We stayed in a "historic" room. It was very clean, the bed and pillows were comfortable. It was quiet and we did not hear any noise from our neighbors. The hotel is located 1/2 block from Union Square, with shopping and eating within walking distance. We had a wonderful stay and would stay there again.

A traditional art deco style hotel, which looked a little tired. Rooms were comfortable, but the rooms overlooking Geary street were very noisy with single glazing. Breakfast service was open to the public and resulted in long delays.

Though the location is fantastic, the hotel is definitely odd. First they tried to put us in a room with a view of a brick wall that was so small we could hardly get our bags in the door. When we said that wouldn't work and requested an upgrade, we did get a bigger room, but it was very confusing how to get there. There are two entrances on either side of the hotel, so you can enter from two different streets. It wasn't particularly clean and I just don't think I'll stay again. You are bett... Read more

Stayed here for 9 nights. Not luxury but excellent value for money. Location is perfect for sightseeing and shopping. Staff very friendly and professional. Had breakfast in restaurant next door food was great but the smell when you walk in isn't. Pool was a bit cold but had it to ourselves all the time. Always felt very safe going in and out of hotel and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. Oh and make sure you visit the irish bar across the street. Foleys I think it was called .... Stayed at the Handerley on the first leg of our Honeymoon in Oct 16. Upon arrival a bottle of champagne was brought to our room which was a lovely touch. We had an upgraded room which was quite dated but we didn't mind. Room was clean. Breakfast was not included but as we were on our honeymoon they gave us complimentary vouchers for breakfast which was appreciated. Hotel is in super location for all attractions in the city.

Great location right on Union Square, but bring ear plugs if you're room is on the Square. The Daily Grill served a nice bar menu and had a decent wine choice, but like everything else in SF not cheap! Nice hotel, with everything you need but needs a bit of care & attention. Our room was a good size with a tiny bathroom, but our friends room was much smaller with very little room to spare for suitcases etc

We cannot overemphasize the convenience of the hotel location. Right smack next to Union Square with Macy just a stone's throw away and walking distance to all the shopping stores in that area. Also one minute to the cable car station. We stayed in a double double room and didnt have any view. We noted there were some rooms with balconies though which faced the other side of the street. So if you want balcony remember to check with the hotel. The room looked a bit worn and the toilet a bit s... Read more

The Handlery is a timeless San Francisco treasure! Unlike some of the other historic downtown hotels, the Handlery doesn't show its age. With an outstanding staff and a perfect location, the good sized rooms and comfortable beds are spotlessly cleaned and maintained. We hadn't stayed at the Handlery in years, and were there for a special occasion -- wedding anniversary weekend. Jon Handlery, the president & general manager, took the time to greet us and see to all our needs. The hotel is a sho... Read more

This hotel is right in the heart of Union Square. The staff is friendly and Cheryl (the concierge) will help you find the type of restaurant you want at the time you need. The rooms are small like most seasoned city hotels but the beds are comfortable, the bathroom is well lit and the flat TV is great. Plenty of plugs for all our divices. The only CON is the water pressure is a bit low; but OK if you like rain showers. I prefer a shower massage!

This hotel is very well located for a trip to San Francisco. The rooms are a bit tight for 2 adults and 2 teenagers, but this is made easier with a sink in and outside the bathroom. The breakfast provided is great to start the day. It could though do with more variety. Recommend asking for a room that does not face the street. The lack of view is made up by the good night sleep. The Pinecrest Diner up the road is great for a meal.
