Excellent reservation scheduling staff Hotel clean and well cared for yet shows some age of the building. We had a room with 2 beds. Surprised to find the 2 Full Beds and not queens. We had 4 adults in the room. The smaller beds made the room look larger (probably the strategy). The beds were comfortable. Staff were all friendly. Thank you Dean (repair man), who was next door working, came over to fix a towel rod that accidentally came off the wall. He was friendly, attentive and had a grea... Read more

I remember stay here when it was a Hilton. It was downgraded to a Double Tree and not much has changed. The lobby is smaller, definitely not a place to hang-out with colleagues. The staff is friendly. There always seem to be plenty of parking when I have been there. I'm sure I'll be back again but I won't go out of my way for it. Hilton Surfer

Stay at this hotel all the time on TDY trips, I do have a choice of hotels near the airport, this is a full service hotel, including a pool... Great restaurant and bar, great happy hour lots of different food and the menu always changes...

I come to the Norfolk hotel often for work and have had a fine experience all of the other times. This time was different. The hotel smelled when I got there and the lobby and surrounding area was extremely loud. Then I got to my room for the night and around 3am the fire alarm went off, waking me up. The next morning I go to watch the morning news and nothing...the TV doesn't work in my room. Sad to say I will have to pick another hotel next time I travel there.

Stayed at this hotel for the first time since the lobby and adjacent areas were renovated (2 years?). Incredibly nice people at check in and throughout the hotel (and at the restaurant too). Downside is condition of the place, stayed there 6/8/16. One elevator (of two) operating and that one didn't have a functional "down" button, so you got nice long multi-directional elevator rides. Pool was closed (on a beautiful June day) and chained with a sign that said "pool closed for winter". Lot of l... Read more

I have stayed at this hotel 3 times in 8 weeks. Each time there were varying little annoying issues. First- the good. The beds are comfortable and easy to get a good night rest. The decor is tasteful. Now for The bad- every time there is something broken ranging from only one elevator in service, having to ride the elevator all the way up to go down, broken hair dryer, poor and expensive food and a workout facility that is next to the pool with poor ventilation, high humidity, no fan. Plus the... Read more

Really liked this hotel (except the Housekeeping Department). The Front Desk was terrific and very knowledgeable. Shuttle van was reliable and nice drivers. The employees at the restaurant (Max&Erma's) remembered I love Earl Grey tea for breakfast. The bartender's were also personable and fun to talk to. Mike (I think is the F&B) mgr.was very nice, too! Kudos to all of them. I was at this hotel for three weeks for a new job training. The problem with Housekeeping was I almost always had to ask f... Read more

Nothing worse than being in a room with a stinky bathroom with no ventilation. This hotel had a good one which allowed the family to remain in the room comfortably while the powder room was in use. Enjoyed the front desk cookie hospitality cookie. That really was a bonus for us. Just the small things matter sometimes. The price was a bit steep.

I recently stayed here one night for a business trip. Although convenient area for business purposes, this property is not in the nicest area of Norfolk. The restaurant quality is good. Fitness gym equipment is up to date and room was clean, but, overall, the property is a bit weathered.

Not a bad place for short visit. Hotel staff great. Rooms need a little love. Restaurant not so much. Food was not great. Restaurant layout a bit cluttered and sloppy. Room service menu outdated. One elevator has been out of service for over 6 months.

Was not given my king suite as planned. They were definitely going to make me walk out of the hotel without a room but I refused to leave until they gave me a room which magically appeared after they had told me they were fully booked. Was told the reason why I didn't get a room was because booking through 3rd party websites like Expedia and whatnot don't guarantee a room because it's not directly with the hotel. Sooo it's my fault, the customer, for using my resources to find an "affordable" ye... Read more

I will start out by saying that the staff at this hotel is very friendly, however I don't think that the ownership provides them with the quality of hotel they deserve to do their job. The rooms while clean, have a musty odor. I was in a room that had a very strong odor but was moved to a room that was much better, however the toilet ran constantly in the new room and despite reporting it the issue was not corrected. This hotel was nice enough. Just not fancy at all. The front desk clerks were pleasant, the lobby was clean and the room was ok. I will say my bed was comfortable. My only real negative thing that I experienced was that the housekeeping department does not understand the "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door. I had it out both mornings I was there. And both mornings there was a knock at the door. I had to jump up, get dressed, and tell them that I didn't wish to be disturbed as per the sign.

The room smelled of mold, smoke, and strong cleansing product . There were small black spots all over the sheets. Some were permanent and some brushed away . It was late when I arrived so I just made it thru one night and moved the rest of my week long stay to another hotel . No recompense was offered at check out and I was told that it was too bad that was my experience.

The hotel is pretty good with local transportation right outside the hotel. The staff at the reception are very friendly and they give a free cookie at check-in. The meals at the restaurant are very nice though there's limited variety but you could order in free delivery from nearby places. They also offer free shuttle to the botanical gardens and pick up can be arranged. The bathrooms could use some update with regards to the bathtub and wash basin.

If you are traveling on a flight out of the airport this is a great location. This used to be a Hilton Hotel. When it was changed to a DoubleTree I was a little concerned as I have had issues at other DoubleTree hotels under the Hilton umbrella but this was a vast improvement over what used to be the Hilton, with whom I also encountered problems with. I felt the prior Hilton had issues with customer service and staffing. It seemed there was never anyone available for the front desk. This last vi... Read more

Quiet rooms. I mean quiet. Despite the noise you'll hear coming form the onsite Max and Ermas the rooms are quiet. Even with a team there I didn't hear anything. Good sized room, well kept fixtures. Moderate selection of channels for TV junkies, smallish bathrooms (the door nearly swipes the toilet), not a bad place to spend a night or two in the area.
