This is a relatively high-end boutique hotel on the beach just west of the Liberia airport. It is just north of Playa Hermosa, but not really within walking distance of anything. The beach on this part of the coast is very dark sand, almost black. As a result, the sand gets very hot and you canâ??t walk on it without shoes except for where the waves have made the sand wet. If youâ??re there on the weekend, the actual beach can be quite crowded with locals, but itâ??s not really a problem since t... Read more

Staff was excelent and the whole setting of the hotel is worth the visit. Stayed 3 days and just hoped I would have booked a 4 th night. Food was very good. Thanks to all the staff. Your in a mangle but with a high class ambience. Small hotel and it's xactly what me and my wife where looking for. The quiteness makes the difference if you want a nice and relaxed vacation. Perfect size.

We visited with our 2 and 6 year old boys and received an upgraded room. I was skeptical at first due to some of the slightly negative reviews I read. A couple mention poor sand because its not your standard color or texture, concerns about not having enclosed indoor eating areas... and bugs, mosquitoes but I would take those reviews with a grain of salt... The sand is fine and did not have any problems with bugs while eating.... The food was excellent...sometimes depending on the # of people... Read more

Beautifully designed, a lot of open space. Staff is very friendly. People seem to enjoy working at El Mangroove a lot, good atmosphere. Pool is very spacious/long and the water temperature is perfect. You can borrow kayaks and bikes for free (other beach sports available too). The bay is great for swimming, almost no waves (so no surfing area). Food is quite expensive but totally worth the money. Great drinks/cocktails.

My wife and I traveled to Costa Rica with another couple to enjoy some time off, and decided to give the El Mangroove a try since it was not marketed like the other hotels with lots of activity and nightlife surrounding it, we just wanted a relaxing experience to decompress, and that is exactly what we got. It is not nearby to any other hotels, however, we heard that there is a small restaurant that can be accessed using the bikes that are provided. The Hotel itself is like a Frank Lloyd Wrigh... My husband and I came for CME class taught by Medical Studies Abroad. We flew direct flight from Atlanta; landed in Liberia; rented a car from Economy and then drove about 20 miles to The Marriotts , El Mangrove ( mangrove translates to swamp in English) Friendly staff. Wonderful everything . I just hate that the developers killed 5 live trees and left their skeletons . Glad to be here.

I just returned from my first Costa Rican experience and saved the El Mangroove hotel for the last portion of the trip given its proximity to the airport, beach location and that it is part of the Marriott collection so I was able to use points for my 5 night stay. The hotel is beautiful and simply breathtaking from the moment you arrive till the moment you leave. I especially loved the way that the architecture blends in with the environment. My only complaint would be that I wasn't offered a... Read more

I'm a bit of a hotel snob, in that I like to stay nice places, with nice amenities, that's esthetically pleasing. I'm not a high maintenance guest, however. I don't show up with airs or expect preferential treatment and I'm definitely not critical of events that are out anyone's control i.e. inclement weather, insects, etc. That being said, El Mangroove met the mark, on every level. First, it's beautiful. The design is inviting and chic. The subtle details are well thought out, like the accent... Read more

We flew in to Costa Rica then traveled to Nicaragua and then planned on spending one night at El Mangroove. That turned into two nights. What an incredible hotel. I can't say enough about the customer service we received and the room was out of this world beautiful. Highly recommend El Mangroove. One of the best places we've ever stayed at.

First, this is a fairly new hotel. I believe it's only about 3 years old, which makes the architecture and amenities pretty modern. It's thoughtfully laid out and has a decent beach with minimal wake. The pool is located at the center of the complex with cabanas on one side and a bar on the other. Plenty of hammocks, reclining chairs, swings, and a place to check out bikes, SUP, kayaks, etc. They have two restaurants available and the food is good. The hotel is located a short distance from Li... Read more
