In town for a visit to CNU. Checked in and the woman working the counter was a student there and raved about how good the school was. Check in was fast and friendly. Noticed that the hotel is being remodeled and updated. Some construction equipment was parked nearby. Room was clean and bed was comfortable, Close to I-64 but didn't hear any traffic noise Breakfast included a nice selection. Only was there for about 10 hrs so I didn't use any amenities, just needed a bed and shower. I will stay ag... Read more

Friendly, helpful desk staff on arrival. Room was clean and comfortable, and we love the generous counter top space in the bathroom. Breakfast and wifi included. Great location, convenient to Williamsburg, Yorktown, Newport News/Hampton, and Norfolk/VA Beach. Our experience has been that Holiday Inn Express is the best value for its price/luxury level.

Note that his hotel is under renovation and has converted from a HI to a HIE. The construction and change shouldn??t dissuade you from staying here. The staff is still outstanding. The GM David continues to be engaging and accommodating and he leads his team in providing a great customer experience. The property will only improve as the renovations continue and I understand the 4th and 5th floors are nearing completion. Noteworthy, is while the HIE Breakfast is in a temporary location they... I needed to be in Newport News for a weekend wedding. I also wanted to use up a few of my IHG reward points. This location met my needs of a comfortable bed and being centrally located. They are finishing up a Renovation project. Other than making parking a little tight did not affect my trip.

Stayed here because of a good deal on Hotwire. The property is well maintained and the staff is helpful. There is an indoor pool which can be a bit noisy when kids take over. The breakfast is a good help-yourself set up.

I have stayed in this hotel off and on over 15 years. The hotel has always struggled for as long as I can remember - from an operational standpoint. In March, I had to try three rooms before landing on one with terrible smells of smoking or Chinese food. Little apology, no offer of anything special for my efforts late at night when tired. I tried one more time. The hotel is under construction and this is never revealed. A look outside my room produced garbage bins and storage vessels. The furn... Read more

I came here to go to Busch gardens and water country Memorial Day weekend. It just so happened to be the food and wine festival too, so staying in Williamsburg was way too high. This hotel was close enough to the parks (about 15 mins away) that I didn't mind staying in Newport News. The hotel was recently renovated (floors 5 and 6) so the room was nice and clean. The only issue I had was on Monday. My daughter and I came downstairs for breakfast at 9:30am, the tv (channel 1) advertised breakfast... Read more

Newport News is home to me being born and raised here and when I come back to visit this is my go to spot! The staff is wonderful, they have a snack area I can grab something quick, the pool is perfect and the rooms are modern and clean. Its literally right off the interstate but still very quiet and anything you need is within a mile. To top it all off it is a reasonable rate.

We came in for a quick one night stay & it was great. Also the price here was better than most I had seen while looking on the internet. The front desk person was super nice & helpful. The breakfast in the morning was decent also. Most important for me was that the bed was comfortable & even though the motel sits right off the interstate it was very quiet.

Stayed for 4 days and hotel was very pleasant. Rooms were very comfortable, breakfast in the morning was a nice touch and staff was exceptional. Price for rooms were reasonable. Rooms did not have frig or microwave so plan accordingly. Easy access to key activities such as Yorktown, Jamestown or Virginia Beach. Very close to Newport News airport.

Wow we had the best room in the house. We booked a suite and what a surprise! Very large rooms. The living area had a full kitchen, dining table, several chairs, couch and work desk. The bedroom was very large with a awesome bathroom. We were pleasantly surprised. The only problem we had was the internet was terrible. We were trying to search places and watch YouTube and could not load those programs. With all of the products that use the internet the hotel should upgrade this option. The food c... Read more

We stayed here the weekend of July 15-17. The hotel location is excellent. There is quick access to I-64 and the entire peninsula. There were plenty of restaurants nearby or within 10-15 minutes, so that was great. The hotel staff was friendly and courteous. I would give it more stars, but we had a couple issues that prevent me. First, the Wi-Fi connection and signal is the WORST I have ever experienced in a hotel. You had to stand in a certain soot in our room to maintain connection. Se... Read more

For us there is no other hotel in town. The team remembers us and is always happy to greet us. The renovations continue to progress extremely well and even though we were there in mid-June we already see improvements to the new rooms. The room blackening shades are great for sleep. The staff were absolutely delightful and helpful but the hotel suffers from being average at best. The pool was cold, there was no Jacuzzi. The breakfast was average and not organized in a way to serve the number of people waiting to eat. The freezer in the room needed defrosting. The wifi stunk and I kept having to reconnect.

The breakfast was great and the gentleman kept up with keeping the area clean and stocked with food! The pool was a little small, but it was refreshing! It started off with a slight hiccup but was great after that. My wife and I were too early to check in, so we left our information at the front desk. When we came back later in the evening we were checked in quickly. We went to our room and found it had not been cleaned yet from the prior occupants. Stopping back at the desk, we were given a new room. The new room was great. spotless and big. Typical Holiday Inn Express. The bed was a little saggy. The hotel was mostly clean, the floor was a bit sticky. The breakfast was okay. We had reserved a suite but a guest in floor above overflowed the bathtub and so our suite flooded and we were given a regular room. We were also offered a King Suite but needed two beds.

We just stayed here to visit family for the weekend. The room was updated, modern, and spacious. We typically book a room in Newport News based on who is having the best deal at the time. From now on, I will always check this hotel first. The staff was also friendly and professional. Professional staff is always a crap-shoot in this area. (I used to live here so, I can get away with saying that.) :) The staff here did a good job.

Very friendly and helpful staff and a comfortable stay but the room configuration was weird. Very low ceiling and small size made it feel like a Microtel not to mention the strange furnishings. Comfortable for 1 but anymore and the room would get crowded fast. If hi is trying for a techie look, it's not working. See photos

Stopped on my way down to Outer banks. The hotel is in the middle of remodeling. 1st, 4th and 5th floors are complete with updated paint, new furniture and beds. Tub was the same and there was little "prep" work done on walls before paint but overall it was good. Breakfast area was in the process of being redone as well but they had the standard breakfast food for a quick meal. Pool is pretty small but worked for an 8 and 12 year old. I stayed for 3 days at Holiday Inn Express & Suites Newport News and I really enjoyed everything about the hotel. Staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was nice. Nice facility, friendly staff, better-than-adequate breakfast buffet, comfortable king bed, and a location convenient to the Mariners Museum. Would stay there again. One major complaint - half of the street lights illuminating the parking lot surrounding this Holiday Inn were not working; they would just flash every so ofter.
