The hotel is a bit "long in the tooth", but rooms are OK, with comfortable bed and bedding. WiFi was practically non-existent in room, and unexpectedly slow even in lobby. (The AT&T cellphone coverage in the area is also very spotty). Not a good location if you conduct business from the hotel, so hence only 2 stars.

Spent 5 nights here and everything was fine. Nice reception staff, always cheerful and ready to answer any questions or help with finding a corkscrew! Room was plenty big enough, loved the shower. Walk in wardrobe with a safe. Coffee machine in room but they have coffee available in reception each morning so it was nice to pop down and make a couple and then take it back - yes you do need to get dressed! Location is also good, 10-12 minute walk from Union Square or walk up the road to pick up a ... Read more

The Vertigo was recommended by a work colleague, and I'd do the same. Modernised hotel with distinctive decor, friendly staff, decent sized rooms and a good location - an easy walk from Union Square but far enough away to feel like a neighbourhood. Comfortable bed, well-stocked bathroom, all the essentials. Only thing missing was a minibar/bar fridge but plenty of breakfast options nearby.

Nice location for walking to Union square, Chinatown, and to the wharf. Lots of diverse restaurants close by, different price ranges. Very helpful front desk staff. Plenty of ubers in the area. Hotel is historic because of its cameo in the movie vertigo, so it is quite old. It is nicely kept up and the rooms were very clean. Bathrooms were newly updated, good water pressure, good drains. Felt very secure. The rooms were big, the beds were not.

Booked this hotel through Tablet Hotels, who used to be a trustworthy source of good hotels. The staff was unfriendly, the room was old and smelled funny. The bed and linens were cheap. Their internet connection was a joke, slower than a 56K modem.

The good fortune on Vertigo from JPM Health enables market based price gouging. But this one makes me dizzy. You would think that for the premiums the hotel received it could respond in some way from a service level. The friendly desk attendants all seem in some type of guided fog about the bare bones internet bandwidth. Signal ranged between bleak and non-existent. Separately, when you check in to the hotel, the video screen features a fitness center - which, you learn, has been under construc... Read more

The location was fine - it's a hilly 20 minute walk to the convention center, which is fine by me. Service was friendly and as helpful as they could be. Room was big enough and clean. BUT. The walls are paper thin. I could hear both sides of a phone conversation in the next room, and every word that was spoken in the hall. The "thermostat" is a three way switch FAN-OFF-HEAT. The shower didn't close. All of that's forgivable, I guess. But the internet is a DISGRACE. It doesn't count as "free" if ... Read more

This hotel was very nice! The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Everything is kept clean and good looking. The lobby is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. The elevator was pretty slow but we just ended up taking the stairs, no problem. We will be back!

The hotel is nice. Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable. And we love the location. It's walking distance to many restaurants and points of interest (Chinatown, etc.). The hotel's parking was pricey so we opted to use a garage a few blocks away. But I would definitely stay again!

Stayed here over New Year's weekend and I was quite impressed! Our room was quite large, even had a walk in closet. The bed was very comfortable, which is the most important thing. Throughout our stay, the staff were all so friendly and cordial. It was actually nice staying away from the tourist areas of the city, as it was quiet but still close to everything. We'll definitely stay here again!!!
