This was my first stay at the Hilton Arlington, and I must say it fantastic. The location is convenient with the Ballston Metro adjacent next door; therefore, convenient to the attractions of the Washington DC area. From the check-in, where i had used the e-check-in and selected a corner room to my check-out, I cannot say enough about the staff who went over and above during my three night stay. While I will name specific staff members, I am sure I have not covered everyone who was there dur...
While I will name specific staff members, I am sure I have not covered everyone who was there during my stay.
Since I had arrived at the hotel at approximately 12:30pm, I was hoping I would be able to check-in and get my luggage to the room. Daisha was at the front desk when I arrived to check in. She immediately recognized my Diamond status with the HHonors program and thanked me for my loyalty. She told me my room was available and I had selected an excellent room. Every time I passed the front desk during my stay, Daisha called me by name. After a couple of days, particularly with the number of people she comes in contact with, I felt it noteworthy the recognition by name.
Diamond and Gold members in the HHonors program have access to the executive lounge, which is open for breakfast buffet and throughout the day with appetizers served from 5:30-7:30pm. There is a manager's reception on Tuesdays to recognize HHonors members, which I thought was a nice touch to show the management and staff's appreciation for their guests. Nadia works afternoons in the executive lounge, offering a personal touch to knowing each of the gusts there. She called me by name each time I was there, but I noticed it was the same for everyone there. Again, quite impressive for feeling recognized and appreciated by the staff.
Mark is the restaurant manager (Dan & Brad's) and oversees the lounge as well. Mark's personal touch came on Wednesday morning of my stay when I told him that was going to be my last day there, checking out on Thursday morning. He asked if I would be in for breakfast and I told him i had an early flight and would already be gone when they opened. He offered to have something ready for me, but I told him I appreciated it, but that was not necessary. Again, another note of over and above.
Everything with the executive lounge was excellent and from what I saw of the restaurant/lounge, Dan & Brad's, the service there was excellent with the crowd always looking happy and pleasant, a sign of a quality product and service. Anthony worked the lounge for breakfast and had a friendly greeting for all guests.
Other staff members to note for their assistance and friendly service during the stay included Mary, Susan, and Cintya. I would also like to recognize Michael who got me my zero balance receipt, offered me a bottled water for my journey ahead after checkout, and offered to get me a cab. While some of the things I have noted may seem like the kind of things that are expected of a hotel stay and the service, too many times you don't get that, and throughout my stay, I felt special with the friendly attitude of the staff and ensuring everyone's stay was excellent.
I wish I could name everyone, but that would probably take a while. I don't normally get into particulars of room and stay, but I was in room 642 from October 3, checking out on October 6th and want to be sure management can identify my housekeeper and recognize them. I say that simply because I had overlooked the refrigerator in the chest/cabinet and had even using the trash can for an ice bucket. The housekeeper for my room, first, did a great job, but when I didn't have time to refresh my ice when I went out for the day, I came back to my ice being refreshed, another example of over and above.
When I checked my bag at the airport, I realized I had left something behind. I called the hotel and told them I could have somebody pick it up for me later in the day if they could retrieve it. They called me back, and Lt Borda (I hope I got that right since it was noisy at the airport when he called) with security told me they had my item and would hold it for pick-up, another example of the over and above attitude and experience I encountered at the Hilton Arlington.
Anything the hotel may lack (which I am not able to note anything) is certainly made up by the staff and excellent, personal service. I may be the TravelGuy, but I am nobody special, but the treatment I received at the Hilton Arlington is noteworthy and made me feel, like I was somebody. I came in one afternoon and had a card and a box of candies and nuts from the hotel management. I have to say they truly appreciate their Diamond members, but once you're checked in, nobody knows your status and everybody received that same excellent treatment.
The hotel has a small fitness room with a couple treadmills, two different ellipticals, and a bike. They also have free weights, and I read in the hotel information they have an arrangement with a local gym for a nominal fee; however, I did not investigate or use that amenity. The rooms have a microwave and Michael told me at checkout they all have refrigerators too, although I missed mine. My room was on the HHonors floor, and I had two bathrobes in the room as well. Nice touch, exactly what I have come to appreciate with the Hilton brand.
The convenience to the Metro is such a plus for this hotel. If you need to go by Metro bus or the ART (Arlington Rapid Transit), their Ballston stop is right there, as well. Go out and tour and ride the Metro back to Ballston, and you're home. Since this was just my first stay st the Hilton Arlington, I don't expect it tol be my last as I will look forward to a return, encore stay. Overall, great location topped off with a friendly service oriented staff. Thanks for a great stay. Definitely a lot of over and above noted.
