Staff is excellent and made me and my wife feel very much at home, but in an historic hotel that speaks to the history of San Antonio. It was a wonderful trip, thanks to the Menger. We will return one day soon.

Hotel has beautiful historic charm, but it's still "historic" which means old. So, do not expect a modern look/feel to anything. The room was comfortable. We did have our smoke detector begin beeping on and off beginning at 5am. Not pleasant because it wasn't fixed until we had left that morning. The pool was okay, but very busy with young teens. They were running around the pool eating pizza and making a mess. The hot tub was lukewarm and half of the jets didn't work at all. Very disappointing ... Read more

This was a wonderful 3 night trip with friends. We had a room with 2 doubles and a balcony on the 4th floor overlooking the pool (We'd have only been happier if our room had been the exact same location on the 2nd floor, lol). Our group scheduled a pool party and The Menger was very accommodating for us. The bed was even decently comfortable and I'm picky about hotel beds. The biggest issue (and really the only reason I didn't give it 5 starts) we found was the water pressure and temperature... Read more

What a fantastic experience! My husband and I had never been to the Menger, but we decided to check it out for my birthday. We love watching paranormal shows and decided to stay at "The most haunted hotel in Texas". I read past reviews that mentioned the hotel and rooms were old, dingy, smelled, looked gross, etc. Our experience was FAR FROM THIS. We stayed in room 3052 which had a gorgeous french door access to a private balcony. The room had been newly renovated so the room and furniture loo... Read more

Our server Abraham was very polite and hospitable! He gave us a brief history of the hotel and the city! My husband and I were very impressed and based off this visit were disappointed we were not staying at the Menger! The food was great but the friendly staff made the visit so much better!!

The hotel is older with older decor and furniture but was clean and its staff was some of the friendliest and most helpful I've experienced. I should know having worked in hospitality in the past. The courtyard and pool areas to relax in were great too! We did not eat here so do not know the quality of the food.

Only giving three stars because of the perfect location. Access to everything. The rooms are VERY old and VERY VERY small. My boyfriend and I couldn't even walk past each other without bumping into each other or having to move to let the other pass. Other than the room size and extremely outdated furniture the hotel is beautiful and te location is perfect

Nice size rooms, and a great location right next to the Alamo and close to the river this was a great hotel to get you close to everything that was happening on the Riverwalk. A very pretty and historical building, it's known for being haunted so that was a neat treat. They have valet and on-site parking with in and out privileged that were reasonably priced. It only gets an average rating here because I cannot emphasize enough how thin the walls are. Being able to hear everything... and I m... Read more

We stayed one night at the Menger Hotel will attending an exhibition. As a family of 4 we were placed in the Roy Rogers Suite which had 2 beds, a couch and two small tables. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable but the beds seemed small for Queen sizes. With a 14 and 12 year old, we did not sleep comfortably. The street noise, as the room overlooks a main street was noticeable but fortunately a thunderstorm kept the Saturday night crowds to a minimum. The breakfast the next morning ... Read more

We chose the Menger. For the location. It is directly across the street from the Alamo and a short block from Riverwalk. The valet/bellman service was extraordinary and well worth the cost. The hotel does not serve a free breakfast, so if you want one you will need to go elsewhere. The rooms are updated but lack as many electrical outlets as I would have desired but we made do. The room was very clean and we were pleases with our stay.

This hotel is steeped in history, is perfectly located, and is well worth a visit. You can easily walk to many San Antonio tourist locations including the River Walk. Service upon arrival was excellent; we had some issues when we left as far as our bags not being picked up and valet being slow. Very comfortable beds, wifi worked well, lots of towels, very clean. We did not eat on property but had drinks at the bar; nothing exceptional there other than the history. The main point of interest... Read more

Steps away from the Riverwalk boat landing and restaurants, the Menger was very relaxing, quiet and had the perfect location. The pool was the stuff of old Hollywood, you could actually swim a lap in it! History throughout, especially enjoyed hotel bar where Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders. Directly across from the Alamo and the hop-on-hop-off bus tour, this was a perfect base for enjoying San Antonio, spending time on the Riverwalk and touring the Missions. Fantastic hotel!

What a neat hotel downtown next to the Alamo! Of course it's a little dated, it was built in the late 1800s, but that adds to the charm. There are a lot of neat paintings and antiques to explore throughout the hotel. The staff was among the most polite and accommodating of any hotel staff that I've encountered. They give haunted tours in the evenings and to be honest, the hotel does have a little creepiness factor to it - but that makes it fun, right?

I always enjoy staying at the Menger - the location, the history and it is gorgeous. This trip I was in San Antonio for three days with my daughter, son-in-law and three grandsons. The first morning, there was a problem with the water heater and I had to shower in cold water. While shaving, I questioned the cleaning crew as I found a hair on the wall above the toilet. Booked based on historical significance and proximity to riverwalk. Enjoyed the old world charm and we were about 50 feet from the Alamo and Alamo plaza. It is a great location. We stayed in the historic section of the hotel and it remained us of hotels we stayed at in Rome. Not real large but with a real elegance and charm about the room. We stayed for 2 nights and this hotel has great character and history. It is beautiful but it is over 150 years old so if you don't appreciate how long it has been around don't stay here. But if you can appreciate the history, the ghost stories and the gorgoeus antiques and architecture then book it now. It is right across from the Alamo and within walking distance to everything. We loved our stay here and was well worth the price, which for the history and location we thought was a steal!

The Menger stands up to it's reputation. We went in without a reservation, were greeted very warmly, and the surroundings were spectacular. Renovations were just beautiful. The room faced the garden. It was bright and very comfortable. The grounds kept very nicely. The bar was fabulous! Didn't see the ghost though. :( But we will definately return. Right by the Riverwalk and all sorts of things to do in downtown San Antonio. DO check out this gem.

This hotel was built on the 1800's but is still simply beautiful. Floors 3,4, and 5 have been updated with a "Waverley" floral look. The antiques are beautiful as well as the courtyard and swimming pool. I couldn't rate the hotel as 5 stars because there is an odor as soon as you walk in the door. The odor smells like a mix of urine and mildew and the smell is throughout the hotel probably due to its age.

A beautiful, elegant and fantastic hotel conveniently located, across the Alamo Mission. I loved the atmosphere of the building. The surrounding 20's and 30's music in the lobby was a great way to provide ambience. The floors and the display windows on the main floor leading to nearby shops were magnificent. When we checked in, they had a trainee assign us our room, so when we got to that room we had an embarrassing encounter with the guest who was already occupying the room. After going back to the front desk, they straightened it all out. The walls are thin and we had some very noisy neighbors. At first the hotel didn't seem to want to handle the problem.
