"Great Place to stay!!! After reading the reviews we were not sure about booking but decided to anyway. We were very pleasantly surprised. We stayed 2 nights. Our first night our room was on the corner and had 2 bedrooms which was large and clean. Dishwasher, full size refrigerator, table and pull out couch. It would have been perfect if we had our teenagers along (we plan to bring them back with us to the Reef in a few weeks). It was just my husband and I so the 2nd night we asked if we could move to another room with the bed near the patio door so we could see and hear the ocean. We moved to the room next door. The bathrooms are large and have the double sinks in one area and the shower/tub/toilet are in a separate doored off area. The staff was VERY accomodating and friendly. The ammenities are great. 2 hot tubs, indoor/outdoor pool which is kept at a nice temperature. Free tasty coffee. All the rooms have a beautiful close view of the ocean. There is a convenience store right across the street so you can buy items to cook in your room. We loved our stay and will stay there everytime we visit Myrtle Beach."

"This was a great price for what we were looking for. The oceanfront view was awesome. It had everything we needed. They even brought us coffee for the coffee maker each day. Granted there were a few things that weren't perfect but most places will have that no matter what you pay for the room. I was very pleased with our stay there. "

"For the money, this motel was ok. The room we were in had no ventilation in bathrooms and door jammed tightly. Door to separate bedroom from rest of room was cracked severly and had to pull on bottom to get open. We were there only couple of days and our key cards would not work. Had to have both replaced. We did not get maid service one day and had to get own towels and supplies. nAs to personnel; all were very friendly and accomodating. The view as wonderful "

"I took my mother to the beach for her birthday, I booked the reef, and was told there was a $100 deposit to put up and we would get it back after I stay, well the day we checked out the Manager was there and told us he did not have a key to the safe and would have to charge the $100 back to our card, well we only got $60back not the $100."

"I read the reviews before booking. I'll admit I was skeptical. Was the hotel older? yes. Could it use some updating? Yes. But I found the staff to be accommodating and friendly. It was located oceanfront, which was what we were looking for. FYI - buy yourself a cheap umbrella and two beach chairs and leave them for the next guest before spending $30.00 a day on the ones provided by the lifeguards. Overall - good for the money."

"We wanted to go on a 1 day trip before taking my daughter back to college at NCCU in Durham, NC. I read the reviews and was skeptical, but was hoping for the price, it would be semi-decent. When I arrived, the lobby was clean and both young ladies at the front desk were pleasant. The elevators weren't slow and moved at a good pace. I stayed in rm # 909 and it was clean, had towels ,washcloths, and linen. The carpet needed a shampooing, but wasn't awful. The tub had a light ring which we cleaned (brought our own cleaners). The kitchen was small, but adequate. The ocean view on the balacony was absolutely amazing, but due to the spacing in railing I wouldn't recommend that room for lil kids. We ate at the hotel restaurant and the food was ok, but bar drinks were great! Access to the beach was perfect and there's an ice cream shop few doors down. Check out was painless and quick for us with no problems getting security deposit back. I'm so glad that our stay didn't turn out like some of the previous reviews. I guess it all depends on individual rooms. Although this wasn't the Marriott or Hilton, it was good for the price and I would visit again."

"Great place to stay if you would like a 1980s retro kind of look. The bad thing is...its not 'decorated this way'. I believe it still has the same decor and furniture from the 80's. The room smelled so bad that we had to buy air fresheners. The bathroom 'vinyl ceiling' was falling down. Rooms are tiny. Carpet was so filthy, we wouldn't take our shoes off and it wasn't attached to the floor.. You had to be in by 9:00 pm, if you wanted a decent parking space, otherwise you had to park a block away. The only good thing I can say about the place is that, it is ocean front and I didn't see any bugs. Would not recommend to anyone."

"I was not very happy with my room. It was definitely NOT worth $200/night. I had a 2 bedroom unit. The bedrooms are very small. Just big enough to get the bed in. One of them, the door would not even open all the way because it hit the bed.

The carpet was nasty. My grandchild was crawling around and his hands and knees were black from the dirt.

Will NOT be staying there again."

"Before my trip, I was so happy about going to Myrtle Beach, but when I got there was so diappointed with the the Reef, the room was old and the carpet was very dirty even the hallway, the beds was so hard you through you was sleeping on the floor, first room was not the up grade I had paid for and then the 2nd room was ever worst then the first one. 2 elevators and they was so slow.The pictures they show on the web is a lie, there was no waiting pool as they say they have, not enough parking for all the guests, so it was like let me go out and come back just to get a good parking space. I had to ask the cleaning staff to vacum the carpet, because they would not, and we was there for six days and on the 4th day I called to ask if they would do so and the front desk person said in a nasty tone they are working as hard as they can miss. Let say my heart was very broken for my first time being there in Myrtle Beach. Someone threw up in the pool and they came along and just clean it up with a net and said nothing to the guest about it.I will go back to Myrtle Beach, but not to the Reef."

"The room was incredibly small for a two bedroom queen condo. The shower wouldn't drain and was rusted around all the metal. There appeared to be mold growing from the ceiling and the housekeepers never once swept our floor and we were at the beach for a week, sand is bound to build up. There was one trash can the would hold about a six pack in trash. The housekeepers all used the elevators when going just one floor and they didn't even have their carts with them. And there were only two elevators for 13 floors of rooms, took 3 hours at the end to only do 4 trips to the car and one of those trips was down the stairs with a three year old and an 8 month old from the 10th floor. Needless to say, we will NEVER stay there again. And when I talked to the manager he just recommended leaving at like 5 am, who wants to do that? When we checked in we had to put an additional 100 dollars down and that we would get the money back after check out when they were sure our room wasn't destroyed. Honestly, I didn't think it could get much worse. You have to sign a waver at check in that states how many towels and such you are allotted and if you don't have the towels in your room at discharge, there is a fee. If any dishes are dirty, there is a fee. And fees for this and fees for that."

"room was not clean, had 2 a/c units but room only got cool. on sunday morning woke up sweating, due to failure of unit, had enough and cut vacation short and checked out early. my private bedroom was not really a bedroom at all due to room entrance was thru the bedroom and the queen size bed in livingroom looked very tacky. also, our guess went home early."

"The reef resort is not what you see on the internet.The pictures do not show you the

real thing.Yes the Reef has a perfect view from your room of the ocean.This Hotel

was built in the 1979 and has not been kept up to standards.Bathrooms are in need of repairs.air conditioning units are noisy.and only 2 elevators for entire hotel.

"The honest truth, the parking very inadequate, only 80 spots on site with the top level entrance and exit ramps extremely tight for full size / big trucks there are three additional parking lots down the street .Pools were great, hot tubs were great and actually worked. Rooms were too small and we had a suite. Housekeeping was not up to par, we needed to get our own towels,and toilet paper just about everyday. Tub and sinks never washed. Elevator too slow. Also,the restaurant is not affiliated with the resort, so don't try to bill it to your room."

"For the money I spent and the high hopes that I had on a romatic trip to Myrtle Beach with my fiance', this trip was AWFUL. The rooms were not clean and the cleaning crew was rude and did not clean for anything. On top of being dirty, our room sink were clogged and our shower didn't work. They tried to move us to another room that was JUST AS BAD. When maintenance came, they didn't fix anything! There were no amenities in the room and we could not wait to leave. There cencellation policy is awfula dn makes it impossible to leave when you realize what you got yourself into. I will not be staying at the hotel ever again."

"The rooms were ok, they were not as nice as the pictures on the web site. Bathrooms looked dirty, they only had 2 elavators, and they were soooo slow, most days it was better to use the stairs. We had to ask 2 days in a row for towels, and they never had any on the cart, they would have to wait for someone to bring them some."

"This hotel was a decent place. Although we booked a room for 5 we only got bedding and towels for 4, so we had to ask for and retrieve our own bedding for the fold out bed (the staff apparently has no one available to deliver such items), and our door wasn't really working properly (it kept deactivating our room keys), but everything else was alright. It definitely has good view of the beach. For what we paid, it wasn't too bad. It was nice to have a kitchen in the room!"

"Me and my fiance recently stayed at The Reef this last weekend and were very pleased with the hotel. Everything was very nice including the rooms and staff. We stay at myrtle beach alot but this was our first time and this hotel and will def be staying there again in the future. "
