I was the chairman of my high school class's 50th reunion held in late October, 2017. We had about 100 people attend. I was the chairman of my high school class's 50th reunion held in late October, 2017. We had about 100 people attend. I visited this "boutique" sized hotel (as compared to an enormous Hilton, etc.) about 18 months prior, and met with Keith Allen, the Meetings Director for the hotel. From that time until the reunion, Keith was extremely responsive and helpful in every way. As the time became nearer, and reservations were being made by classmates, if there was a problem, I would call him and he fixed any reservations that needed fixing, took care of special requests from classmates, and was attentive to the ways in which I wanted the reunion to run. We worked on the menu, style of meal service, decor, table setup, the whole works. When the day came, it went as smooth as glass!
The staff at the hotel bent over to accommodate my classmates. I could not fault anything. Oscar, the banquet manager, was ever present during the reunion to make sure their end of things went smoothly. The food was delicious, the food stations had plenty to serve everyone, the staff cleared the tables unobtrusively, and all went according to Plan "A" as far as the hotel, their staff, and accommodations.
They offer a free shuttle to and from John Wayne/Orange County/SNA Airport and as available to South Coast Plaza and other local locations.
Leading up to the evening reunion festivities that day, I held a "meet and greet" from 3 to 5 pm and had informed Keith Allen of my plan to do so. I think I forgot to mention it to him until near the date of the reunion, however - my bad! Never fear - he had a patio off the bar/eating area set aside for our group, and it came off without a hitch.
Right after the 'meet and greet' began, and I'd had a sip of wine on the patio, I got called away for a period of time, and left the glass there, Upon returning to the bar area near the patio, I saw someone I wanted to speak to, at the bar. After sitting down, John, the bartender, asked if I wanted anything to drink. I mentioned I'd left a glass of wine out on the patio, sort of absentmindedly. A minute later he returned with my glass of wine, saying he'd seen it out there, and put it in the shade for me earlier. Really???? Who does that? GREAT SERVICE!
We had an informal 'everyone meet for breakfast' the next morning after the reunion, and they again accommodated our group well. Buffet breakfast, delicious, easy and left us to be able to keep the reunion going a little while longer before check out time.
All in all a wonderful experience. The people whose names I didn't catch were the people at the check-in desk who all tried very hard to work as diligently as possible to have our rooms ready for us by 3pm, the rest of the waitstaff in the bar/dining area, and Oscar's crew in the banquet group. All were SO helpful - and completely made the reunion the success that it was.
The ONLY negative comments I can make is that their toilets are SO low to the ground that for older people used to ADA-height commodes, it might be a problem. So if you feel you might have a problem with that, ask if they have an ADA-designed bathroom - room available. I don't know if they do or not. And it appeared they were a bit short-staffed in their ability to have back-to-back functions two nights in a row, where they needed a large number of rooms cleaned and prepared by the 3pm check-in the next day, which caused some of our group to have to wait a bit beyond 3pm for our rooms to be prepared. A minor inconvenience compared to everything else they did so well.
I would pick this hotel for any large overnight function, for around the number of people we had, in a heartbeat, and for staying there for a weekend in Orange County, or for any other reason, You can't go wrong.
