We stayed over on the 1st of November. Fantastic building, beautifully restored and decorated. Breakfast very well presented. Also lovely reception staff. Returned a Mac-book charger we didn't even notice we had left for cost of postage. They contacted us. Will stay again. Also perfectly located for Edinburgh Uni and tourism.

Late booking searching for Edinburgh but not the seething centre of things. Following GPS was as challenge till we realised the hotel was actually in the university grounds. Clearly, the university had grown up round it and absorbed it. Building scored high on the weirdometer with a recent history as academic/university conference accommodation, it's history as a stand alone hotel was quite recent, and , with reception in another building, the hotel was quiet. Rooms were good. Bed comfortable. G... Read more

I booked this hotel for a weekend away; my parents came too. Check-in was not quite what I'd expected. This hotel is set around buildings that are used for events/conferences and I think it's linked to the university. There was a barrier to get through to enter and after direction we parked (space literally for drop off only) outside a different building to check-in to our rooms. The gentleman serving us also couldn't find my reservation initially - not the best start! We then found the actu... Read more

Location was very quiet and peaceful. After we checked out and left for the bus my husband became ill. We walked back to the hotel and requested if we could go back to our room to rest for a few hours. They were wonderful and allowed us to rest and offered to call an ambulance if needed. We were able to get some rest and he was feeling good enough to leave for the train. They called a taxi and also told us how to get to a pharmacy for medication. I honestly don't know what we would have do... Read more

This was a very nice place to stay while we visited Edinburgh. It was a very old mansion that has been turned into a quaint hotel. We were actually given a handicapped room which was a bit strange but we made do. The breakfast is a must if you stay here. Plan on taking a taxi or bus for seeing the sights.

I booked as I was attending a conference at the John McIntyre conference centre and this was one of the recommended local hotels. It took less than 10 minutes to get to the hotel in a taxi from the train station for under £10. Check in was done in the neighbouring building Masson house. Check in was quick and easy and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I was In room 14 in Salisbury green which was on the first floor. After 6pm you use your room key to allow you access into the hotel buil... Read more

The hotel is a little difficult to find, we finally had to just put the Commonwealth Swimming Pool into our GPS which got us close enough to find it on our own. There was parking on site which is a little hard to find in Edinburgh. The hotel is close to a bus stop but about a 15 minute walk to Holyrood Palace and the end of the Royal Mile (I suggest starting at the castle and walking down hill!) Our room was a little on the small side and could do with a little maintenance (cracked tiles and ... Read more
