there are much better hotels ... Read more

Location is good but hotel is not worthy. Old buildings with terrible elevators system. There is no restaurant on site. Small bathrooms Nothing really to highlight at the hotel Go for another brand if you want the location, there is a Marriott and Hyatt in same block

If old world British is your cup of tea, this might be a good choice. Located near union square it's well situated. Public areas are worthy of sightseeing, so if staying here take a tour of them all. There is much to be appreciated in this grand old dame if they can keep up with it. Rooms are smallish especially bathrooms. Internet is extra, such a shame especially in this city elbowing up to Silicon Valley where tech is king. Charging for internet Just seems excessive (if not a bit greedy). ... Read more

Central location was good, but noise from outside is non stop. Homelessness would appear to be the main contributing factor, the expletives were unrelenting and disturbed sleep was the consequence for us. Fortunately we were moving to a different room after the first night, one which looked out onto the back of the hotel and it was bliss. Homelessness is very visible, all four corners of the crossroads seemed to be occupied from early evening. As 2 females it felt intimidating and resulted in u... Read more

My wife and I spent 5 nights at the hotel. We were there for her year end company conference. Our room was on the 18th floor and gave us some nice views of the city. The room was great and the staff was wonderful. Since the company paid for the room I can't give an opinion on the room cost, but whatever it was, it was worth it. Now I must warn you, if you park a car while staying at the hotel prepare yourself for "sticker shock". Overall, it was a nice stay at the Drake.

First time we stayed here we were saddened by the very thin walls in the normal hotel rooms. This time we stayed we decided to upgrade to a jr suite. What a difference. The neighbor noise was the only complaint we had last time(very noisy neighbors) and this time we have no complaint. The only thing I would advise is that if your a light sleeper(the wife) look into a jr suite. It wasn't that much more and it made a huge difference to us. Thanks Sir Francis Drake see ya next time!??????

We stayed at the SFD a couple of days ago. It was great! I received a Kimpton email offer with a really good price and I booked it! This hotel is really unique. The Beefeater doormen are an awesome touch! The hotel lobby is beautiful. It is definitely "Old World" SF. There is a beautiful bar in the lobby with interesting furniture and seating areas. The check in was easy. Even though the the registrars were busy, I never felt rushed when it was my turn to check in. The registrar was pol... Read more

Stayed at Sir Francis Drake -Kimpton and it was a perfect vacation. The location is fantastic and there are many restaurants and shops that are easily walkable. The hotel is even close enough to walk to Fisherman's Wharf. It's a bit of a hike but the walk through Chinatown was really fun and there were some terrific photo ops. Take Uber back tot the hotel. It's cheap and the hills are big. Check-in was a breeze. The staff was polite and helpful and the doormen in beefeater costumes were so ... Read more
