Arrived at the Ritz on Friday November 3rd first impression absolutely dreadful very doggy smell as soon as we walked in the place had minus and plus points the minus points was it is very dated very shabby the rooms had mismatched bedding and curtains and carpets ( of which was heavy stained) a dog friendly hotel on the last morning we decided to go down in the bar area and try some breakfast which is Continental which was ok the off putting thing was a chap walked in with 2 dogs and sat down o... Stayed here over a long weekend for a friend's wedding due to its reasonable pricing and location. The hotel is dated but its vintage style someone works for this quaint hotel. Imagine canvas 4 poster beds and lots of doilies. Considering we were out all day, it was a great place to rest our heads - so we can't complain. Stayed March 2012 (sorry for the late review).

Looking out our bedroom window you can see the Hilton opposite, and I think to myself: should we just check out and move over the road instead! Anyway, the best thing I can say is the place has character, the rest if it just ordinary. Certainly not the value for money I desired. Oh well, it served a purpose, but the most uncomfortable bed I've ever had.

Stayed here one night while in Edinburgh for a gig. On arrival the stench of dirty wet dog in the reception area was revolting. The smells throughout the hotel were unpleasant. This place isn't period, quirky or boutique, it's an embarrassment to Scottish hospitality. Hotels can be traditional whilst still being clean and serviceable. The curtains didn't even close in our room. There was a thick layer of dust on the four poster frame, carpets coming away from the edges, the bed was appalling, th... Read more

We only needed a place to stay for the night. We had a late check-in (10pm). All we needed was comfy bed and hot shower. None of that happened. The room was past being"dated", it was sad and shabby. There was no sheet on the bed, only the duvet. And the mattress was disgusting. We actually called the Hilton but they didn't have the kind of room we needed. The staff were friendly enough, that's why I rated it a "1" because Zero wasn't an option.

Stayed 2 nights 16 and 17 September 2017. Room 3 The place wants condemning. Shabby carpets wires sticking out through the walls and ceiling. Kettle from the 70s. Dangerous shower almost need a ladder to get into it. Shabby lounge. Needs health and safety check. The price of over £100 per night is ridiculous I have stayed in far superior hostels. Please do not stay here.

We booked this hotel on the internet for 2 nights at only £45 a night. The hotel was exactly what I expected, clean but dated, the rooms had everything you could need the bar only sold bottles and cans at Edinburgh prices, £5 for bottle of Magners. The hotel offered a basic breakfast of cereal juice etc which they didn't charge for but did no cooked food. This was not a problem as there are many restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk. Prince's Street is a 15minute walk. Staff were very... Read more

Have stayed in this hotel three times between 2012-2016, its the only place i stay when in Edinburgh. Central location, great staff, cool little bar, and nice rooms. It is a botique old style hotel, so not the most modern looking, but that just adds to the charm. its a great place to stay for the price.

It's very clean indeed but that's about it. The room we stayed in was clean but the bathroom was very dated. Down stairs in the reception was very worn. If you want some where clean and average it's for you. 5/10
