The first thing that hits you when you enter the lobby is the musty smell that permeates the entire hotel. We stayed on the first floor near the indoor pool, and the smell of chlorine was overwhelming. Our neighbors in the room next door partied until after midnight, and it took three calls to the front desk for a security guard to finally speak to them. My estimate is this hotel is on the brink of going out of business; the amount of deferred maintenance (broken elevator, running toilet, leaky ... Read more

If you like to feel like you're about to get murdered, you'll love the Magnuson Hotel in Newport News VA. Pulling up out front, it appears to be totally abandoned. The lobby is exceptionally large, has an echo, and, the check-in desk is on the opposite side of the foyer. The lobby furniture and carpet appear to have been salvaged from the Titanic, old, dirty and ripped. Walking through the lobby gave me the feeling like I was in the movie, "The Shining". One elevator was broken down. The other w... Read more

The Hotel reeked of old basement smell which means mold or mildew. It was kinda of outdated. Upon Standing Around The Front Desk I Guess Anybody Can Get A to Any room without showing i.d. friends of outs show a roach in their shower. However I found out we were actually on a floor that had some remodeling. This could have great potential because they are suppose to shut down and remodel the hotel. Hopefully they gut it and rebuild it.

This used to be an Omni Hotel and was very modern, clean, and cared-for. Under new management, windows were filthy, the room was dirty, towels old and when we went to get in the bed, we found some old toilet paper in it. Needless to say my wife and i slept on the couch. I wouldnt stay here again if they paid me!!! What a shame what this hotel has turned into...

The hotel is old and suppose to be remolded soon. It was cheap but decent. No restaurant, the furniture is old and torn. the gym was nice and the pool was very cold. the bathrooms were nice and the beds were ok. Drapes were too small for the windows and didn't keep all the light out. the noise level was great. All depends on what you are looking for. It did the job.

Price was very reasonable for a weekend stay. Had a pleasant stay, very accommodating for me and family. The lil ones especially enjoyed the pool while me and misses enjoyed the hot tub. Would refer this place to family and friends.

The hotel was supposed to have 3.5 stars. I am not sure how it got such a high rating. It needs many repairs and a staff that cares. Only stayed one night when we had it booked for a week. Broken or missing items: elevator, hot tub, luggage cart, restaurant etc. Our room was some what clean but whisker hairs in the sink the cigarette burns in the carpet and rusts stains on the shower head did nothing to make me feel welcome. The wallpaper was repaired with a staple gun. The mattress was sagging ... Read more

The Omni ran a tight ship! This is run down, broken down, torn furniture, I don't know where to begin other than we left after one night a relocated... Can't recommend until they fix everything including attitudes at the front desk. So disappointing...

My room key was given out, without me authorizing. Imagine waking up and seeing an uninvited guest. This person was not ID. What if this person was a killer? A rapist? A terrorist? The magnuson hotel failed to use proper procedures! I have contacted the hotel management and she was so unapologetic, and the issue was not resolved. "Ma'am, we use proper procedures" Well if that was the case, WHY was this person in my hotel room?! However, I contacted their corporate and at least I got an apology.

Every square inch of this place needs repairs. Carpet throughout entire hotel should be replaced, furniture is old. Room smelled of cigarettes. Restaurant closed, although you would never want to eat in a place like this. Hotel just looks like no one takes care of it. Front desk staff were indifferent.

This used to be an Omni hotel. Now it is run down & tired. In need of major renovation. The bed was comfy and pillows were great... That was a nice surprise. Stayed here during visit to CNU because it is so close. Consider other local options like chain hotels.

This place is not what they advertise. The pictures that they show online do not live up to the hype of the room. The room was dirty. The bed was filthy. The carpet smell really horrible. Hotel staff was polite. But just not a place to stay if you looking for a comfortable place to stay. Roaches in the room and the walls are cracked. People are hanging outside the hotel just playing loud music from the cars.

I've stayed here for 3 years in a row. I'm not sure what happened this time but this will sure be my last. When we arrived on Friday there was hair all over the bed, which allowed me to know that the sheets were not clean. The toilet bowl seat was in an upright position which has piss all over the rim of the toilet bowl. The front desk was more than helpful by changing the rooms. The next day speaking to the hotel manager he could basically care less with what I had to say. On our second n... Read more

This hotel was probably amazing back in the day like the 1980s but now not so much. Unprofessional front desk agents/management, the manager can leave a wedding in the hotel to tend to rowdy loud teenagers at the pool but can't speak with guests face to face regarding room complaints such as cold water for showers or even money stolen out of a wallet that was accidentally left in the hotel's "gym" Some equipment in the gym is broken, the hot tub at the pool was broken , the water in the pool tas... Furniture was broken (night stand legs), room had a dirty feel, damp, stale smell. Woke up following morning to find my clothes damp. I will not stay here again. Looks nothing like pictures online. Very deceiving

First of all its best to call first to see whats in service. Thru all the websites i searched, none mentioned the in-house restaurant was not open, no breakfast, hot tub not working, elevators not working in a 8 floor hotel. Hallways smelled of marijuana. Housekeeping staff were rude and very unprofessional. And there's a club attached to the hotek as well. Definitely my last stay here.

Elevator was not working, we took the stairs and my daughter stepped in urine. The pool water was dirty and the hot tub had no water in it. There was a large Roach in the room, The air condition was not working. They wanted to switch my room..NO THANK YOU. I checked out.

Slept good. Felt safe. Clean room. Seems like a lot of remodeling going on which was good as there are places in hotel that look old and outdated, especially outside. Front desk courteous and helpful. I would stay again.

I had problems with my a/c unit and the gentleman came right up to adjust it; then it went back to being hot later on that night. I reported to the front desk; however, they didn't have any rooms to switch me to by then. Also, there was a shooting in the hotel while we were there. It was several young men and girls walking around on different floors and you could tell they didn't belong; because, you kept seeing them on multiple floors. Security was very nice and handled the incident as best the... Read more
