1.0 star rating 2/8/2016 One of the worst kept hotels I've ever seen, if not THE worst. We stayed Friday nite, what a mistake! From the disgusting, dirty and worn furniture in the lobby, to the smell of the carpet in the rooms and halls, this was beyond run down, into shabby neglect. The room was clean, the bathroom also, but the cracked rusty sink and nasty plumbing prevented me from showering. The "breakfast buffet" next day was a joke. No de-caf coffee, no FORKS? I mean, I asked the attendan... Read more

I stayed here for a week October 2015. The first thing I noticed is that the front desk personnel do not present a very professional appearance. There were too young women working the front desk and both were dressed inappropriately. One woman was wearing a very sheer dress (maybe a pool cover-up). The other woman was also wearing something that left it unclear whether she was an employee or a guest. SOME sort of uniform would provide a more professional welcome. I do need to say that the woman ... Read more

We stayed at the Magnuson while in town for a basketball tournament. The phone in our room was broken. The lady at the front desk tried to tell me that I did not know how to use the phone. Someone came to fix it, it needed to be replaced. The replacement phone also did not work. The front desk said they would fix it the next day and I told them that wouldn't help because we would be checking out. The toilet in the bathroom would not flush upon our arrival. The front desk called someone to help... Read more

I have stayed here twice during the past month. The rooms are large and clean, and the staff is friendly. It's right off the Interstate with easy access to downtown Madison. There is little to do near the hotel, except the casino, but there's plenty to do within a 5 to 10 minute drive. The only complaint I have is that the key cards get demagnetized all the time. I made several trips to the desk for new key cards at each stay. The clientele of this hotel consists mainly of men working ... Read more

We stayed one night. I peaked into the pool area and it was showing its age, but looked like it would do if you had kids. The public areas were clean...the carpet in the halls was in good shape and well kept and the lobby bathroom was sort of clean. The rooms are spacious and the bed linen and cover was newer. There was a couch in the room, but there was no way I was sitting on it. It was in good condition, but just...no. The bathroom needs updating (old fixtures, paint peeling on the back... Read more

Our niece was married at Over the Vines and the Magnuson was picked as the hotel to stay at because it had a shuttle to the Vines. Upon check in we went to our room and the smell of smoke in the room was just overwhelming, we were given the room next door and it was better but the rooms need a lot of work. They are in very rough condition but the beds and bathroom are clean. We have never stayed in such a run down hotel. The hallways smell musty, dusty and are dark and dreary. I was told by fa... My husband and I liked the location of the Magnuson Hotel. On one side you are about 1 block away from the Hochunk Casino. On the other side you have a short walk down the road to a gas station/convenience store and then there is Reverend Jim's Roadhouse restrain (I highly recommend trying it). Our room was ready early and was clean and updated. The staff was friendly and helpful. Nice continental breakfast. We would stay here again.

We stayed here because of their proximity to the casino next door. The hotel was modern and clean and the staff was fantastic. We dealt with both Sheree and Kevonda who were efficient and friendly. They gave us a $10 voucher to use at the casino, and I think that they give it to anyone who asks. So, be sure to ask! They did have a breakfast bar that was included with our stay. However, we got up a little too late to utilize it, so I'm not sure on the quality or variety of items involved. Thi... Read more

Rooms were not too bad although I found a long black hair in the bathtub. Room were roomy and beds were comfy. Breakfast was not a great experience. Tried to make a pancake after a man tried to make one as well. Neither of us had any luck and nobody from the hotel was there monitoring.

Unfortunately, our experience using the Magnuson Grand for our wedding block was just a mess in every sense of the word. We had chosen them because they were close to our venue and provided a shuttle for free to our guests ‚?? in hindsight, we would rather have paid an extra expense to hire a professional shuttle service and found a hotel that might have been more enjoyable. I had set up my block months in advance and had a hard time getting answers to the questions I would send in the months ... Read more

The hotel recently changed hands. We were there for a wedding, and stayed for a family vacation. The place was clean, the staff was weirdly accommodating but rude at the same time. They allowed the family to use the breakfast area for our own get togethers. They were short with us and disorganized when we all checked in, even screwing up billing and who was paying for what room. The bride and groom had a reservation for the wedding night, but when they got there, they didn't have a reservat... Read more

The management is horrible to deal with. We were corresponding with them about blocking rooms for a wedding. They told me that they had 10 available. They asked for contact info and said that they would get it set up. We sent the info asked for. When guests started booking rooms, they were told there were none. And after speaking with the manager they put the blame on us because we didn't sign a contract. They never sent a contract and the manager said that they couldn't take the blame be... Read more

One of the best hotel stays I have ever had. The staff was attentive and friendly. The facility was clean and nicely decorated. The rooms were comfortable and spacious enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. When the air conditioning was not working properly in our room we called the front desk. The maintenance man came within 10 minutes. It was determined that it required replacing, so we were given a new room immediately as the staff apologized over and over.

We checked in later in the evening....sketchy people in the parking lot. Hotel seems old and worn out but they try to keep it up. Rooms are ok but have a musty smell. Breakfast wasn't very good. I would probably pass on staying here again but would do if nothing else available.

No issues with anything regarding this hotel. It fully met all of the standard inexpensive hotel checkpoints. Staff were polite, room was clean, and there was a real breakfast included. We did not use the pool, nor did we eat breakfast at the hotel itself.

This hotel was great for the price. It was a little worn out, but had everything we needed. The hotel staff was great and very accommodating. They have a very large breakfast area that they let us use as a gathering place (we were there with a baseball team). We were able to bring down food and coolers; they were great about it and let us stay as late as we wanted. Great location right off the freeway. Not a lot around, but everything we needed. A bar and grill, gas station and a casino. ... Read more

Older hotel, some maintenance issues, including peeling ceiling in bathroom, though room clean. Good TV, free breakfast (though breakfast area not kept that tidy, and selection minimal -- biscuits with gravy and breads, no pastries). It is on a back road, after the entrance to a Harley-Davidson dealership and before the well-hidden entrance to the local Ho-Chunk Casino. Finally, it was no fun to return from a meal to find 5 Sheriff's cars in the parking lot and be unable to access my room for an... Read more

Arrived at 9:30 pm on a Friday night. No desk attendant on hand to check us in. Two other parties arrived at the same time. Rang the bell several times and no attendant came. Finally called the front desk from the house phone. Pretty soon two female employees meandered to the desk. No apology/reason for absence was given. The first couple checked in and immediately returned to the desk b/c there was already another guest in the room they were assigned! Sketchy guy loitering in the lobby who was ... Read more

We haven't been here for a few years after a very bad experience with very rude employees. We decided to give them another try. Very much improved. Check in went very fast even though the poor girl had to deal with rude drunk people before us. She kept very calm even with the phone ringing like crazy and these guys being a pain in the butt. The next morning the breakfast was kept full. The young man who was at the desk when we checked out was very nice and friendly. We will return again.

This was the choice location for a group price with a family wedding. We started out by getting the wrong room. They quickly corrected that. Then there were no hand towels or washcloths. They brought them promptly but not enough for all the people. There was only very tepid water for showers in the morning. There were new Keurig coffee makers in the rooms, but some were missing a part so couldn't make coffee. The hot tub was not hot and no towels were provided by the pool. The breakfast was not ... We have stayed at the Magnuson Grand Hotel at least 5 times and have been very pleased with all visits. The stay is friendly, rooms are nice, and it's close to the highway. And for gamblers, the casino is right down the street.

We stayed 2 nites in a king suite. Everything was clean and comfortable. The front desk was efficient and cordial. I especially enjoyed the indoor pool and hot tub. Breakfast bar was acceptable, but nothing special, so if a nice breakfast is important to you, plan to go out. (Still making this location a great value). It took only 10-15 mins to get to any of our Madison destinations. We were very happy to have stayed here.
