The location was ideal for our trip: Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park & The Badlands. Check-in was a breeze. We were able to get two adjoining rooms. The staff was friendly and attentive. The pool has a water-park feature that entertained (& exhausted) the kids! The free breakfast was great: pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon were the highlights.

I stayed here for work and it was perfect. Very quite and room was clean and spacious. I love to soft/firm pillow options. Staff was very nice as I made it down to breakfast as they were about to break it down. Everything still was hot and tasted fresh. Great choice for business travelers.

Reserved a king suite and was upgraded to king Jacuzzi. Room was spacious and very clean. Front desk was a little slow and had to remind them to give me points vs welcome package. Staff was very polite and accommodating. One negative would be the wi-fi. Could only achieve a .43 mbps download speed which makes the wi-fi almost useless to use for anything. The hotel is located just off the highway which makes it very convenient. We would stay here again, but improvements in their internet would be... Read more

My biggest complaint and the reason I didn't give them a 4 is that there was no fridge or microwave in our king size room. That is one of the main reasons we stay in this chain. We are traveling and I bring food with us. It's hard to keep stuff cold in our travel cooler. Now this wasn't bad for us (kept the kid noise down) but the pool was closed. This might be important if your staying here cause of it and the big slide. I will say that the breakfast area is nice and large, they also have... Read more

I stay at Holiday Inn hotels a lot and I must say, this was by far, one of the best that I've stayed at. Room was very clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and professional. The breakfast area and quality of the hot items was the best I've experienced at ANY Holiday Inn that offers the free hot breakfast. The dinner area was also staffed by 2 employees that made sure all was stocked and clean. Keep up the GREAT work!

It is new, modern and very clean. The rooms are large and well appointed. Every staff member we interacted with could not have been more helpful or friendly. The included breakfast was very good with lots of choices. To top it off we found it reasonably priced. For this class of hotel you cannot do better.

Clean, updated and attractive, hotel has easy access to both the highway and many restaurants for food. It's an average IHG property, nothing overtly stands out and nothing really impresses. Employees seem distracted. Carefully check your bill when you leave, our bill had a hold pending for over two weeks. When the hotel was contacted, to say they were less than helpful is being generous. Rooms were clean, laundry on site, wifi and breakfast offered. Windows open for ventilation which is quite n... With the exception of a check-in snafu, our stay here was very nice. We have stayed in quite a few HIE hotels, and this one is on a par with the rest. Very modern, clean, and comfortable. Good beds. Very nice breakfast, with a do it yourself pancake maker, omelets pre-made and more. Close to I-90 which makes it easy to get to all the attractions that probably brought you to Rapid City.

Pool and hot tub...,pool has bucket, etc for little ones to stand under. 25 minutes from Mt Rushmore and 28 or so from Crazy horse monument. Would definitely stay there again.

My family and I stayed here for four nights. When we are on vacation and rent hotels, I always look at Trip Advisor and the location of the hotel to try and find the best place for my family. Sometimes that works and sometimes not. I am proud to say this was a great choice! We were in walking distance of Outback Steakhouse. The hotel also has a wonderful free breakfast every morning. The best things to me, though, were the cleanliness and location. The friendly staff was just another plus. We ... Read more

Hotel looks good on the face. As a Holiday frequenter I was less then impressed with this Hotel. The front desk staff was not friendly or helpful when issues were presented to them. First, our room literally shook. Not consistently but on a regular basis the whole room simply shook, strange, I know. Secondly, we were placed directly across from the ice machine which prevent a good nights sleep as guest were continually filling their ice buckets, as they have the right to do. Arrived here after a long drive. Asked for an early check in, but no rooms were available. They did hold our luggage though, so we didn't have to haul it with us while seeing the sights. After sightseeing, we returned to the hotel ready to swim, only to learn a child had an accident in the pool and it would be closed for the night. My family stayed here on our way back from visiting Mt. Rushmore. We had 2 connecting rooms, which worked great for us. The rooms were updated and clean and the staff we encountered were courteous. Having been used to big city hotels I was in a quandary where to stay near Mt. Rushmore. Having viewed all 3 Holiday Inns in the area plus other brand motels, I chose this one. It has totally been renovated in the last 2 years; even down to the elevator. The room and bathroom are beautifully appointed, including a sofa, refrigerator, microwave, nice towels and bedding. Housekeeping was excellent and there was not any noise! I was so pleasantly surprised!

For the most part loved the place!!! Remodeled and it looks brand new. Breakfast was great, love the sausage gravy on toast. The bathroom has a great night light, soft green light that turns on when u walk into the bathroom, above the toilet. Loved it!!! Only problem was for the most part the room was clean, but the bathroom wasn't so much. There was hair in the sink and when we took a shower in the morning there was two dirty washcloths hanging on the shower curtain.

We mainly wanted a pool with zero entry for our 2 and 5 year old. This has a nice shallow end with some fountains and such but the main drawback is the giant bucket of water that dumps every few minutes. Thankfully someone warned us otherwise my small children would've been knocked down. You can turn off the bucket but that doesn't happen when school age kids are there so we had to watch our 2 year old very closely so she wouldn't get pummeled. Also the pool was cold and the hot tub was too HOT!... Read more

Stayed here one night and didn't get good sleep. Slamming doors and parking lot noise were problems. These were compounded by the architect who selected thermostats that don't let you keep the fan running all night. My biggest complaint was no white noise to hide the general hotel noise. Plus when my neighbor would close a door the wall and my bed would shake, so a cheap building that makes noise transference worse.

The HI Express was a very modern hotel with beautiful furnishings and a first rate staff. It's located right on I90 and close to a shopping center.
