We stayed one night w/ our 2 toddlers. We didn't check in until the evening, and were extremely tired from our long drive. Thankfully check in was easy, and we found the room to be nicely decorated, and the beds to be very comfortable. Bathroom was updated and nice, but the wood blinds in bathroom were in terrible need of a clean.. if you notice the dust, its an issue. Awful experience in the Pine Room for dinner, but a woman named Sherry worked to turn things around after I called about things.... Read more

Classic, remodeled, old school hotel in the heart of the city. I have become a fan of Pure Rooms and they offer those at this hotel. The air quality and white noise created is great for sleep. Also, cheap valet parking and a nice lobby bar area. Walking distance to downtown eateries and bars.

One of the finest hotels I've ever stayed at. I felt like I was on a modern day Titanic. We are history buffs and the constant displays of interest in and around the hotel was intriguing. The accommodations lovely and comfortable. Food was delicious. Atmosphere perfect. Surrounding walking-distance attractions were even better! A must-visit!!

Beautiful historic hotel with modern amenities and 1st class service! I stay at this hotel often for business. The service from the valet to the front desk, the executive lounge host and restaurants are all first class. Everyone is so friendly! It is a historic hotel which had been upgraded over the years including a recent renovation of all guest rooms. The hotel feels 5-star at a great value price. The staff goes above & beyond to spoil their guests. The location is perfect; easy walking... Read more

This place is proud of its old charm and is very nice in that way. Keeping up appearances good but sometimes looking closely you will find some dirt in the corners. In the end we did like it all, especially after a very good dinner in the restaurant. City center close by, within walking distance. Not so good: 8 dollars to park your own car for the night.

My husband and I are Honors members, so were given a little bag containing two bottled waters upon check in, very nice touch. The hotel is gorgeous and rich in history which we both love! We stayed on the executive level. Your room key gives you access to an outer door to enter this level - which includes the lounge for a minimal continental breakfast and evening snacks. Our room was surprisingly large and clean, loved it! By the way - the young men who valet/transport your luggage are wonderfu... Read more

The Hotel Roanoke offered top-notch accommodations in an historic setting. Breakfasts were hearty and delicious. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional. The hotel is conveniently located to downtown Roanoke and various sites of interest and restaurants there. The fitness room offered the basic equipment and machines that you find in hotels these day. The pool, though small, was refreshing. at night The Pine Room proved a great venue to relax over a drink and/or a bite to eat.

We were so impressed with your staff. Everyone was so friendly and happy to be there! How impressing it is to walk into a hotel when everyone is greeting you and smiling and offering to be if assistance! The Hotel Roanoke was has a lot going for it. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, the breakfast buffet is excellent, and the hotel itself is both historic and impeccably maintained. The fitness center and pool areas are both very nice and generously-sized. The hotel is convenient to a number of local attractions. Only one issue: room service failed to show up one day to service our room. Made a quick call to the front desk for a refresh on towels and they handled it immediately. ... Read more

Only a 1 night stay but what a delightful night it was. This hotel is fabulous!! Absolutely gorgeous building with exquisite furnishings. Our room was comfortable and quiet and we had a wonderfully comfortable mattress-actually overslept by 2 hours. Breakfast was a true value, filling and delicious. Buffett was $16.10 which was complete with juice, coffee, pastries and all the usual breakfast meats, omelettes, etc. No complaints at all except we had such a short visit.

This is a old train hotel restored to its original state several years ago. Impressive entrance and located within walking distance of dozens of restaurants downtown. Rooms were clean and a good size. Very nice hotel restaurant for breakfast. I thought the price was very good and much better than a chain hotel although it is run by Hilton. A great choice if your kids like trains as the history of locomotives is all over the hotel and working trains run past the hotel and nearby rail yard. ... Read more

We had 8 adults and 3 children and it worked out well. We all walked downtown for dinner earlier in the evening and then back to the hotel to ring in the new year. We crashed here for a night on a drive to Atlanta from Connecticut. The whole experience of the hotel was amazing. Reservations were easy to make and the hotel was easy to find. The room was spotless, the pool was divine and the staff even left a cooler of water by the pool because it was over 90 degrees outside. The staff puts out snacks in the lobby in the evening and breakfast was divine! We would definitely stay here again as it was worth every penny!

My wife and I just spent a very nice weekend at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center. Hilton has done a very nice job of restoring/upgrading this historic center city hotel. The furnishing throughout, paint and detail take you back to a time when this older ornateness was probably more common. Our room was new, neat and well decorated...not so much like a Hilton/Marriott...but very nice. The staff was pleasant, professional and enjoyable to interact with. Our toddler and older child thought it was the most beautiful thing they'd ever seen. The toddler was convinced that Elsa and Anna lived there, and the older child just thought it was wonderful. The breakfast area is lovely. The pool is beautiful...definitely notice the herb garden next to the pool which is maintained by the chef. Roanoke has some awesome restaurants ... Read more

Hotel Roanoke is just an old, fun place that brings back the memories of yesterday. Rooms are clean and spacious. The easy walk via foot bridge makes downtown so accessible. Staff is helpful. The Hilton takeover is changing some elements but for the most part, it is how I remember from years past.

Public areas are grand but still retain old school charm. Loved the rocking chairs on the front porch! We had a standard queen room which was fine for 2 people. Comfy bed and roomy shower. Seemed a high price for the room size though. Hotel is close to everything downtown.

My husband and I planned a long weekend at the Hotel Roanoke, a grand Tudor-style building from the turn of the century. We expected a relaxing getaway in this town with quaint shops and varied eateries. Our room was beautifully furnished, though somewhat crowded, with a queen bed, a large and elegant wooden wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a wide armchair and a small round end table. The bathroom was recently renovated with a lovely granite-topped vanity and ceramic-tiled shower. It felt luxur... Read more

I recently drove to Roanoke from out-of-state and arrived late in the evening but had forgotten my wallet. Thus, I arrived with a confirmed reservation, but no identification (except a business card) or credit cards and only minimal cash. The check in desk personnel checked me in for the night (much thanks), but indicated that they did not have the authority to add a cash advance to my hotel charges and that I would need to speak with Accounting in the morning (understandable). The room was very nice with a comfortable bed and good amenities, including free internet, which is not common at higher-end hotels. We reserved a room on the Executive floor. When we checked in we were told that a room was not available. We were sent to another room which was supposedly better. It was mediocre at best. When we opened the four the room had a stale odor. The decor was shabby and the room looked dreary. The bathroom is small and the shower is in the tub. Not a great experience.

We visited the hotel this past week as an outing for my 86 year old mother. The staff was amazing. Everyone was cordial and accomodating. We had a tasty lunch in the Regency Room (the crab bisque was one of the best I have had) and the staff offered us the full dinner menu as room service. The hotel has maintained historic details and it's a quick walk to downtown Roanoke. Great place to see fall colors.

Really mixed opinion of the Hotel Roanoke. Once the shining star of the Star City has lost its luster for me. The front desk staff is so unfriendly even though I am a frequent guest and Hilton Honors member...valet parking is expensive, especially since it's not covered by many company expense reimbursements....hallways are long and somewhat scary (think Scream) but rooms are spacious, clean and other staff is very accommodating Can't decide if it is still the grand dame or grandma's place...
