We spent the afternoon wondering this beautiful property . The house and grounds are wonderful. Such a peaceful look into southern plantation life. The hotel rooms are spacious and clasiclly decorated. We will come again.

I found the Berry Hill Inn totally by accident. My wife and I were on a long drive picking up a small puppy from breeder in Southern Va. and needed a place to crash. We used out phones and up popped the Berry Hill Resort. My wife leaned over in the car and showed me a picture on her phone and stated, it looks like the White house." and it certainly did! Even though the website said they were full I called the Berryville directly and a young man answered and informed me, "certainly they could acc... Read more

Sort of off the beaten path, but enjoy ambiance and staff are nice. Like the indoor pool. Have been several times with a Virginia non-profit conference. HOWEVER.....felt really mistreated in most recent stay. Made a reservation 30 days out to eat at the "Mansion." Upscale, limited opening restaurant in the main plantation hall. Sure looked nice when I was there before. So planned special Day After Mother's Day dinner for my wife. Were informed when we arrived on Monday afternoon (with dinne... Read more

Beautiful setting, wonderful facilities, comfy beds good food. Best place in the area for peace, quiet and a good night's sleep. We have stayed there twice in the spring and the price was very reasonable. A very nice dining room and an inviting tavern give you a choice between fine dining and casual chic.

This beautiful resort is nestled in the heart of southern Virginia, and it boasts of elegance and beauty! There is plenty of history here, and is a great place for history enthusiast to enjoy some of America's finest! The rooms are beautifully decorated, the Tavern is very nice, and the indoor pool is refreshing (not to mention the saunas!). You will have a fabulous time at the Berry Hill Resort!

Hotel was ok at best. Cleanliness was good. Rooms were hot- I had the AC on high at the coldest and it never cooled down. My colleagues complained of the same (I'm a female and I'm never hot). Our meeting room was the same. Took two days to cool down to a reasonable temperature. The staff was very nice, but service was ridiculously slow. I don't know how this place stays in business. We had 7 pm dinner reservations and didn't get to order our entrees until after 8:30. (Darby's Tavern).

Happened upon this place via hotels.com and was more than delightfully surprised at its magnitude upon driving in. The drive down the tree lined path immediately sets you back in time to a era of southern grandeur. It keeps getting better as you approach the mansion which is the restaurant. The rooms are well appointed and clean. The food was great. The "spa" however is no more than a lady who makes beauty appointments from offsite. It is not a true 'spa' and really shouldn't be billed as ... Read more

Not enough room here to really project how wonderful our stay was. Staff was simply incredible all around. Professional, helpful and kind. I originally booked this stay (2 rooms 2 nights each) through hotels.com. When I found out by asking Berry Hills front desk representative Danelle about the possibility of adding a night while we were there - she said depending on their reservations there should be no issues. She quoted the cost of a nights stay and that is when I realized Hotels.com ove... Read more

This place is certainly off the beaten path; however, whatever you have to do to get there or however far you must travel... Do it. This place is unreal: totally secluded and private and relaxing. It has amazing well-appointed rooms and every type of luxury. The staff is so terrific. Wanda Crews in the bar made sure I was taken care of for supper one night despite a late arrival. She was friendly and fun. Danni and Paris were always so sweet and Dee was a great manager. Patsy Vaughn was ... Read more

We attended a wedding at the resort. The rooms are beautiful, the food was wonderful when you finally got it. The event coordinator was a real pro, bar staff while understaffed remained smiling and pleasant the entire time. Wish I could say the same about Jonathan our very rude server in the main dining room. It's a shame that one person can ruin your entire experience. Take my advice visit the resort but steer clear of the main dining room!

While, I really wanted to love this place, (outside of its dark past of owning slaves) I was a bit disappointed. The staff was friendly and helpful, and I must say, an absolute beautiful location...but the entire time of my stay, my room was not cleaned, and I was there for three nights. My first thought was the maid didn't want to disturb me when I returned to my room. (She was cleaning the rooms across from me). Then the next day, again no cleaning, and I was out of the room all day. When I br... Read more

Food was fantastic. In fact, one of the best steaks I've had at a restaurant in a while. Room was very nice. Grounds look like they could use some work (although, to be fair, the area had not had rain in some time). Overall, a very good place, very good experience. We'll likely consider a return.

Spent one night at the Berry Hill Resort while attending a business meeting. I enjoyed my stay, but its not really a place that I would want to visit again. The resort is located outside of a very small town. While having something to do was not a problem during my visit - I would have been very bored in other circumstances. The wi-if is spotty, and if a secured connection is important to you, you will need to bring your own. My AT&T cell phone did not have coverage while there. My room wa... Read more

I recently visited for a wedding. The property was stunning and the staff were incredibly friendly. The rooms were very clean and properly adorned. Great for family and couples alike. I only had two minor gripes. The gym was laughably bad, don't bother, the machines are ancient and half are broken, so that just leaves free weights (the pool is great though!!). The tavern food was very good and the beer selection was decent, while food comes out quick when it got busy the waitstaff, while incredi... Read more

I was with a group of 20 for a too short visit, arriving late and leaving relatively early the next morning. The rooms are attractive and comfortable, the large, well-lit bathroom made cozier by an overhead heat lamp. the balcony, brightened by a planter of annuals, is relaxing for wine in the afternoon or coffee in the morning. the starbucks coffee in room was delicious. the mansion house is absolutely beautiful inside and out and beautifully kept. the orangery for breakfast was bright and... The staff at this resort are great! They are friendly and always ready to help with any request you have. The rooms are clean and ours had a patio so we could just walk across the grass to the indoor pool. The pool is fantastic. My family and I went for a short break (2 days) but plan on returning in the spring for a longer stay.

I visited Berry Hill for a "girls weekend' it was wonderful. The spa and staff are amazing. The dinning room was closed due to a wedding but the staff made travel arrangements for us to go to Molasses Grill in nearby Halifax, which was a wonderful choice. We have decided to make this our annual retreat.

Although I live only about four hours away I had never really seen "the South". I wanted to experience the history and the scenery and this place certainly delivered. I read that it was one of the largest plantations in the United States with one of the biggest populations of slaves. The main house which only has a small number of guest rooms is very well preserved with this very interesting floating staircase. When I visited it was eerily quiet but very peaceful when I visited it was eerily q... Read more

There's the mansion house from the 1830's. It's very grand, beautifully and sensitively restored. There's the history of the Bruce family, an interesting and sometimes quirky bunch (the lady of the house directed that false interior doors be installed so that the rooms would have absolute symmetry). There are a few guest rooms in the mansion or its original detached offices which I am assured are seriously haunted. But we stayed in the more modern hotel wing, which was carefully and artfully... I was visiting the area overnight and found this jem! The room was wonderful as it was comfortable and met my needs very well. The delicious steak dinner I ordered for room service was wonderful in flavor and portion. My only wish is that I could have stayed longer to enjoy the breakfast and then to have time to savor the beautiful grounds with a hike or tour of the mansion. I highly recommend this location and hope to return again with my husband and enjoy it even more.

I wanted celebrate my anniversary and wanted somewhere close by from lynchburg, looking at reviews I chose this resort and booked the Romance package as it offered some fruits, wine, cheese and three course dinner as part of the deal. This is a very historic location that is interesting. A great alternative to the normal hotel experience. I enjoyed having a nice place to walk. There are two restaurants on site, but the Mansion restaurant has limited hours. Darby's Tavern was very good, and was nice to not have to get in the car to go eat. is on a 200 year old plantation. The free breakfast is average with not a lot of choices, but still enough unless you were staying a long time. Was very quiet being away from car/traf... Read more

We arrived around 5:00 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving day along with many other families checking in at the same time. Check in was quick and our room was ready. We booked a Queen room with balcony. Our room was quaintly decorated with period furniture, a queen bed with full canopy and a spacious bathroom. While the furnishings were quaint, they were also clean and the room has been well maintained. The balcony faced a terraced landscape with many deciduous trees; a perfect location durin... Read more
