Decent place to stay. The grounds and main lobby are pretty but the rooms were not anything special. The inn was beautifully decorated for the holidays. They are very pet friendly and had a great dog park.

I was booked for a "Jr suite" which I discovered means there is a sleeper sofa in the room. NOT a suite in my book. The room was clean and staff was friendly with the exception of room service. I called to ask what exactly was included in the continental breakfast because there was a very general description on a card in my room. The girl on the phone told me "it's on the card." After getting a still vague answer, I asked to place an order for the next morning and she refused stating, "just fill... Read more

We went to the New Years Eve Gala which included an over night room. Our total bill we thought was $379 but was surprised when they added $50.00 service charge. The tax was $49.00 which made our total bill $478.00. Yes, expensive night BUT to our liking this included our nice size room with king size bed, wonderful buffet dinner with all the delicious chief food you can imagine, beautiful decorated ball room with live band playing til 1:30, free photos of yourself by professional photographers... Great place to spend New Years Eve. They have a wonderful room that is decorated to the tee with a theme. This year it was the Great Gasby. Beautifully done. The scheduling staff did not do a great job on keeping our group of 10 together. We have done this for 4 years and every year for $500.00 for the night we get there and have to straighten out the table setting and breakfast schedules. They did not put all five couple in the main hotel when I know they could have after taking to people... Read more

Went to The Founders Inn with friends for their annual New Years Eve Gala. This is the third year that we have attended and we were not disappointed. First off, this is a beautiful place. The rooms are in other buildings than the lobby, but everything is under cover so this is not a problem.(even if the weather is bad.) We always get a standard room. After all, we spend very little time in the room. The rooms aren't large, but certainly big enough and well appointed. There are larger rooms that ... Read more

The Founders Inn was a Christmas spectacular!! Beautifully decorated in every nook and cranny. My family and I visited a couple of days before Christmas and were awestruck by the festivity. We ate at the hotel restaurant the last day and were super impressed with our server but as far as the other hotel employees went they left a bit to be desired... We encountered dozens in passing and much to our dismay rarely received an acknowledgement. Being in customer service my entire life it saddened me... Read more

Let's start with the positive. The room was clean and neat. The bed was comfortable and everything worked satisfactorily. The staff was friendly and mostly responsive. The negatives are going to sound picky, but to us it's what separates a good hotel from a great one. Day one, the in-room coffee maker only had setups for two cups of coffee; one regular and one decaf. I ended up getting coffee from the restaurant and was charged for them. Somewhat understandable. Day two, I find that there... Read more

This used to be a top hotel but is now showing signs of aging. The furniture is dated and needs to be replaced especially in the hotel rooms. The common areas are also showing its age along with the restaurants and conference areas. The "coffee" express is mediocre and I found it worth the five minute drive to Starbucks for much better coffee. I'm appalled that they still use styrofoam cups for the to go cups. The staff was friendly and helpful. The main draw of the hotel is its location which i... Read more

I was in town for a family emergency. I got a room at the last minute. They have a great military discount and the rooms were gorgeous. Everything is very colonial but it fits witth the formal gardens in the courtyard and the old Virginia theme. If you can just go with it, you get a 4 star hotel at a 2 star price. There is a spa and an amazing breakfast buffet. My breakfast was included with my room rate. I would definitely come back here if I am back in Virginia Beach and not staying Ocea... Read more

I surprised my husband with a short getaway to this hotel. We loved it. The grounds and rooms are so beautiful and well maintained. I love that you get that B&B vibe in the rooms. We also visited the Flowering Almond Spa. Such a great experience. A true spa experience with robes and a conversatory and light snacks. The location of the hotel is great. So close to so many other things. You have to splurge and get reservations at Swan Terrace. Yummy food. I love that there's something so nice right... Read more
