I love the Governor. The staff are so welcoming that it feels like I have just come home. The beds are great. I always get a great nights sleep at the Governor. It is a very convenient location for me and I will always stay at the Governor.

Walking distance to many restaraunts including to some located down on the water. Lovely walking trail down along the water is just a few blocks from hotel as well!

The locale of the Governor Hotel in Olympia, WA was ideal regarding accessibility to sites, shops, restaurants and the Farmers Market. It was comfortable, clean and the staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included.

Nice hotel, great rooms. Front desk staff not always very helpful. Varied by individual. Food was excellent and far exceeded a typical hotel continental breakfast. You do need to be patient for an elevator. Hard to find the stairs except on the first floor. Lots of parking available.

One of the worst hotel experiences. Had to be buzzed into hotel from garage, where person curtly asked for my name and room number. I had to explain I did not have a room number as I was checking in. Entered elevator full of group of very drunk young people. When I checked in I mentioned this and was told that there was nothing to be done if persons were simply riding in elevator. Room was smelly and dirty. Television and refrigerator did not work. I called front desk again to indicate pe... Read more

Loud through the night. People were in and out of the rooms all night long. From the pictures it looks like a really nice hotel. It clearly has been renovated. The beds and linens were clean and comfortable and if you are a person that likes a sound sleep I'm not sure I would recommend it for you.

I was worried about the location after driving through Olympia last year but it turned out to be just perfect. We were the only baseball team there. The tea in the lobby was awesome, so no need to go to Starbucks and spend money. Getting there at midnight, and waking up at 6am, I decided to go for a walk, turns out we were 2 blocks from the path around this little lake in front of the Capital building. It was just gorgeous. I would use this hotel again for sure.

We stayed here one night and we are glad it was just one night. We had booked a suite but the extra space was empty except for a desk and chair. The thermostat did not appear to work because we kept trying to turn the air on so we could sleep but it got warmer instead. At around dawn we opened the sliding glass door to get a cool morning breeze but the birds were chirping too loudly. We turned up our white noise machine to drown out the noise of the birds but then we overslept our alarm because ... Read more

If you like old hotels, this place is for you. If you like working A/C, working elevators, drains that drain, or anything associated with a good hotel stay. Then please find another hotel. Staff are friendly, beds are comfy. Owners have given up spending money on this hotel. One elevator for 8 floors, ONE. Since January. Seriously panelhandlers stand at the hotel door, might even see them in line for breakfast in the morning.

We needed a place to sleep on the way from a late arrival at Seatac airport to Oregon. Olympia seemed a reasonable stop, and we slept pretty well here. I found my bed comfortable, although my father would have preferred a firmer mattress. Point is, we all slept undisturbed from the free parking and cheerful check-in to getting cleaned up for the included breakfast. The breakfast buffet was at the better end of mid-range hotels: scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, make your own waffles, yogur... Read more

This hotel looks good on the outside and in the lobby - beyond that, buyer beware. Carpets and rooms are shabby, sheets are scratchy, pillows are only the foam-filled type that make your neck be at a 70-degree angle. In my room, the lamps were tipping over, the curtains didn't open and close easily, the toilet broke. The lights from the parking deck are so bright, you can't leave the curtains open to enjoy the evening/night view if you want to sleep. While I was there (2 nights), one of two ... Read more

Excellent location in Olympia. Nice staff. Comfortable bed.. The only think I would change is the paper plates and plastic forks at the free breakfast buffet. I always recommend this stately hotel for the Olympia WA experience. The elevator was slow but it suits the charm of the building. Give yourself time to get up and down. Try turning off the cell phone and enjoy staying in a historical building in Olympia.

This room cost me $149 plus taxes and fees. It was worth maybe $79. The principal problem is that the hotel is a bit old and weary. The elevators are very slow. The breakfast was horrible. Were those powdered eggs? Paper plates and plastic. No good eating spot close by and what there was was closed by 7 PM. The front desk seemed more interested in stating the rules than helping either myself or the folks on several phone calls while I was checking in. Olympia has better choices.

The place has a great location, which is the main selling point. It's an easy wall to just about everything in Olympia worth going to. It's recent renovation was a complete redecoration and it looks great, but underneath the cosmetics, it's showing its age. One of the elevators has been out of commission for weeks, the AC is iffy. In my room the shower faucet was dripping and the toilet keeps running.

Air conditioning does not keep up with the demands, stale smoke odor and only one elevator working. The room was comfortable except for the stale smoke odor and poor air conditioning. I would stay here again but I think the rooms might be a little overpriced for the hotel.

The hotel is in need of a face lift for sure. My room was quiet and had a very comfortable bed. The view included nice park full of homeless people. I went for a walk but found myself on guard as all the homeless were walking around yelling and fighting with each other. Great location to the waterfront. My shower was not working right and would go from scalding hot to freezing cold. I ended up having to wash my hair in the sink. I would have scored the hotel much higher if the shower had worked.

Staying in Olympia for one night. Staff friendly. Hotel clearly remodeled recently. Rooms very clean. Others note AC problems. West side has notice to keep blackout drapes closed in afternoon. We had no problems and as it is central AC and not individual units it was quiet. Some sounds from hall and other rooms but nothing worse than most hotels. Elevators were quirky (skipped floors that were pushed for no apparent reason) but functional. Neighborhood felt safer than centers of many other citi... Read more

Loved the bed and the views we had of the water/Capitol building were sweet but the showers are possessed and alter from scalding hot to cold every few seconds. The elevators are also old and skip floors so suggest using the stairs as much as possible. Good location right in downtown and having covered parking was nice with the rainy weather. Staff was also helpful but the breakfast provided was mediocre and not replenished very often.

Excellent service, convenient location, and good room rate offset extremely soft beds and evening noise from the neighboring park. The front desk staff was extremely helpful in handling our group's accommodations and providing appropriate recommendations for dinner and shopping. The primary detractor were the beds, which we way too soft. We had two rooms and the one across from the park encountered some nighttime noise from the park across the street.

We only stayed in the Governor to break up our trip, our final destination was on the Canadian border. We were lucky because Olympia is a cool place to hang out and we would have missed it driving through. It has a fun downtown, and the Governor is right downtown, a wonderful harbor, within walking distance. The rooms have been remodeled, and everything in the State is expensive due to taxes...so while it was no bargain, it was clean, and well located . We would go back in an instant!

I'm a business traveler and, for better or worse, stay in all classes and types of hotels from budget to five star hotels. I was in town for a meeting and wanted to stay downtown because I'd heard there were lots of shops, restaurants, and bars. There is only one other hotel downtown, a DoubleTree, and it was over $100 more so it was pretty much a no-brainer. As I mentioned in the review, the place seems to have a bit of an identity crisis. The Governor Hotel offered our family a convenient, clean room with very nice beds. The staff was great - helpful by phone and in person. The hotel is showing its age, though - our shower leaked, the bathroom fan didn't work, a nearby neighbor's toilet failed. And the neighborhood, across from a public park, is a bit dicey and the traffic side of the facility was quite loud. Our family liked the hotel overall, and we would stay there again despite the age problems.

Staff is extremely helpful and polite. Booked a room for two nights and we just loved it. Great breakfast too. The only downside to this place is the heart breaking homeless that sleep in the park. Not dangerous just sad situations. Next time we stay I'm not eating my breakfast, I'm going to take it and give it to someone who is hungry.
