We had a number of issues with our room from cleanliness to broken things, but the staff was always prompt, pleasant, and willing to correct issues. As a retired hotel manager I can say that what they need is training, training, training. Housekeepers need to 1. learn to clean, 2. Need incentives to report maintenance issues to their supervisor, and 3. Develop a culture of pride in their rooms. Otherwise they're making the most of an old building.

We attended a New Years Eve wedding with most of the guests and wedding party staying here. The rooms are a little outdated, but clean and comfortable. Housekeeping was slow with rooms cleaned and made up late in the afternoon. Pool, hot tub and sauna were nice. We enjoyed three meals in the dining room. One dinner and two breakfasts. The staff kept the kitchen open a little late for us the night we arrived and the meal was good. Breakfast service was slow - it appeared understaffed. I se... Read more

Although I was concerned about the reviews I had read, and some of my guests had concerns, we were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We had a block of approximately 30 rooms for our son' New Years Eve wedding and our guests all said their rooms were nice. Yes, it's an older hotel. But well kept and clean. The staff went above and beyond to be helpful. Cheryl Wolfe was most helpful and made sure we were comfortable in our recently renovated rooms during our stay. Would most definitely recom... We had lunch on a December day. Our food was excellent. The view was even better. The dining room has a close and direct view of the beach, waves, and ships going in and out of Norfolk. This was our first meal at the hotel; we will certainly go back.

I noticed that a lot of the reviews were very negative. While I would agree that the hotel is not furnished with "state-of-the-art" furnishings; it had everything I needed and it was very clean! I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights and ABSOLUTELY fell in love with all the staff; especially Alexandra! What a sweetheart!! Everyone was extremely helpful and always greeted me with a smile and ready to help with my special requests. I took advantage of the heated pool as well as the hot tub daily. ... Read more

I did notice some reviews were not favorable but I was well taken care of at check-in, and found the room to be very clean and larger than I had expected. The beds were pristine, as was the bathroom and living room area. I even walked barefoot on the rug and floor which is something I rarely do- but everything looked clean and comfortable. I had a partial view of the bay and was happy I caught a glimpse of dolphins! Yes there was also a view of the dumpster below, but obviously Hotel is upgradi... Read more

I was here for a class for work. The hotel is right on the highway, so very visible and it is on the ocean, away from the strip of actual va beach, so very quiet. But the hotel needs REMODELING. It is very outdated and dingy. Staff was nice but the hotel needs update. Our room we had to walk across the parking lot to get to it and go into an elevator that looked like it would break down any minute. When we got to our floor the hall carpet was very stained. Walking into our room there was a... Read more

The room was filthy. The carpets were stained, couch was broken and dirty and the shower was complete unsanitary. Maid came in to clean the room and made one out of two beds...bizarre. the beds looked my 10 year oldone son made them.

This hotel is just ridiculous. The check in process is pure confusion. They don't have a designated line so if I'm waiting, another person can come stand beside me and think they are going to go next. (of course I didn't allow that but if the hotel had ropes up or a designated line instead of a wide open space I wouldn't have gone through this.) When we got to our room, it was full of mattresses stood up to where we could barely get in. I went down to get a new room. they did give us a room... Read more

We booked this for our wedding weekend along with a bunch of our guests. One couple had to switch rooms due to the stench in theirs. Another couple found puke in their room and was told sorry but the staff did nothing about it. The drinks in the bar were overpriced. And then Hurricane Matthew hit and the hotel lost power. A place that big and no generator. Every one of our guests rooms leaked around the windows and door. Balcony walls fell onto the balcony. Tried discussing with management was ... Read more
