I recently organised a freediving trip for ten people to Hideaway Island. Christian was very helpful in the lead up to the trip. He and the dive team made sure we had everything we needed to have a fantastic time. We had generous use of the gear lockers and the boat dives were stunning. The beachfront has direct access to a 60m drop off so it's the perfect location for freediving training. The team were super friendly and we really enjoyed our time in Vanuatu. There was a bit of an issue with sh... Read more

We have just been to Hideaway for the 3rd time: 2007, 2014, 20016. We keep coming back because of the great staff, the easy-going style, the great snorkelling and good scuba diving. The rooms are nice and airy. No air-con, but ceiling fans which we prefer. We choose to stay in a bungalow but our daughter came with us this time and chose a room with share facilities which was also good. The clam-shell washbasins are really charming! The restaurant is open-sided and right on the beach with some... Read more

A family friendly resort that provides first class service and facilities. Excellent WIFI in the bar/restaurant ad common areas. Christian in the dive shop was a great operator and now a friend as a result of our visit. Food is fantastic and very reasonable priced. I will be back with the family to fantastic destination.

I came to Hideaway Island back in May 2015, just after cyclone Pam. It is amazing how much growth has occurred within that 12 months with the island now covered and very lush. The staff are always friendly and the best part smiling! We had the opportunity to try out the Melanesian night with their traditional cooking which was fantastic and very yummy. The diving was great ...really enjoyed clown fish patch...thanks Christian. Looking forward to coming back again.

We stayed for an afternoon on the beach. There's definitely plenty of fish if you're up for a snorkel, but the coral is pretty trashed. And the visitor-accessible part is a fairly non-descript bar/restaurant that feels like a set out of Miami Vice (the old one, not the rebooted one with Colin Farrell). It's worth an afternoon trip if you're in need of a change of scenery, but nowhere near as idyllic as other parts of Vanuatu.

Hideaway was fantastic for a school group of 33 Yr 13 students studying tourism development and the effects of the cyclone on tourism. Rooms suited our needs perfectly, food was lovely and snorkeling meant there was always something to do. Hosts were keen to ensure that our stay went smoothly. Thanks to all the staff.

$15 Australian per person to set foot on the island. We were three couples going there for lunch and we were met with this outrageous charge after also having to pay for the ferry across. The ferry was independent of the resort and ended up not charging us and was very apologetic about the added charge. The Vanuatu people are trying hard to recover from cyclone Pam and it seems shameful that a well know resort will charge a cover amount just to step on the island.

We were extremely well looked after by Mark and Sue last week - all 36 of us. The group was a Geography field trip for senior students from NZ and we felt very special when we arrived and realised the pergola on the beach had been set up just for us. This made meals and socialising very easy as we had a designated area to meet, chat and eat that didn't encroach on other guests privacy. Everything was very efficiently managed, clean and accessible. They put on a BBQ night and a Melanesian feast ... Read more

My husband and I were on our honeymoon in Vanuatu and were lucky to find a accommodation in Hideaway within our budget. It was by far the best placed we stayed at in Vanuatu. We got a room in the twin share accommodations (double bed), the shared bathrooms were always clean. The facilities were fantastic, with guest privileges. We had access to the reef rich off the beach, kayaks, snorkeling gear, and discounted dives! The staff were extremely eager to answer questions and provide directions. Th... Read more

Was fun for the kids to catch the boat back and forth from the mainland. Food was ok service was excellent from the lovely staff. Special thanks to Mamma Rosa, Louisa, Joe and Texon for making us feel welcome. Robbie and Brian for helping the kids with their snorkelling gear and making us laugh. Well Done to you all. Great relaxing stay at a bargain price. Friendly staff and the signature dish is the coconut curry chicken. Best night Friday at The Beach bar and the best ever fire dance show. No shuttle arrived for us at airport .Got taxi there but no water taxi working...In pouring rain on jetty at 1am taxi took us to Vila and we stayed at a motel. Disappointing. Hideaway Island looks amazing from a distance however when we got there we found it was an overpriced entry fee with not much to do. Day visitors cannot use the pool & are restricted to a small part of the island. Also you can't take your own food or any drinks onto the island.

If you want 5 star luxury this place may not be for you. However if you want a place with friendly staff and owners, good snorkelling and a good atmosphere then you can't go wrong. We had a one bedroom bungalow which was spacious and comfortable. Great views and a breeze in the afternoon ( which is handy as no air con). The resort is easily accessible by the free "ferry", or you can walk at low tide. Mele village nearby is worth a look. If we returned to Efate, we would stay at Hideaway again .

We heard about Hideaway Island through word of mouth and decided to check it out. Our flight in with Air Vanuatu was top class and were met at the airport by Kevin who helped us with our bags and took us the short trip to the island. We are a family of 4 and had an ocean front bungalow which was perfect for us. Nothing fancy but nice and clean and exactly what we needed. The island and the snorkeling(amazing!) is just stunning and and many a wonderful evening enjoying drinks and dinner(good food... Read more

I visited with my husband in July 2014 and again in July 2015. This year we visited Beqa Lagoon Resort in Fiji. Although the dive sites were amazing in Fiji, the overall holiday could not come close to the wonderful time we had at Hideaway in Vanuatu. Momma Rosa certainly makes Hideaway very very special. In Fiji, there was no one who came close to these lovely and sincerely friendly locals. I will always hold close to my heart the genuine friendliness of the wonderful staff at Hideaway. An... I am very glad that we decided to stay at Hideaway island for our Vanuatu getaway. It's a 2 minute boat trip off the mainland, and has it's own bar and restaurant. You're only a 5 minute taxi ride away from Port Vila. The bungalows are awesome; rustic and simple, but just lovely to stay in. There's a resident dive instructor if you're interested in SCUBA, and free snorkelling equipment for the amazing snorkelling just off the beach of the island. Would definitely stay here again if we returned t... Read more

Just spent a week on Hideaway with a large group of diving friends from SEAL and thoroughly enjoyed my stay on the island. The staff were very friendly and were quick to rectify any issues which were minor. The dive team were a pleasure to dive with and were always on the alert to point out small sea creatures. Great to see that some corals are coming back with Kathleen reef being in great condition and the wrecks being another good dive site option. A credit to your operation.

My family and I stayed a week here for a special birthday and loved our time. We had a range of accomodation for all of us and it was excellent. Cleaning staff were lovely, doing a great job daily. The bar and restaurant provided great food - the Hideaway curry is to die for! My brother and I did some diving and found them great, very professional and know the area well. Snorkel tours were lovely as well, with a great guide. The surrounding beaches are beautiful, with many fish to see without go... Read more

My experience at the Hideaway Island resort has been a mixed bag of positive and negatives. The most salient point would be that although I was in paradise, I never truly relaxed. I'll start with the positive aspects... Firstly, the snorkelling is just brilliant! There is a plethora of beautiful marine life and coral to see, literally meters away from the beach. Beach towels and snorkelling gear is free to use, making it very easy to spend the day relaxing and snorkelling. There are plenty of th... Read more

My girlfriend and I spend 3 nights at Hideaway at the end of a month-long holiday in Fiji and Vanuatu, staying in one of the villas. It was a very good and relaxing end to our journey. The 2-floor villa was very spacious and included both a private pool (which we didn't use), jacuzzi and a small kitchen. Upstairs was the bedroom which had a large, very comfortable bed, aircon and fan and ocean views. In the resort's main area, next to where the boat drops you off, there's a nice restaurant, wh...
