Had a amazing time in the Nishiyama Ryokan! The people were very nice and helpfull to me. I felt like a local japanse for 2 days. The location was also perfect, I could get to all the highlights of Kyoto very easily. If I go back to Kyoto I would stay again in Nishiyama Ryokan. I would recommend this ryokan to everybody who is visiting Kyoto, you wouldn't regret it!

Great area with many hidden treasures and easy walk through arcades to downtown. Lovely traditional room, nice and quiet and clean. Good Japanese breakfast and a sweet gentleman performing tea ceremonies in the morning. We will be back.

Wonderful stay! Exceptionally helpful and kind staff. Stayed in a Japanese style room, very comfy. Lovely public baths. Close to transport, food, grocery stores. Highly recommend Nishiyama Ryokan if you would like to experience a Japanese inn in Kyoto. The bathroom is small, would be difficult if you are very tall though the public baths are great, I didn‚??t use the shower in my room very much.

Stayed here 2 nights in a traditional Japanese room. The staff is extremely nice, showing us the public bath, dining room, our room and when inside the room even showing us the information book page per page (now that's a first!). Upon recommendation from my friends, I also booked the kaseiki dinner (2 evenings) and 2 breakfasts were included. The kaseiki dinners were top-notch, delicious and fresh, with an eye for detail and excellent service. I also liked that the dinners and breakfasts were ... Read more

The public bath was great! We really enjoyed trying out the yukata that came with the room, which we ended up buying in town as a souvenir because they‚??re very comfortable. I didn‚??t realize until we were checking out, but this is the owners‚?? home; they served us green tea together when we were checking out. It‚??s close to shops, restaurants, and the subway. Definitely recommended!

They have good mattress. Even though you are sleeping on the floor, you can't tell because the mattress is very good and thick. Try their Japanese breakfast, it is very traditional and nice. Their public bath is ok. Not natural spring, just hot water. Bath at their public bath, because your room toilet is very, very tiny!

After reading all the great reviews about Nishiyama Ryokan, we decided to book our 3 night stay in Kyoto with them. We are so happy we did. This ryokan exceeded our already high expectations. We were greeted by friendly staff on arrival and welcomed with their welcoming ceremony which included a cup of tea. We had opted for the option to drop off our bags before check in so we were able to get to Kyoto early and explore. They were kind enough to provide recommendations for any type of cuisine we...
