This is such an elegant, historic, beautiful hotel and everything you would expect. They are doing construction next door, but I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email from the Conciege making me aware of this. I have not heard any noise and my room overlooks the construction site. The room is beautifully appointed and equipped with a sound machine. Excellent breakfast, but do not miss the spicy brussel sprouts on the bar menu. Food is outstanding. Recent remodel since my last visit. Locat... Read more

Stayed here for two night on the 12th floor in a corner room. The room had a high ceiling, excellent bathroom and great views of the city. The bedding and bath products were top notch. Room was fully updated. Very comfortable stay. Elevators getting to the top floor were extremely quick with little wait time. The second you walk into the hotel lobby, you feel like you are in an old school 19th century hotel. Really one of the most beautiful hotel lobbies I have ever seen. The hotel certain... Read more

This hotel is very classic and historical. The room was very nice and I loved the cute bathroom. I really liked the bed sheets. The location was walkable to many restaurants and bars. Not many shops close, but if you like to walk you can get to them. There are two restaurants choices and both are good.

Unintentional crashers. First of all, the Driskill is everything that everyone else has mentioned in previous (positive) reviews: elegant, historic, and extremely well located for downtown spots and 6th street shenanigans. However . . . all of the historical beauty, etc, attracts a lot of people, so be prepared for crowds in the lobby, the bar, and other public spaces, especially during weekends. Last Saturday night, the Driskill was hosting a wedding AND a high school prom. So, you can imagin... Read more

The hotel itself is beautiful and located perfectly. I had been looking forward to staying here. Now I've been there and done that I won't need to go again. The room was nice and it was comfortable. But it was really expensive and unfortunately I got a room right next to elevators. Normally I don't care... I'm a heavy sleeper. But these elevators go constantly and felt like they were in my room. I was warned of the construction next door... didn't know that meant when I woke up that some ... Read more

Driskill Hotel sets a new standard for historic hotels. Visited this hotel for Thanksgiving 2015 and I felt like I stepped back in time. Even with the new restorations with exquisite marble floors, lofty columns, and stained-glass ceilings this hotel built in the late 1800â??s reminded me of olden days. The location in the heart of Austin's famous Sixth Street entertainment district is key. This Austin landmark stands out from its more modern surroundings with its grand late 19th-century archi... For our first trip to Austin I wanted to stay at a place that provided an experience that could take us back. I read a lot about the different hotels and this one just stood out by leaps and bounds. So I booked and I was not disappointed. The hotel just takes you back with its beautiful decor and history, everything done tastefully. In addition, it is centrally located making it an easy walk to the important spots. I loved this hotel and would be back in a heart beat. The only thing that I ... Read more

We booked the vintage junior suite with two queen beds in the historic section. We were looking forward to our stay in the historic hotel but it was a very disappointing experience. We walked in the hotel lobby and were taken aback by the damp, musty small which was not pleasant. The sitting room was very small, the sofa looked shabby and old. The carpets definitely needed to be cleaned. The bedroom was nice size and the only good thing I have to say about this room was the sheets as they looked... Read more

Oh, it's lovely! Best location, right next to the 6th street, beautiful historic building, lovely interiors, and concierge will tell you all about the best places in town. Definitely, the place to be when visiting Austin PS And I love their robes, sooo soft!

If you are looking for historic luxury, this is your place. With old world touches, yet classicly updated, this hotel offers several amenities: comfortable beds, interesting, one-of-a-kind, rustic décor, and comfort along the way. I stayed in a smaller, corner room, however, it did not all all feel cramped. The radio was playing upon arrival, which I thought was a lovely touch. The view from the room was a little less than desirable (it was of a construction site next door - and the site se... Read more

I stayed at the Driskill while attending a principals' conference at the convention center. The hotel is beautiful! I stayed in the older part of the hotel, and it was clean and well maintained. The bakery in the hotel featured delicious pastries and a variety of menu items, but it was a little pricey- $13 for eggs and bacon. I also dined at the bar and grill; loved the pulled pork tacos! Excellent and friendly service. I was disappointed that there was no pool. Hotel is located right on 6th str... Read more

Somewhere in time this was a nice hotel. It has some nice touches. Rooms are clean and well appointed. Hotel smells of mildew. Bar scene is very nice. Breakfast is pretty standard hotel fare. Great wait staff in the restaurant. Past its prime. Management needs some focus if it wants to improve.

Stayed here for a weekend visiting our daughter that lives in Austin. We have stayed previously at the Four Seasons, W and the Omni. Walked by the Driskill many times and couldn't wait to try it. If you like musty old smells, stained carpet, broken furniture, small uncomfortable beds, rooms that are smaller than a college dorm, bathrooms with no sink counter, no full length mirrors, and a gym with outdated gym equipment than this is the hotel for you - it was not for us! This was our second trip to Austin in less than 3 months. On our last visit we passed the Driskill and decided if we were to return we would eat breakfast there. As luck would have it we had a reason to be back in Austin and followed up. The breakfast was on a Sunday morning and not sure if it is a State or local law - but no alchol until after 12:00 noon... The Driskill is the grande dame of Austin hotels. The luxurious rooms are large and the bathroom is modern and wonderful. The amenities were some of the best throughout our world travels. We have had a great experience staying at the Driskill while attending wedding events. All the positive things said have been consistent with our experience and none of the negatives. The hotel itself is nice and has amazing artistry about it along with the historic stories. The bar is very nice. Beyond that. I would never pay the price tag to stay there again! The room had enough room for the bed, dresser, and a small walk path. The bathroom was small. I found the air conditioning so loud it was hard to sleep. Save your money and just walk in to take a tour! My room the following night at the Hilton was double the size, half the price, quiet, clean, and worth the stay!

When family or friends are in town, we recommend the Driskill or the Four Seasons. Each have their pros and cons. The Driskill is historic, on 6th Street, and classy (if not slightly 'stuffy'.) The valet parking is a plus (but costs $18.) The restaurants and bar are always hopping and have excellent food. Occasionally they have English high-tea, which is nothing short of a special event.

We were strolling around downtown Austin and the Driskill was on our list of historical places to visit and upon entering I can see why. By the way they have Chimay white on draft, very cool.

This is not your typical, cookie-cutter hotel that has hundreds of rooms that all look identical. If boring hotel chains with zero character pique your interest, find one of those. However, if you have higher expectations and a preference for fine food, specialty cocktails, nice linens, highly trained staff and gourmet chefs, etc. then The Driskill it is. It oozes charm, history, elegance, class and every single room is unique. Just like this hotel.
