We considered staying in Rapid City but saw the location closer to our Mount Rushmore destination and are so glad we chose wisely. Hill City is right in the heart of The Black Hills and offers a quick drive to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Mountain! We learned that the tourist season is from May to October so many businesses had not reopened yet. We recommend eating at The Alpine Inn and the Slate Creek Grill.

We were very pleased with this hotel that has been completely refurbished. The beds are great! Bill at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming! The hotel also has a nice breakfast (not continental). Very centrally located to all the activities in the Black Hills.

We've stayed here on several different trips. Hotel is clean, rooms are nice, beds are great. Front desk staff very helpful and courteous. Nice laundry facilities. Rates a little high for this time of year I thought. Breakfast ok, not crazy about the hot items like the eggs and meat offerings but the rest is good. We weren't there on the weekend but if we were I would not have liked that breakfast doesn't start till 7:00 on the weekends, should be 6:30 every day. Also noticed that the lock on t... Read more

Very nice looking HIE. Great location and scenery. Front desk staff were freindly and efficient. Hotel was clean and very modern looking. The parking was awkward since the the property was long and narrow. Long walk from back lot to front entrance for checkin. Room was very nice but I found the refrigerator to be noisy and sounds from neighbor bathroom were a little to loud. Otherwise I did enjoy my stay and would recommend.

This was my third Holiday Inn Express stay on my Graduation road trip in May - and Holiday Inn has really got the Express Inn model down pretty good. The rooms were absolutely great - roomy, with roomy bathrooms (which is not something you find often in a mid-scale hotel). Staff was friendly, location was quiet, fitness equipment in good working order - all for a price that was very reasonable. My only complaint - do something about those awful omelettes at breakfast!!! And treat your Native ... Read more

I stayed at this Holiday Inn on my way to Mount Rushmore from Fort Collins, Colorado. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and made recommendations to local restaurants and gave tips on the shortest route back to Denver. My room was clean, had free wifi, and the next morning had continental breakfast. I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone who will be visiting Mount Rushmore- it's only about a 15 drive away.

This is a fairly ordinary Holiday Inn Express. Nothing particularly outstanding, but nothing to complain about, either. The hotel has the great advantage of being one of the major chains that is located close to Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and the Black Hills in general. The hotel is located across some railroad tracks from the main drag through Hill City. I didn't think anything about that until we had checked in and were getting our luggage out of the car. Suddenly an old-time steam engi... Read more

Very friendly staff from the front desk to the housekeepers! Clean hotel and comfortable accommodations. Continental breakfast was important to us being a family of 5. They have a great variety of cereal, pastries, oatmeal, hot choices, pancakes, yogurt, breads, and fruit. Loved the Hill City location and would definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed our one-night stay here. There are two washers and dryers on the property. There was plenty of variety at the free breakfast. The hotel isn't far from Krull's Market, a nice grocery store, where we purchased fruit for the remainder of our trip.

I picked this place only on brand recognition, and of course my loyalty points. I stayed with them for 3 nights in early summer. Upon arriving at the place you'll find a new building and it's in very good condition. Everything is as clean as you'd expect, and their desk staff was kind, courteous, prompt, and satisfying. When I got up into my room on the second floor, everything was in Holiday Inn condition. Lots of towels, plenty of soap, the bathtub drained properly, and the toilet were in ... Read more

Hill city is old time Americana and our hotel was within walking distance of everything. We were on a road trip and came by it unexpectantly. It is within easy reach of mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse site and of course in the black hills. The rooms were spacious, airy amid light and extremely comfortable. I suggest a trip on the steam train through the black hills.

We spent four nights here on our sightseeing tour of the USA. The location is brilliant - close to Mt Rushmore and Custer State Park, and also close to Rapid City and Deadwood. Badlands is about an 80 min drive away too, so we were able to see lots using the hotel as our base. Plus lots of amenities are within walking distance of the hotel - Hill City's Main Street is only a 5 min walk away, which is handy. This is a great hotel in a great setting with the world's friendliest manager. She impressed me a lot as I saw her do the little things for guests and ask kids their names and where they were from and just visit with people. that really goes a long way. Nice rooms, great breakfast, good parking. The steam engine train station is right next door...the train whistle is a little loud but I actually liked it. so did the kids. ha. The hotel is a short walk from the central town area of Hill City, and even closer to the 1880's train. In fact, the train goes right by the hotel, which was wonderful for our son to watch it chug past. The rooms are typical Holiday Inn Express rooms, but very comfortable and clean. The beds were nice and comfortable, and the pillows generous. Stay in the Holiday Inn Express fairly often when I travel. Consistently resonantly priced, clean and comfortable. Nothing special, but common. Brenda made this one special. My friend got a bee sting and had a bad reaction. Brenda called the several urgent care centers, found the quickest one to get to and made sure we got there. She's the type of employee that makes one return. Holiday Inn Express is lucky to have her.

The location was great, close to Mt Rushmore and two blocks away from the railroad! The only disappointment was the hot tub wasn't working properly. There is a small grocery store within walking distance and a few gas stations. I had a nice conversation with the gentlemen that worked at night, but had a little run in with the morning crew.
