Buena Vista Lodge is off the beaten track situated around 10 km from the coast. We had a very rustic cottage with a fan - no ac. Clean, basic standard. They have a good adventure program. We did the ziplining and rode horses to the hotsprings( 4 km). We also walked the skywalk and watched the sunset from the Sunset bar - very nice! The buffet is very basic but ok. The a la carte in the Jungle restaurant is something we can recommend - both the tuna and the salmon pasta was better than average. ... Read more

We stayed there for three days two nights, they have very nice environment in the countryside on the slope of volcano, have a great views of sunset. Our room was nice and big with two queen beds, but the bathroom a little too small and the waste bin without a cover made the smell to came out, I had to use something to cover up. Some parts of the grounds were well maintained, other parts were in bad shape. Many of the hotel guests were from local and US. The whole day activities was fun and exci... Read more

If I could give it 3.5 stars, I would. There were many good features of this hotel/lodge, and some less than great. I stayed at three different hotels on my trip to CR, and this was my first stop; as such, I didn't have anything to compare it to while I was there. I arrived very late (around 11pm after my flight had been delayed), and was a bit nervous arriving at a *very dark* resort. But an after-hours maintenance man had my key and check-in folder and showed my taxi driver what building to dr... Read more

I am so happy I found this place. It was like a big farm hacienda. The rooms were clean, basic and comfortable. The grounds were very well-kept and just beautiful. Food was delicious and there was dome variety as I did mostly the buffets. This time of the year wasn't so busy and it felt quiet, peaceful and lush. I also went horseback riding and simply enjoyed all the lush scenery and views this place has to offer. I was in Costa Rica for work so it was great to take the weekend off get out o... Read more

One day stay was not enough to enjoy the amenities this place has. My family did not want to go back home. The rates and internal policies allowed me stay with my husband and 2 children for a cheap price. The payback received is priceless. Great memories kept. We were amazed with all the amenities including service provided, sea side view and climate. We loved our stay and will repeat the trip.

You have an option of just day tripping here - to use their facilities - and I think that is a very good option. I stayed here two nights - the rooms are OK - but NOISY. Zero soundproofing, no TV's, phones etc - which was fine for me. The food is expensive, and not great. So if I did this again - I would stay in Liberia where I could walk around and find a restaurant - rather than being stranded out here with only this option. As for the attractions - the ones I wanted to use were closed - ... Read more

We did not stay; a day trip only. 4 adults (?), a 3-year old, and a 7-week old. 3 adults had a great time on the water slide - 1 on "slow," 1 "medium," 1 "fast," all fun. No kids under 6, with good reason, but there were "almost tears." Coffee tasting and purchase of a pound of whole bean dark roast. Buffet lunch was OK. Canopy walk a little disappointing. 2 toucans, a few money's, spiders and lizards and a lecture on trees and butterflies. With the water slide and zip lines in close prox... Read more

About an hour drive from Liberia (4wd suggested).Great accommodations, so much to see and do. We went there to be close to Rincon de la Viejo, but we never left the property. Incredible view from the sunset bar. Horses, water slide, waterfall and much more. Great breakfast included. The hot springs were the best we've ever seen. On a scale of 1-5, they get a 10. Even you don't stay here, do not miss them! We wish we could have stayed a few more days.

We made a reservation and did not quite know what to expect. We were really surprised by the nice little house that our room was, great views, an amazing spa (!!) and a good restaurant ( try the seabass!!) with very friendly staff. Clean spacious room, two big beds The only disadvantage I can mention is the distance to Rincon NP. (Make sure you also walk to the waterfalls there, if you are fit to hike!)
