While this hotel is in a decent location and convenient to the downtown, Clay Center, Baseball stadium, and more - we found this to be one of the worst places we ever stayed. It started out with the front desk person who, when we asked about the continental breakfast, informed us it would take place at the neighboring, Days Inn hotel, and continued to say that his hotel doesn't offer anything anymore! "You'll get a decent place to sleep, but that's about it. The glory days of this hotel are over... Read more

I chose this hotel for its great location. It is right downtown in Charleston, with most that the city has to offer within walking distance, including charming Capitol Street. The room was decent with a comfortable bed and nice pillow, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and breakfast was sufficient. I'll stay again next time I travel to Charleston.

The Capitol hotel has the perfect location if you're wanting to be close to great activities in downtown Charleston. It is a budget stay, so don't expect anything overly fancy. That being said, my room was clean and had a comfortable bed. The staff was fun, friendly, and helpful. Breakfast was in the next hotel over, which was a very short walk. It was fresh and good. This is a great place for the money. They could charge more and it would still be a great value. I'll return.

Just 5 mins drive from the airport. Walking distance to downtown and Great food places. Free Parking. Free wifi in rooms. The staff at the front desk was amazing. She asked our requirements before she gave us a room. Guided us to the places to see around and places to eat. One of the most friendly receptions I have ever come across. The rooms are dated but well maintained and clean. I would definitely come back here.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location close to the Capitol and airport. I can tell at one time it was a nice hotel but it is ran down from the furniture to the wall paper in the room. The room I was given was next door to an empty room where the toilet ran all night. There were black ants all over the desk and the entire hotel had and odor. If I could give them a zero I would 1 is too high.

This hotel is tired and has seen better days. One elevator was working. Yo need to go next door to that hotel for breakfast. The ice machine worked but no vending machines. The furniture in the lobby is filthy. The desk clerk looks at guest like we are all dubious characters. Its right downtown---and right by the homeless shelter and a flop house where the truly dubious hang all outside playing loud music and often check out the cars in the hotel parking lot. The towels are less than acceptable.... Read more

So we stayed for just one night on our way to Williamsburg for vacation this was our first night away and seeing as how husband was going to have me camping in a tent for 5 days this hotel was our stopover it was all right for one night but you really do get what you pay for there were some stains on the sheets and a huge stain on the mattress but I just had my husband sleep on that side the water pressure was also pretty incredible as in the toilet never flushed properly thank God we weren't th... .. but if you're staying longer than one or two nights in town, another hotel would probably be better. I know you get what you pay for, but I did not expect outlets that did not work, peeling wallpaper, sheets so old and thin we had to continually refit the bed all night, a tv remote that didn't work and bath towels the size and texture of yoga mat. Top it off with having to go next door for the complementary breakfast. It was one cheap night, the staff was all nice and friendly and the parki... Read more

This was a hotel chosen by a non profit sports organization for our athletes. Definitely not my choice or recommendation to anyone ever. Once entering the room there was urine odor, very damp, stains all over, wallpaper coming off the walls, bottom cover sheet would not stay fitted on the bed, phones on 6 and 7 floor were not working in my other athletes rooms. Not enough towel sets in rooms for occupants and none available until the next afternoon. One washing machine down they said. 3 elevato... Read more

Not sure what this hotel was like last year but this week it was great. Easy to find around 1000 feet off interstate 64. Parking right next to building and free. Lobby has coffee all day and computer and printer if you need one. Breakfast is no charge and although it is right next door no big deal. Served until 10 AM with waffles, toast, cereal, eggs, sausage, rolls, mini muffins, fresh apples, oranges, yogurt, juices, tea, and coffee. We arrived at 9:30 and some items already gone but plenty s... Read more

This hotel was recently purchased and is being remoded. When finished it will be a Wyndham Hotel. Currently is in need of updating. Elevator floor has cracked covering as well as an unusual odor. Room was much nicer that I expected but could use some updating. For the price it was acceptable.

As I entered the lobby it was pleasant enough though the luggage carts looked like they were 20 years old. No one attending the front desk. The clerk came and was pulling ear plugs out and asked if I was checking in. The coffee was supposed to be just made but was only lukewarm. Lights in corridors were very low and hard to see. Hallway smelled of cleaner. Room was just ok. Pillows dingy. Windows were impossible to see out of. Tub was chipped and commode seat had stains on it. Bathroom... Read more

My husband and I stayed here because it offered breakfast and had decent reviews. The hotel is going through renovations so the breakfast was next door at the motel 6, which was awful. We got to the breakfast 40 minutes to breakfast being over and there was nothing, the drink machine was down so you had coffee or cold water. The hot water wasn't working but they had tea bags. There was little eggs left and pork sausage. I asked the girl at the front and she said the lady would be restocking in a... Read more

Rather laughably short on towels...beds are very worn out...lock on door defective... To turn this into a wyndem Will take tons of cash...ask for $40/night rate...you might get it. Staff seems anxious to please, apologetic about bare essentials hotel. I laughed out loud and long when I called down for hand towels and the response was "we don't have any"

Doing renovations so no breakfast. Had coffee in the morning and it was terrible. The room was clean but the tv remote didn't work very well. The elevator I took upstairs had an inspection certificate dated 2013, I'm assuming they are inspected but didn't replace the certificate. Staff was very friendly so they had that going for them. Hopefully after the renovations things improve.

Stayed here a year ago and it was "passable" with breakfast served next door due to construction. Now you literally WEAR the dust while you are here and there is NO breakfast any more. The wall paper is falling down around us in our 6th floor room (am hoping it doesn't cover us during our sleep; if we can). Pretty much a nightmare experience.

Staying here while volunteering with the American Red Cross in support of the recent flooding. It appears that most of the hotel is undergoing renovations, with bare walls and painters plastic and tape everywhere. The front desk clerk said it has been that way for a month and the renovation is supposed to take a year. In the meantime, there is no breakfast or any other food available. Absolutely no vending machines to even get a soda. The furniture in the entire facility is completely past it's ... Read more

There is nasty, and there is NASTY. This hotel was NASTY....looked like someone had defecated on the chair in the room, wallpaper was falling off everywhere, mold on the ceilings and in the bathroom. If you have to stay here....get inoculated first.

Our stay saw renovations in progress, which meant paint fumes and no Continental breakfast. The elevators are VERY small, but the room was clean, roomy and excellent. WiFi fast and easy to connect to I'd return and hope the renovations improve it even more.

Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Are renovating but only in the lobby. Bring a roll of paper towels because they don't have hand towels. Continental breakfast was next door at the Motel 6. It was good. Would stay again!

Although renovations are being made, this hotel was a very relaxing environment. Friendly staff, clean rooms, and a relaxing outdoor seasonal pool. I was told by maintenence staff that when the hotel was first built that there was a ballroom in the basement and that part of the renovations is to restore that ballroom. ??? I will definitely be visiting after the renovations are complete.

I was driving through Charleston and this was the only hotel that had rooms left. I got in very late and I'm pretty sure they sold out as well. As I was checking in the was another couple begging for a room as there was nothing else available in town. So to actually have had a room, I'm very thankful. The room was over all decent. The bed was comfortable and the a/c worked great which is always a plus for me. My biggest complaint would be that the bathroom was very dirty. There were left over to... Read more

It took all of 90 seconds in the room for me to turn around, go back downstairs and demand a refund. And this was around 9:30-10pm after my husband and I, and our two very young children had spent the entire day in the car driving, if that tells you anything -- it was truly that bad and this was not a last minute booking -- we had made reservations weeks in advance. The lobby is under construction with mattresses piled up in the breakfast area (we were told we could get breakfast at the neighb... Read more

The location is great and easy to get to. Parking was sufficient and well lit. The second floor rooms were clean and comfortable. Jim and Dorinda, front desk staff and housekeeping were very accommodating and easy to work with and exceptionally pleasant. The renovations made it difficult to enjoy our stay. Though they tried to keep down the dust, it was still there. We are looking forward to seeing the new hotel.

My assistant and I traveled to Charleston, WV to photograph a wedding and booked in advance based on the images online. We got there very late at night and most of the hotels in the immediate vicinity had no vacancies. As we went through the lobby, we were informed that they were renovating which was fairly obvious, and the clerk that checked us in was very courteous. As we took our bags on the elevator to go to our room, we noticed that some of the lights weren't working, and then the elevato... Read more
