When my wife and I arrived for a one night stay in the Phoenix area we were blown away by the gorgeous surroundings in carefree and the elegant buildings at the resort. That first impression was soured by a poor experience at the front desk- where we were coldly received by a front desk agent who didn't even bother to greet us. She provided us with our room keys and an early check in as well as a map of the area but with the distant aloofness of someone who obviously didn't want to be bothered b... Read more

Beautiful setting. Not overly fancy, but clean and comfortable. Historically significant to the area Lariat restaurant is very goo, reasonably priced if under staffed. Nearby Carefree offers several must do Roadhouses (1.4 miles) Good food, cold drinks, great crowds. North of Scottsdale, about 45 minutes from airport without much traffic. Worth a try for a quiet getaway with beautiful views.

The staff was friendly and helpful, including James, the young man helping at the tennis/pickleball courts. I left a very expensive overcoat in my room (the kind most people who love to wear). Their honest housekeeping folks turned it in . . . and the manager shipped the coat back to me at the resort's expense. I'll definitely be back!

Travel here once a year for business for a week in January. Great facility, friendly staff, and a quiet spot not too far from Phoenix. The rooms are a little dated but clean. You can see gorgeous sunsets around Carefree--enjoy!

Unsecure internet service did not allow me to access anything on my company computer. I can't recall a hotel that only has unsecure internet service. There wasn't a single secure location on the whole property. The lobby was clean and the service was very good with friendly professional attendants. The restaurant and bar were nice, again with professional, friendly and helpful service. The room was small, older and out of date but clean. The shower had great water pressure.

We also stayed for the Irish dance competition which was very convenient. I agree the older woman at the front desk was not very friendly when I stopped by to ask a question. Getting around the hotel is not easy as you have to travel what seems out of the way to get to your room. Our room though was very spacious and clean but very disappointed there was no fridge so we ended up having to throw out leftovers from restaurants. There certainly was plenty of room for one. Would have liked an ice... Read more

We had a perfect three night stay at Carefree Resort the end of December. Room was very clean and comfortable. Nice having the separate sink outside the bathroom. We used the hot tub and pool one night. Heated pool was fun in the winter. Christmas Tree was pretty in the lobby and loved the fireplace in the lobby. I could have sat by the fire all day. Friendly nice employees. With teen kids, it was nice to have some simple snacks for them to purchase in lobby. Complex was very pretty.

We stayed for an Irish dance competition over the weekend. Got in about 9pm Friday and restaurant was still open. We had a great meal, wish the waiter would have let me know there was a kids meal available. Front desk was helpful, except older woman who appeared to be a supervisor. Always acted like she was too busy to be inconvenienced to help a guest. I worked in hotel industry for years, 5+ at front desk, she did not promote customer service. Younger staff was friendly. Doormen/women always ... Read more

The setting is absolutely beautiful. In the gorgeous desert just north of Phoenix. We stayed for an event. We got a special room rate of $140 and apparently it normally costs $200+ per night. This is NOT a luxury hotel experience. First the door to our room was broken and kept popping open. Very old doors and clearly not replaced in the remodel. To their credit it did get fixed. Bathroom door wouldn't close either. They replaced the tile in the bathroom but left an old, dirty, plastic shower d... Read more
