90% of the summer visitors probably can lip synch every word of the Sound of Music, and the lodge plays to this obsession; but it does it exquisitely without being at all smarmy. Having been to Salzburg, Vienna and other places throughout Austria, I can vouch for the authenticity of the place. This is not a Disneyland replica of Austrian charm in an American setting, this is the real thing. The von Trapps arrived in the United States virtually penniless. They have received very little co... Read more

The staff are wonderfully friendly, the views are gorgeous, and the family fun feel is great. The rooms, however, are quite old, there is no A/C (big problem during hot/humid weather), the beds are very soft and quite uncomfortable. Despite the views and friendly staff, unfortunately I do not believe the high price justifies the resort.

You can expect amazing views when you stay at this lodge. Beautiful lodge with beautiful landscaping situated on a hill in the beautiful Green Mountains. And, yes, it feels a bit like being in Salzburg area of Austria (I grew up ~40mi away from Salzburg). However, not inside the lodge, it is more like a slightly outdated American motel from the 80s than an authentic Austrian mountain hotel in there. Anyway, one doesn't go there to stay inside and even our room had a porch with nice mountain view... Read more

So much to do! Started the morning with a hike (husband played tennis), then had a late breakfast on the porch of the deli/bakery. More hiking to nearby Brigham Falls and a visit to Stowe, then back to the deli/bakery for a VonTrapp lager. The setting is absolutely beautiful and the staff are quite helpful and friendly.

Awesome views, very family friendly, great hiking trails, the family room areas in the main lodge are unlike any resort. The rooms and the resort truly bring the feel of Austria to VT. The main dinning rooms meals are unmatched. The braised lamb was spectular. Oh and last but not least the Trapp brewery beers, wonderful.

This hotel is so great! The setting and staff make it a top notch property. Special shoutout to Veronica at the front desk for assisting with a credit card issue I was having. She was so patient and kind and it went a really long way. Also would like to shout out Brendan at the bar. He gave some great recommendations for some local watering holes in the area and he was spot on! This hotel has a great view and a hot tub with a view to die for. I will be back!!

We stayed here primarily for the property's history: my mother and I are big Sound of Music fans and wanted the full Von Trapp experience. Immediately upon arrival, you can easily see why the family settled here - the hills and vistas remind me of Austria's beauty and impressive mountain landscapes. The lodge itself is relaxing and cozy - although we enjoyed it during unseasonably warm weather - with fireplaces in common areas and gathering spaces that would be terrific for families traveling ... This was a singular place to visit. In its own right this is a lovely lodge with a splendid breakfast. If you follow or know the Von Trapp story there is plenty of new information to interest you on every wall or surface. Our rooms were very comfortable and the location is quiet and beautiful. I would certainly choose to stay here again. Our only down moment was when hoping to have dinner in the lodge somewhat late, 8:30 when the kitchen closes at 9:00. The Trapp Family Lodge at Stowe, Vermont, was chosen by us for several reasons: it was within a reasonable drive from our previous night‚??s stopover; we wanted to see more of Vermont; its Austrian mountain chalet style of architecture, and for its connection with the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. We arrived somewhat earlier than we anticipated but were still checked in with good humour. Nice , clean and help staff. It took a very long long time for the water to come out hot to take a shower. That was a lot of wasted water. I wish they had the history tour everyday. We missed the one for that day and they didn't have it the next day. I would still go again but would make sure the history tour was on the day after we arrive.

Many things you won't find at a typical hotel or Inn, such as wood turning lessons, painting, rock climbing, disc golf. We came here to ride their 2500 acres of trails which range from super easy to quite technical. Service is excellent and we look forward ra returning.

We were so excited to stay at the Trapp Family's Lodge after our years of enjoying their story from the basis of The Sound of Music and learning more about the real family. It was a beautiful little lodge that really felt like a small piece of Austria while we were in Vermont. They were kind and gave us an upgrade from a typical room to the Tirol Suite, which was so much fun to enjoy! The view off the balcony as the sunset was gorgeous! Fortunately when we arrived at the Lodge I checked whether the room had a/c - it didn't but the receptionist helpfully moved us to a room that did. The Lodge is dated but insofar as the communal areas are concerned this undoubtedly adds to its charm and any wholesale refurbishment would be counterproductive in my view. However that is not to say that the rooms could not do with updating. Our room was spacious, benefitted from a coffee machine and the beds were comfortable however it was shabby.... Read more

This hotel is original. It has solid wood furnishings, and its quaint. The room that we stayed in had a nice view. If you want a piece of Austria, then you've come to the right place. Its quiet, cozy and has chickens on site, with a small nice garden and wood chucks. My boyfriend saw one. You will see lots of wildlife. Its worth the visit, even for one night.

A sizable king room with a private balcony trimmed with flowers in window boxes overlooked the valley and next mountain range with a rather spectacular view of Vermont. The outdated sofa was the only detraction, but kept my rating from being 5 stars. The lodge is a very pleasant place with various activities scheduled every day. We spent quite awhile browsing and reading all about each one of the pictures. There is furniture there in the hotel which belonged to the family which was interesting to see also. I stayed here for two nights on a business trip. The Pros: history, scenery, grounds, sugar house tour guide, clean comfortable room. The Cons: weak restaurant, no room service, haughty fitness center staff. The fitness center is my particular gripe. Though it claims to be open 7 am to 9 pm, it actually closed at 8:45 and didn't open until 7:15 -- a problem for those of us on a schedule.
