There seems to be a wide range of reviews of this hotel. Many address the 'musty smell'. We stayed here for a week and yes, there was the smell of limestone each time we opened the door to our room but after about 10 seconds it was gone. No problem. The rooms are small but filled with traditional size/style hotel furniture. The room was generally clean, some dust in the corners and along the edges, but housekeeping took care of that as requested. The front desk staff was helpful. Typical HI expr... Read more

Was underwhelmed. We arrived later and rooms were not ready. Rooms looked decent. Beds extremely uncomfortable. Rooms have a mildewy smell. They charge 15 dollars for valet and they use a paid parking spot a block away for $6. They lost one of the guests keys when I was there and the wait was over an hour to get my own car...I had to go get it myself.

Historic building (bexar county jail) converted to HIE. Walkable distance to Mercado market and downtown / riverwalk. Neighborhood seems unsafe - so use common sense. No onsite parking - but valet parking available for $15

I hate starting off negatively but I need to do that in order to give you the best review. We stayed here due to the expedia deal we got with our flight. I have been to a lot of hotels and when we stepped into our room I could tell that this hotel was not up to the standards that Holiday Inn Express sets. The room we were given, was not just dusty but filthy! the room had not being dusted ( prolonged period of time) even the trash not being emptied ( trash in the dresser drawers and old bab... The good: The building is historic since it was originally a jail in the late 1800's. Our room had two queen beds, so it was a decent size, and it had a high ceiling. The bathroom was good sized, and everything was in fairly new shape. The breakfast was good, especially the cinnamon rolls. It's fairly quiet, so you can get some rest. The room was clean, although it did smell like cleaning chemicals each time you entered. The bad: The Wi-Fi rarely worked, and the telephone did not work. Yo... Read more

We stayed 3 nights and liked the hotel so much we booked a 4th! Roger, Tina and the rest of the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful during our visit to the city. The rooms were clean, a bit musty smelling at first but the hotel is over 200 years old! A heated pool and hot tub would be an improvement as they are outside. Yvonne and the other breakfast attendants were awesome. Quiet, off the beaten path but very close to the Riverwalk. Would definitely stay again!!

The staff were most professional, proficient, and executed an excellent job of bringing the utmost comfort to me and my husband for our honeymoon. They were friendly and eager to be of help in all things. The pool and weight room were resourceful, although small. Other than that, all of our needs for traveling were met with fast & friendly service, clean rooms, excellent breakfast service, and security. I wouldn't have chosen anywhere else! We plan on returning to the area & it's now our "go to... Read more

Nice and clean place. Nothing fancy - but at the same time it isn't ordinary. Staff crew Cory, Misty n others were cordial and helpful. Lobby is bit congested - but room isn't. Proximity to SwRI n some shopping spots is plus.

I've stayed at many Holiday Inn Express properties and hotels of different star ratings and a bed is ultimately just a bed. What makes the difference is the energy of the staff. There is a lovely lady looking after breakfast but other than her no other staff made this stay memorable. Checkin was bland and unfriendly. This included no recognition as a tiered IHG member (which is a scripted requirement). The location of the property provides easy assess to the Riverside and at a great rate.

We arrived on a Friday afternoon and stayed in room 407. Commerce Street was packed and we had to call the hotel to figure out where to park, since they only have around 70 spots "reserved" for the hotel. There are signs in the lot across the street that say the lot is strictly enforced but there were numerous cars without the hang tags that you're given when you check in. It seemed to be mostly a public parking lot despite the signs. The good news is that we found the last spot available when ... Read more
