We stayed here for three nights. The hotel is easy to find, right downtown on the main road. Parking is available in a small lot behind the hotel. When we arrived I think we got the last spot for the day. The hotel is presented covered in scaffolding as they are refurbishing some parts of the hotel. A few days before check-in, we received an e-mail from the hotel that the elevator was not working. Check-in was smooth and we got a room on the second floor. The elevator was back working. T... The staff need some customer service training, they were ignorant and didnā??t really speak or smile, they certainly didnā??t look happy at work. The room was small and the bathroom tiny. The food was awful, tough meat, inedible puddings and an excuse of a cheese board, very disappointing. At breakfast a table of ten was expected to share a large pot of tea containing only 3 teabags which meant the tea was more like dishwater. The dining room was dirty with food on the floor at breakfast time fr... Read more

Stayed in Royal Hotel 6th to 10th November 2017 half board booked through Travelsure Coach Holidays. Organisation excellent from Hotel and Travelsure - booked into a lovely fully refurbished room. A warm welcome on arrival from Hotel Manager Stephen who gave us clear instructions of check-in procedure. Food choice excellent and buffet breakfasts best we have seen in the UK for a long time - what a choice. On the Hotel Quiz afternoon a good selection of scones and cakes plus tea/coffee and in ad... Having booked through Booking .com and seeing the rooms on the hotel website we were looking forward to our short stay in a "Superior" room. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly desk staff and given our room 506 on the top floor. This room bears no resemblance to the pictures on their website. To all intense and purposes it is an attic room right at the very top of the hotel roof. From my point of view there is nothing superior about this room. It is small, cramped for 2 people, the bathroom... Read more

After a 10 hour drive from the Southwest, the Royal Hotel was a welcome sight and easy to find. A small secure car park took the worry out of parking. Brilliant location within a couple of minutes of the ferry port. Reception staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel is clearly an old building but nicely kept. The rooms were spotlessly clean. The breakfast buffet of a large choice of hot and cold items was excellent. Very reasonably priced

I stayed in the Royal Hotel in Edinburgh this last month. Here is what I experienced. First, I was with a group whose rooms had been reserved by the tour director using an American Express credit card. The tour director was staying at another hotel, and part of our group was in the Royal. When we came to check in, we were informed by a very rude desk clerk that the hotel did not take American Express, and we needed to pay. Why would the hotel take a reservation on a credit card they didn't ac... Read more

We only stayed here one night and our room was tiny. However, the hotel was lovely. The staff were pleasant and accommodating. We had a nice dinner in the hotel restaurant. There was entertainment in the bar. We were able to walk to the harbor. We would have spent more time in Oban if we could have.

I stayed 1 night in this hotel and it was not until after I checked in that I was informed I would have to walk up 3 flights of stairs (approximately 90) ( I am disabled)as I had already negotiated this I decided I would not go back up until bedtime. I received an e mail at 4pm offering a free cancellation but it was too late. They helped me with luggage . As a lot of customers are pensioners and disabled it is not good enough. The hotel is in a great location and is getting a big fac... Read more

The hotel is located around the corner from the train depot. It is impressive on the outside; old Victorian (?) charm. They have been updating/ renovating the place bit-by-bit. Although the rooms cost a bit more, be sure to request one of renovated ones on the top floors. Our room looked to have had a recent makeover and was quite nice; we were amused by the floor: it creaked and squeaked like it was over a hundred year old ( which it probably was ). Even the floor in the room creaked when p... Read more
