Local Area
The history of Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum began in June 1975 when the legendary aircraft carrier USS Yorktown entered Charleston Harbor. A few months later, the USS Yorktown was dedicated as the first ship of the Naval and Maritime Museum on the 200th birthday of the United States Navy. Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum was officially opened to the public on January 3, 1976. Revel in glorious sunsets over Charleston Harbor as you enjoy a stroll on the docks and enjoy the most picturesque waterway in the Lowcountry. Called the crown jewel of Mt Pleasant, Memorial Waterfront Park offers more than just your average park. Located under the grand entryway to the town, at the base of the Ravenel Bridge, this park has plenty of lawn for enjoying family picnics, a nautical-themed playground modeled after the bridge that provides shade and the boats that pass by in the harbor and soft-serve ice cream from the River Watch Cafe. The cafe offers beautiful views of Charleston Harbor and a 1,250-foot-long pier where you can sit and swing a while. Memorial Waterfront Park is also home to the Sweetgrass Cultual Arts Pavilion and War Memorial.

This hotel is in a great location. It's right at the bottom of the Raven el bridge so it's convenient to downtown and the beaches. It lacks quite a bit. No coffee maker or refrigerator in the room. Their going GREEN so you don't get bed service or clean linen daily. It's an "X" for me. Not my cup of tea...Also, a lot of truckers stay there so it's a little seedy...And, it has limited cable channels. Hell, I missed SOUTHERN CHARM because they didn't have BRAVO.....

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. Our room had been recently renovated and was comfortable. The location is close enough to see Charleston and go to the beach without getting on the interstate. Added bonus was the walking distance to Starbucks and Whole Foods which had a vast array of prepared foods. We also like that this is a pet friendly hotel but was clean.

The office staff were very friendly and helpful. We had 1st floor room with microwave and refrigerator. Going Green is one thing; one day out of three nights, had room service One night. We were in and out, which seemed to miss the daily room service; so left no tips as requested. The bathroom was super small. Just room enough to take shower and/or sit on toilet. Was minimal space, I would say about 3 x 6' (if that) of standing room with toilet space included. This place was dirty; visi... Read more

Rm 165, king deluxe with microwave & fridge. Older hotel, clean room. Handicap shower/bathroom not asked for. Very little space for toiletries. This room is located at back of hotel on first floor.. right in front of the stairwell. Kids running up & down. Kids & adults yelling.. echoed in stairwell. 11:30 pm called Tim at the front desk. He did come check on things. It did quiet down. Smoke detector beeped about 6 times during the night like they do when the battery is going & needs to be replac... Read more

I woke up to baby roaches in my bed! Crawling all over me. They still charged the visit and gave a free stay pass! Even showed pictures which I accidentally deleted off my phone and even showed management! Granted the room was clean but looks can be very deceiving!!!!!!!!!

I cannot fathom this place charging $150/night--I would have been upset paying half that. the only good thing about it is the location. I was worried I would not be able to stay the night here. Checking in, I was overwhelmed by the smell of cigarette smoke in the lobby. In the room, overwhelmed by the musty odor and mold smell. Mold was visible throughout the room, especially in and around the bathroom, with mold speckling the bathroom walls and door. I refused to take a shower here and instead... Read more

Room: Our room was clean and large. Plenty of towels, lots of space for all of our gear. Service: All of the front desk staff were very friendly and accommodating. We arrived a few hours before check-in, very hot in the summer heat riding up from Savannah on our motorcycle. They had our room ready in 15 minutes while we waiting in the air conditioned lobby and had a water. The young man at the front desk the next morning, observing my partner and I going through our morning work out in the par... Read more

If you don't care about friendly service and cleanliness this is it! Upon check in which was late, the room at first glance (rm 124)appeared clean however the bathroom had a black hair (I'm blonde) on the base of the bowl and inside bowl it was obvious it was not cleaned. Trash cans outside were overloaded, guests smoked right in front of rooms so you had no choice but to walk through their stench to get to your room. And forget opening your dark room curtains to get some natural light since an... Read more

Stayed here overnight, after arriving very late and very tired after driving from Charlotte. Bedding and room was clean, but room seemed very dated. Lamps and metal work on all the lights and fixtures looked as if they were rusting. Room smelt musty and damp. Stayed at the back of the building, next to stairwell, which created noise nearly all night. Car's pulling up in car park, with headlights shining straight into ground floor windows, and people sitting in cars with engines running and peo... Read more

While trying to close the bathroom door I fell over the commode which is too close to even step around! The alarm went off and woke us up in the middle of the night (and while I was checking in resulting in ear ringing which has not resolved) because it has "a short or something". The desk clerk on duty when I checked out have us a slight bill credit only to recharge it to my Visa after I left. Beware.

This hotel is a great alternative to staying in the city of Charleston. It is just across the bridge, the first exit. It is clean, in a good area, quiet and reasonable. We stayed here while visiting Charleston. The staff was excellent and we were able to leave our car there while we took a cruise from Charleston. They gave a name of a car service which drove us to the cruise terminal and picked us up again. This hotel was a good choice for us to save money and yet enjoy the full wonderful ... Read more

Ok looking on the inside, modern fittings & bed etc. BUT moguls on ceilings, walls & bathroom door frames. As soon as we opened the front door you could smell it. The only reason we stayed was it was late, were tired & just put allergies aside. Also we found a twisted mess of someone else's hair on the underside of a pillow, a cockroach was watching us from the wall under clothes hangers. Apart from that it was a nice unit with a clean & deodoriser it would be great as its only aesthetics that l... Read more

We stayed here for a night before we took a cruise out of Charleston South Carolina. It wasn't the fanciest place in the world but it did the job for what we needed it for. The location is very convenient to the Carnival cruise port. The front desk staff wasn't very friendly.

We came down on vacation. Our family stays with Red Roof very frequently and we get several free stays with our points. We used three for this visit. Checked in Monday. Got back from beach Tuesday, room keys were deactivated. Went to office; we were checked in incorrectly and our stay wasn't on our reward points? They fix that, we get into our room again, and its not been turned down. Go back to office... woman at desk very short and did not seem to care. I was told a housekeeper would be around... Read more

Wasn't sure about this place as we've never used the Red Roof chain. We were pleasantly surprised! Strong wi-fi signal, clean rooms, and quiet. The room we were in was very modern and clean. Beds were super comfy! The only complaint I have is there weren't irons/ironing boards in the rooms which we need due to the nature of our business travel.

Okay, If you are coming to Charleston for the first time stay downtown and pay more. It's worth it. However, my wife and I lived and worked in Charleston for 30-plus years (last twelve years on Daniel Island) before moving to the mountains of North Carolina. Recently (mid-August), at the last minute, our youngest son, still living and working in Charleston, asked us to come to Charleston and go sailing with him in the harbor. Because his invitation was only days before sailing, everything downto... Read more

This place is an absolute hidden treasure! It is one of the best locations for a hotel. The prices are reasonable and are always able to find coupons online. You are literally walking distance to the mount pleasant pier and minutes from Shem Creek and Sullivans Island. Wouldn't stay anywhere else!

What is everyone's issue with this place??? Stayed a night while moving to the area, got a new, remodeled and super-clean room for $108 including tax and that is way cheap for summer (high season) in this area. Wifi fast and steady, had a nice view over a pond/lake, front desk guy was friendly, lots of cable channels, easy to find location. Really amazed that some are giving this place such low scores. I don't see how for the price it could have been any better and so close to the bridge into Ch... Read more
