Hotel is very conveniently located, it can be seen from the interstate. There is a target, Walmart, and other stores close by. Close to accessing attractions. The hotel is very affordable. There is a Perkins connected to the property. The water awesome! Pool rules are strictly enforced so no crazy trouble maker kids ruining everyone's fun. We highly recommend.???????????????????????????????????????????????????

While visiting Box Elder we stayed at the Grand Gateway Hotel for six days / five nights.... The decor is nice and clean but needs a little updating. The lobby is clean but again needs updating...the pool and spa are heated And they provide towels. There are two pool tables and a cabana type Bart in the pool area. Unfortunately there was also 50-75 uncontrolled kids but that is not the pools fault... The pool and spa were adequately chlorinated as you should be able to smell the chlorine in a pu... Read more

My family stayed at this hotel 2 weeks ago. The only thing that was nice was the layout of the hotel room. The pool area has a deck with 3 tables only and a high table. The pool itself is fairly small for having a slide. There is a very small jacuzzi, but you have to be 18 and older to use. There is a bar area, which is quite some distance from the pool area, and when we stayed there the bar area was full of adults and the pool was full of their young, unsupervised children. It was very scary. ... Read more

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Overall a pleasant stay. Pros: Large room with safe, fridge, and microwave as well as a nice sitting area Large TV with HDMI hookup Comfortable bed Some friendly staff Cons: Weird smell in the hallway outside our room Suffocatingly hot in the 4th floor hallway Kind of scary elevator Some rude staff Overall, for the price, I was happy with my stay.

looks better than it is. it is a family resort of sorts but some adults should learn to control their kids. the water in the hot tub smelled like raw sewage, and I expected a baby ruth to come bobbin on by. the slide is a war zone for bullies

This place has a very clean room, swimming pool and a overnight cafe next door. Their parking lot gets filled and you have to park at a distance. The staff are friendly and helpful. They do not serve any breakfast as most other places do.

Room was large, and quiet. Walking traffic through the parking lot at night was a little sketchy. Pool was enjoyable. Having a convenience store next door was nice since we had a fridge and microwave available.

I booked this hotel in March 2016, When I arrived the hotel did not have rooms for us, the manager finally found two rooms on the third floor, not the first as originally booked, the hallways and elevators are not the cleanest, the rooms themselves are adequate, when we checked out I found the hotel had charged and deducted from my credit card 4 times the price and $35.00 per room additional "incidental" charges. The manager told us it was all taken care of and our credit bill would reflect tha... Read more

I checked in after 12 midnight to my room. I was not notified in the paperwork or told that I needed to hang a do not disturb sign on my door. Since there is not breakfast service I was sleeping in until 8:45 am when a maid woke me up banging on the first door in the hallway. Yelling "maid service are you up yet, I'm here to clean your room." She then went across the hall to my door and repeated the above. And woke up my two older kids. Yelling "maid service". My husband was going to be in Rapid City for a week for work so my 1-year-old son and I accompanied him. We wanted somewhere nice since we would be spending a week here. Online the pictures looked nice and overall the reviews were pretty good. However, we were pretty disappointed. We arrived in the evening and immediately asked for a crib to be put into our room for our son to sleep in. The woman at the desk said they would send one up right away. 45 minutes and a crabby baby later still no crib... Read more

This was our first time at the hotel, we were actually booked elsewhere and we moved after finding out they had a bar with karaoke and a Perkins on site. The beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. The pool and hot tub and indoor water slide was fun. It was easy access on and off the interstate and close to all restaurants and the mall.

Great pool; friendly staff; I enjoyed the d├ęcor. Beds were uncomfortable (mattresses worn) and I found a used pair of underwear at the foot of the bed the next a.m. A child's toy was also found elsewhere in the room. A wet, used washcloth was hanging from the showerhead and dust was built up on trays and air cond. unit but the lamps and tv were dusted. All light switches and nightlight were very dirty also. Big disappointment.

This hotel was a dump. Pool was the only thing decent. Was told by counter staff that rooms were not cleaned unless you were staying more than 3 days. For the price paid, this is crazy. We had to take care of our own trash and making our own beds. Any trash we set in the hall would sit for a day before being picked up. Anything extra we asked for like extra bedding took half a day to get. I personally heard a desk person swear at a customer. No breakfast offered. I have stayed at a lot of cheape... Read more

Rapid City and the Black Hills are BEAUTIFUL. Our room was better than average and we had the experience of being the very first people to check in with Jamie (China). Working with him was a pleasure and later in our stay he helped us help another guest so that their equipment would not get stolen. He made our stay special.

When we arrived in Rapid City it was 97 degrees and when we reached our room it was about the same. But... When we told them our AC wasn't working we had headed down to the pool and within that hour not only had they responded to our issue but they in under an hour replaced the AC unit in our room. The staff was friendly and always helpful. The POOL area is Awesome with the slide. My one area where we talked about them not having is Free Breakfast but for us that wasn't a deal breaker.

We stayed for a week at this hotel. Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. Room was cleaned daily and bedlinen changed. Although we didn't use it, the pool, complete with slide kept the youngsters entertained. Although the hotel doesn't do breakfast, Perkins Restaurant is attached and is open 24 hr, reasonably priced. The hotel is a good base to see the sights in and around the Black Hills. free parking and always managed to get a space.

It's an okay hotel, I was in a giant group of 60 kids and adults. And the hotel handled it pretty well. I've stayed at this hotel 2 seperate times. The first experience wasn't so great. VERY outdated room, no breakfast, and (I know this is personal) I just felt uncomfortable in the hotel. The second time was little better. Updated rooms, and breakfast at Perkins *sigh* (which took 45 mins to get), but the comforter on my bed, was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept on, I'm pretty sure... Read more

We stayed on a recommendation from a family member. We stayed 3 nights and were less than pleased with the place. Check in was fine, but our room was not. We had to call down to have bed sheets replaced as all of them were filthy and the floor had not been vacuumed. The rooms were fairly quite, although we could still hear noises from the hallway. We learned a lesson while driving from Jackson Wyoming to Northern Michigan in late June: Plan ahead and make a hotel reservation DAYS in advance. Having never had a problem before finding a hotel in central South Dakota that takes dogs, we didn't start looking for a hotel until mid to late afternoon. We should have known, summer time is construction time and while fracking in the oil industry might be down, construction is up and there wasn't a hotel room anywhere in central South Dakota. W... I booked this room months ago and was nervous reading some of the recent reviews. What we found, however, was nothing like what has been said. Room was huge, AC worked superbly, and bathroom/vanity were plenty big (we were on 2nd floor). Room had a fridge which we used. It was conveniently located to the interstate and we got easily into downtown Rapid City for dinner both nights. Pictures online look better than in person. A very outdated hotel; reminds me of a grandmothers house in the 80s. Stayed two nights; my room was not cleaned after the first night. My bed sheets were in the exact position I left them. I don't think I've stayed at a hotel where they didn't make my bed. I must sound very snobby or whatever bc obviously I can make my own bed, but never had to at any other hotel. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Everything online had a false representation. Fridge in the room didn't work, online didn't charge for a my pet but they put a 20 dollar pet fee on at the counter. If I knew that I would have went next door and saved 10 bucks. Disappointed for cost verses quality.

After reading some of the other customers comments, I am wondering if we stayed at the same hotel as they did. Our room was nice and clean. It was not a nice as some we had stayed in, but then again, we weren't overcharged either. We stayed two nights and we were charged less for our stay here as we paid for one night in other hotels. The staff was quite courteous and informative.

We were on a 10 day road trip from AZ to SD back to AZ via CA. We stayed here one night. Our room was next to an exterior door that opened and closed all night long - every time it closed it shook the wall and the bed along with the loud "slam" of the door. It was the worst nights sleep we had the whole trip. The beds were so-so , and the decor was dated. other than that the staff was ok. I would not stay here again.
