This was our first trip to a Motel One hotel, and it certainly won't be the last! I found the hotel purely by chance and firstly couldn't believe the price for a hotel in central Edinburgh. The hotel is situated just behind Waverly Station and is easy to find by following signs for the Market Street exit and turning right and crossing the road. The hotel was cosy and inviting and although we were early our room was ready and the receptionist gave us a free upgrade, I was glad of this because I t... Read more

My wife and I had a great stay at Motel One. It's in a great location on Princes Street across the road from Waverley Station and Bridge where the city sightseeing bus tours and airport buses stop. We stayed in room 400 which though was small was very comfortable, clean and has everything you need for a weekend stay in Edinburgh including tea/coffee making facilities and an excellent hairdryer(so I am told). The only negative about the room was the heat, it was very warm. The staff were extremel... Read more

First time to use the hotel though was recommended by German friends. Not disapppointed Great location - the city tour bus stops outside the hotel, Princes St and the Royal are walkable, Waverley station very close, nice restaurants/cafes nearby (see other reviews). Rooms very clean minimal and surpising spacious, internet is fee and generally good though we had some issues for 36 hrs and used the lobby more but it was our room not the hotel Given I stay in all sorts of hotels, this was great... I cannot recommend this hotel enough, perfect location for access to Waverley Station, The Royal Mile and Princes Street. Everywhere was spotless, friendly staff, didn't eat at the hotel so cant comment, room was a bit stuffy but I find that with most hotel rooms. Have already recommended the hotel to friends and family and will definitely return on our next city break to beautiful Edinburgh

Stayed for one night to see a show at the playhouse. Hotel is just a stones throw from Waverley station our room was on 5th floor overlooking princes street absolutely fantastic view! The room was spotless! Very clean & cosy. Bathroom / shower very modern . Friendly staff , stayed with my sister yes it is a double bed but we had 2 duvets as a divider . Only 1 thing I didn't like were the pillows 1 too hard 1 too soft not comfy but I'm just being picky & its personal preference.... the lights abo... Read more

The hotel is in an amazing location, just a few minutes walk from the station and just off The Royal Mile. The room itself was quite basic but a decent size and nice view of New Town. The staff were really friendly and there is a lovely bar in reception which is open 24hrs.

This was about our 5th stay at this hotel, it's extremely reasonably priced during Hogmanay compared to others and excellent value for money. Our room had a great view up Cockburn Street yet was surprisingly quiet. The 24hr bar and reception area is an advantage especially over Hogmanay. The staff always seem friendly and welcoming and will go out of their way to help you. Location is perfect, right near the train station and easy walking distance to both the royal mile and princes street. On... Read more

There's plenty of energy here - and the Scots are on the whole smiley. Loved the best of the tartan weave and Scottish wear shops - though a lot of outlets on the Royal Mile do not have the finely woven fabrics made in Scotland, but have them made in India. Look for the upper quality shops - particularly one down an alley on the left as you go down - great atmosphere, Scottish reels playing, booklets with tales of the various clans, sporrans, dirks and much else. There's also a wonderful Christm... Read more

Many moons ago I was a manager in this place. It's still what it sets out to be. Nice enough in among surrounding rough stuff for tourists these days. Lucky that it still looks good so gets less of the wanderers that go elsewhere.
