then you'll absolutely adore this place. A simple cup of tea should not be hard. Yet you have to go look for the server to order, then you get a half cup or tepid, weak tea, then you have to go look for the server to get your bill. And your bill will come to 70 yuan ( just shy of $13 Canadian dollars ). Anf after you faint you'll wake up to find they were not kidding. Sure it's pretty and has those oh, so expensive-to-maintain grounds, but in a city awash in amazing hotels the only thing amazing... Read more

We stayed here for a week. What a lovely setting and 5 minutes walk to 2 underground stations and to some of the best shopping centres and cafes in Shanghai. The hotel has a wonderful history. The staff are outstanding and go beyond what is necessary. When we arrived I needed an Apple shop as I was locked out of my iPad. There is an apple shop just 5 minutes away. When I sought walking directions, we were escorted to the Apple shop and the hotel representative discussed with the staff our requir... Read more

This hotel has a lovely setting and is very quiet, however the levels of service simply aren't there. Every time I stay I do see improvements but so much lets you down that one is always disappointed. There seem to be lots of more senior staff (defined by their black suits) who wear all sorts of communication gear; sadly, that communication is not with the customer nor, it would appear, is it with the staff! The concierge is excellent. Whisky sour? No, I needed to explain with use of an iPad wha... Read more

Stayed at Intercontinental this week. The hotel grounds are extremely beautiful and the rooms at Club Intercontinental (executive building) where I stayed is fine! As a frequent IHG guest, I was expecting a flawless service when I check out! BUT!!!! Although early (admittedly at 4:50am) , There is NO checking out service at the executive building! A junior staff was at the desk, but, apparently he was not authorised to check me out! In the cold, damp and dark Shanghai winter morning, getting in... Read more

The hotel is a compound composed of several buildings. The staff and service was of the highest caliber. The room was a piece of art. The amount of marble was simply stunning. The intricacy of the construction with inlaid oval recesses in the entry hall ceiling was nicer than that found in most homes. The location is in a very nice area.

For the second/last segment of our stay in Shanghai, we decided to stay here because of the history of this property and the garden. Overall, we were happy with that decision: In the midst of frenetic and densely populated Shanghai, it really felt nice to have this much beautiful green space to oneself (& other hotel guests); the garden indeed was lovely, even in January; and the floor-to-ceiling windows in our room in building 2 provided for a refreshing view onto the grounds. The location... Read more

We took 4 rooms for 3 nights at this Hotel, We got separate building, 2 rooms at main building and 2 rooms at 2nd building. But there was a Golf Car for transport to each building, so we did not need to walk with cold weather. The room was old but well maintained with a good view from my balcony. The Bathroom was clean and decent amenities. The staff was good and polite, but it took quite long time for check in. The food at breakfast was very nice with so many variety of food. There was a Man... Read more

I stayed on Dec.16-18 for two nights in InterContinental Shanghai Ruijin. There were some good and some not so good points as follows. My conclusion is the service quality cannot match this distinguished residency and the room amenities provided are below average of other IHGs. Good points: Location. Building, landscape and the room. Not so good points: I called the duty manager to raise some request next morning after my first night. 1. There was no welcome fruit (for IHG Ambassador member... A complete oasis in Shanghai. From gardens to buildings to rooms, just a stunning and top class hotel. Had a large suite with a massive bathroom with separate shower large enough for two, clawfoot tub, two toilets, and usual InteCon amenities. Massive bed. Dark wooden paneling throughout. Stayed in the Club Intercontinental side. Take a walk through the gardens. Multiple restaurants in the property. The property is well guarded and has high brick walls across the perimeter. Club service b... Read more

We will never forget our enjoyable week at the Ruijin. Built as the home of a late 19th Century French newspaper magnate, this is a walled, ten-acre estate filled with towering magnolias and broad green lawns surrounded by the intensely modern city of of Shanghai. My wife noticed that brides were having their wedding photographs taken on the property. As other reviewers say, it's really a collection of several elegant mansions. The Ruijin was a tranquil place to conduct our business meetings. ... Read more
