"Recognizing that most people are only motivated to review a place because they either had a surprisingly exceptional time or a terrible time, I will try to be as objective as possible.

First, rented this place sight-unseen after reviewing their website reviews. Secondly, I pre-paid for a full week in mid-July 2012, the height of the season, and paid a premium for the room. Thirdly, it was just myself and my girlfriend getting away for the week.

As mentioned in other reviews and the site's own promotional material, this is a family-centered place that was teaming with children when we were there - this is NOT the place for a romantic couples getaway. The pool was packed from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM everyday. Our room, a deluxe king which overlooked the pool, was barely adequate in closing-out the noise. The somewhat loud air conditioner that constantly ran was able to provide some masking white noise. We never went to the pool as a result, although they did clean it every morning. We did notice people staking-out their territory early (i.e., placing towels on lounge chairs then leaving) and could see how this would irritate other clientele.

The room interior was adequate overall, reasonably clean for a beach-side place, and the decor was nice. This is NOT a hotel or 'resort' (as they call it), though. It is essentially an high-rise motel with the garage next to the rooms and the door of the room opening to an outdoor hallway.

My biggest complaint overall about the room (having traveled on business for years in the late 1990's and early 2000's) was the mattress on the bed. It was, quite simply, among the worst I've ever slept on. All I felt all night long were springs in my back and side. Every time my girlfriend moved, it shook back and forth (and she's 5'3' and weighs 110 pounds). Being a fairly big guy, it was much worse for her as I tossed and turned. It was like a rocky trampoline. (I am always amazed that businesses will sink millions into renovating a place and then overlook something basic like a good mattress.)

Other Pros: The Wi-Fi worked fine. The water pressure in the shower and sink was good. The kitchenette was small, but clean, and the granite countertops were nice. It was easy to get to places and attractions.

Other Cons: The elevators, as mentioned in other reviews, were crowded, slow, and often left you waiting for a LONG time (after the first couple of days we avoided them altogether and took the stairs... very inconvenient if you are on a high floor). The carpet on the balcony had cigarette burn marks. All the linen needs to be replaced. The pull-out couch in the room was faded and slightly tattered in the front. There were not enough outlets to plug-in electronics. There was no desk in the room (but there was a glass table). The garage was always full and hard to navigate requiring overflow to across-street parking.

Bottom line, I would NOT return to this motel (yes, again, it's just a fancy 'motel' and not a 'resort') at the rate I paid unless they (1) replaced the mattress, (2) policed the pool area better, and (3) fixed the problematic elevators. Furthermore, if I hadn't pre-paid I probably would've packed-up and searched elsewhere after the first night. However, it seems clear that, based upon problems mentioned in prior reviews, management is looking at these reviews and trying to fix problems. I hope they read and heed this one, too."

"Pool view should not require leaning out the balcony ...way out and looking as far left as possible to see a pool. Not the one in the Carevelle pics but the one at the St John's inn where they put us. I really hate the 'partner' hotel concept. Hotels need to tell customers to share beach chairs at the pool. Leaving a towel all day to save a chair is truely sad and unfair to people actually using the pool. My kids had fun even if I didn't. I wouldn't know if I would stay at the Caravelle again since I didn't stay there. WI-FI sucked. Why do you need a heat lamp in bathroom and not a fan?"

"Okay, so they don't tell you when you book, that you will not be staying at the actual Caravelle Resort. Instead they shuffle you off to one of their five properties. We had picked the cheapest rate and ended up staying at a motel style building which was across the street from the family pool and ocean. We had trouble requesting a crib--- they lied and said one was on the way, and three hours and two calls later said they had all be given out already. No apology for thier incompetence. So...having said all that, room was okay- old, but nice. Family pool was fun. And ocean was really close. Had a good time even with the questionable booking and hotel service."

"Our room was very comfortable and clean. Although our room was across the street, we could see the ocean from our door. Cleaning service was top in my book. The beds were made and tucked in, fresh towels and bathroom condiments each day, and the tile floor in the bath and refrigerator area was mopped and disenfected each day."

"Overall, our experience with the Resort was great. However, I was slightly disturbed by my experience at the spa. I arrived, after getting soaked by the rain, to enjoy a nice relaxing pampering moment that ended abruptly leaving me half pampered. It began with a nice 30 minute massage. Then a manicure which I wish I had done myself (my nails weren't shape evenly or buffed which didn't allow for the polish look smooth upon drying). Looking at my nails, I felt that something wasn't right but didn't realize it until she started on my feet. The technician told me that because my nails seemed smooth and didn't have ridges in them, she didn't buff. While I understand that for individuals with a smooth nail bed, my nails had ridges. I know this because the week prior I peeled off the shelac polish (a 'no, no') leaving my nail bed unsmooth not to mention one nail that was broken and split that I peeled off and another that was split that I peeled too which left the nail bed unsmooth leaving the polish to look uneven/unsmooth. After mentioning to her that I realized she didn't buff which maybe the reason for the nail polish looking unsmooth, she said that I was being too hard on my nails and they looked fine to her. (I will say she did ask me before moving to my feet what was wrong and I was hesitant giving her my reasons (trying not to blame her) why it seemed like they didn't look right i.e. the fact that I recently dyed hair.) So with that said I have knowledge and experience in cosmetology. However, I wanted to be very objective and maintain that it was my hands and not her process or technique. So as we moved to my feet that is when I remembered that the buffing of my nails didn't happen. She stated that she could redo but would charge me for the labor...now what happen to the customer is 'always right' in addition to the business wanting a happy client/customer. Ha, not paying you additional for labor when you omitted steps in the manicure that was needed. I still can't believe that I paid for a manicure that barely happened. Ok, back to my feet...as I stated (not a huge complaint) my concern for my nails, she abruptly stopped working on my feet stating that since I was unhappy about my nails that she didn't want to continue. She thought that I was comparing her work instead of me knowing my nails and how she should manicure them. I was thankful that she stopped because it seemed that my expectations were higher than what she could handle. I pleasantly departed without a fuss and thanked her. She did give me a card for a future discount that will probably not get used by me."

"We had our issues. It took over two hours for the hotel to respond to our smoke alarm going off. We ordered additional towels three times before actually getting them over a 24 hour period. When we first arrived our TV did not work and there was fecal matter in the pool. My daughter found it. Any way we will not be back.

"Hotel perfect for families. Rooms and pools are very clean. Close to the beach. The only complain is the elevator wait - a lot of people checking in and out, plus people getting up and down from the 7 floor pool. Better take a room on 2nd or 3rd floor. Stairs smell mildew. If you need a sofa bed call and request the hotel. Some rooms have chairs and sofa (not always sofa bed). People at reception very friendly and nice. Hotel is located 15-20 minutes drive from Boardwalk"

"My wife and I just returned from 3 wonderful days of relaxation at the Caravelle Resort. This place is on point. There is nothing I can say that was wrong. We had a problem with our door not opening on our last night, but one call to maintenance and within 5 minutes they exchange the locking device and was gone. I would recommend this place to every person I know. "
