Stayed in the family room with 3 singles and 1 double bed. Very basic room, slightly dated. Only one plug socket in the whole room and no TV. Bathroom needs an update. Breakfast was OK, plentiful. Staff were pleasant and helpful. No reception so you just have to stand outside and ring a bell until someone comes to let you in to check in. Walk to the hotel felt tiring due to inclines, not easy to ‚??nip‚?? back whilst out and about.

I stayed 1 night at Halcyon. The room was clean and tidy and very spacious. Breakfast included and friendly staff. A great location within walking distance of Calton Hill and Princes Street, convenient to getting in and out of city centre.

I just had 1 night at the Halcyon but have already booked again. It is 15 minutes walk at most to Waverly station but feels quiet and secluded. My room was clean and tidy, the staff were splendid and so was the breakfast. At £68 for the night it was not expensive, the only comment would be that if you don't like stairs make sure you don't get a room on the top floor it's quite a trek. 9.5/10.

Had our eyes taken out here. Extremely expensive room rate hiked up for fesitival and tattoo. I wouldnt have been bothered if i could have opened the window or had a fan. It was ridiculously hot and no ventilation available. Room was extremely dated and basic for the room rates paid. Pleasant enough staff. Breakfast was not as expected. Bacon seemed bolied and then quickly fried. I was so disappointed in this as we had booked and expected so much more. Sorry but not an experience id like to rep... Read more

Stayed here only for a night. It was comfortable stay overall. The location is central to all attractions of the city and very convenient if your travelling by train. I was given a room on the top floor. The room was as comfortable as expected however the window in the ceiling was uncovered and the morning light made me wake up earlier than I wanted.

The staff who greeted us when we arrived and who served us breakfast were very polite and friendly. The breakfast was lovely. The room we had was a little tired. It was clean but was in need of some updating. The price we paid was reasonable for such a handy hotel. Very near to all the sights. No lift so make sure you ask for a ground floor room as it's a long way to the top floor.

Lovely street, lovely building, loveky staff but my room was not nice at all. Very claustrophobic as it had no proper window just a very high skylight velux. No TV or hairdryer in room and I couldn't find anyone to request latter at around 8.00 pm. Breakfast was good and varied but I wouldn't return or recommend to friends. My room definitely spoiled this stay and was not worth the £67 I paid. Website photos and reviews I read were very misleading in my case.

We stayed at The Halcyon last night. It was close to The Playhouse Theatre where we were seeing a show. It was fine for a one night stay. We were in room one which is a family room. My mum is disabled and this room was on the ground floor. Nice view onto back garden. The room was clean and warm. Decor could do with a freshen up though. We did have a bit of difficulty getting mum's wheelchair into the hotel as there are a few steps. A ramp would have made all the difference. I would have like... Read more

the hotel is ok for a few nights, but not for people who normally go to normal hotels. this one is a mix of B&B and hotel. it is quite old with dirty carpet, water from shower is not existing - impossible to wash long hairs :-). The service is not there, they would ask you if you want the room to be done.....but hey, it is not a pricey hotel so you get what you pay for

we were booked for one night only by our travel agent, just needed a place to sleep before traveling on. We arrived late and another guest let us in the front door. However at that point there was no reception desk or phone and the doors were closed. We puzzled over this for a while and when another family came in, they showed us the buzzer outside that would alert the owner to our presence. Matthew came from his room and greeted us warmly. We did have to walk up but that was not a problem... Read more
