Check in was ok. Susan wasn't the friendliest but we did check in at midnight. The room was nice and very clean. The size of the room was not comparable to other rooms at other beaches for the same price but we made it work. Our room had a mini fridge but no microwave. Great for an extended weekend but not a week long vacation. There was so much to do in the surrounding area. The best part....the hotel literally sits on the beach and right next to the pier. Tides has live entertainment and the d... Read more

We were looking for a low key, affordable and convenient place to stay directly on the beach. The Tides provided just that. There is nothing about this hotels accommodations that will overly impress you, but the staff were all friendly, the rooms were clean (but dated), there wasn't a lot of ruckus going on in the lobby or pool area. The restaurant (Blu) is good & reasonably priced. Right across the street are some quaint beach style shops & restaurants with good food and good life music. T... Read more

Being the only full service hotel it has a monopoly on what to charge but is in a good location. This property is 40 years old, very worn and dated. When we first checked in the staff was friendly. We were assigned a room but ended up having to request being moved to another due to dirty and stained bed sheets. The staff was very apologetic and quickly moved us to another room where the linens were clean. However, the carpet was torn and frayed at the threshold, the commode seat was in despe... Read more

My mom and I decided to take a quick trip down to Folly Beach, and while I've been to Folly many times, I've never stayed here before. The hotel is beautiful, right on the beach, and the customer service was excellent. My mother has mobility issues, so I asked if our room could be near the elevators, while still being ocean front (wasn't an issue because all rooms are ocean-front!). They definitely helped with our request, and with all other requests we made. Very accommodating staff (with south... Read more

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend in April. At first we wanted to stay in downtown Charleston. After seeing the hotel rates were more than this hotel on the beach, we decided to stay at the Tides hotel. It is on the pricy side but you are paying for the location. You can walk to all the restaurants, shops, and pier. We had room 736. Seems this room and the bathroom has had some updates. The room was clean but there was sand on the desk chair. There is no microwave. The bed was comfortab... Read more

After reading reviews, we had a mix of feelings as to what to expect... and whether to book or not. This was our first visit to the area, visiting Charleston but also wanted a pool and access to the beach. Perfect location for both. As stated in a few reviews, the Tides is an older Hotel. The location and view are awesome, access to folly beach restaurants are all within walking distance and are good. Hotel service is above most 4 and 5 star resorts. You cannot beat the service and qual... Read more

Love Folly Beach and staying at the Tides....great full-service hotel right at the beach....beautiful view from an oceanside room preferably above the 5th floor....the rooms could use an update, however we liked the location and the helpful staff at the Tides....can't wait to return!!

Upon arrival the hotel parking lot was full however the parking lot attendant was great and assisted in every way he could. The front desk was not friendly at all. I requested a crib. It took two requests before we got it. Room had a fantastic ocean view and was comfortable. Buffet breakfast had wide variety of foods to choose from at a reasonable price. Dinner menu could include more "plain" choices. Beach was great. Pool was great. Last morning there was no one to help with luggage and only o... Read more

We enjoyed our stay @ Tides Folly Beach. The staff were all very helpful & friendly. The view from the 9th floor was beautiful but our room didn't cool very well due to the front door not closing well. Also, it would have been nice to know that the beach chairs & umbrellas had to be rented each day.

I recently visited Charleston via Folly Beach staying at Tides Inn We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and our room had a beautiful view of beach and pier. Hotel is convenient to local restaurants and pubs. Parking available and no additional charge. During our stay their were several weddings on the beach which is always fun to watch. The pool area was nicely maintained and beverages were close at hand for pool and beach. Blu was a nice restaurant, we didn't get to eat their dur... Read more

Room was clean & quiet. Hotel within walking distance of all the shops & restaurants along Center St in Folly Beach, and a fairly painless drive to Charleston. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, & the beach access was simple & features rinsing stations. My only complaint, which is minor, is that the pool is a bit small. That said, it was never "too crowded" for our kids. Will definitely stay here again. Nice oceanfront views.

Nice room, stayed on the 5th floor oceanfront and had a beautiful view with a balcony. Restaurant on site, good food. Nice pool area and access to the beach. They also have a starbucks which was great to get up in the morning grab a nice cup of coffee and take a nice early morning walk on the beach. They also have movie night on the beach with a nice big screen.Friendly staff, recommend staying here.

This was our 3rd stay at the Tides. As usual our room was immaculate, housekeeping is spot on!!! But what happened to what once was awesome customer service? We experienced unhappy, slow, sullen employees, from front desk, restaurant staff down to coffee shop. Actually from our 5 day stay I can think of no one outstanding. In the past it was amazing, no more.

We went to the Charleston area for our 50th anniversary and found the beach town of Folly and the Tides. What a wonderful little town and a great place to stay. The restaurant on site is great, had lunch and breakfast and was very pleased. Short drive to downtown Charleston. If you want to visit Charleston and still have some great beach time try the Tides Folly Beach you will like it.

The is rated a 3 based on location. If you want a hotel on the beach close to Charleston, this is the only choice. All rooms have great ocean front views. Unfortunately the balconies are too tiny to even have a chair. The beach and ocean water here are amazing and we stayed out all day for 2 days. Be sure to add $30-$50 a night to your bill to rent beach chairs and umbrella. If you look closely everywhere in the Tides is outdated and worn. They likely have to decide whether it is worth it to r... Read more

My granddaughter and I stayed for one night at the Tides Hotel. We were lucky to get a room at 8 PM, or I would have opted to leave after checking the room. The sofabed mattress did not have a mattress cover, the blanket and the one on the bed were both dirty, and the sofabed linen did not appear to have been changed. The towels rolled up on the shelf were dirty, as were two of the wash cloths. I had staff bring up clean linen for both beds, I could not be sure the bed sheets were clean sinc... Read more

I've stayed at this hotel twice now. Both weren't the best experiences and I won't be back. This visit I booked two rooms. First issue: The second room reeked and I mean reeked of dog piss as soon as you opened the door. The front desk quickly moved my guests to another room, but in my opinion, they room never should have been available to the public given its condition. Second issue: House keeping is in and out, doesn't clean up very well (bugs on the floor) and didn't replace the towels. Ag... Read more

when you walk into the lobby you feel the sand under your shoes and the salt in the air.it smells like vacation. Just apply the sun lotion and go enjoy the beach. this hotel has been transformed from a vintage motel to a fun beach Hotel. Do not expect a five star hotel. enjoy the ocean view from your room. walk the long wood pier. watch a vollyball game. jump the ocean waves. take a jet ski out. or just enjoy the beach.

My son and I recently stayed at The Tides Folly Beach during the Fourth of July. The Hotel was close to the downtown area and had music most evenings. They offered a band on the Fourth of July and had a cook-out. The staff was so friendly and helpful. As a single mom it was a great experience! We will be back.

This was our first trip to Folly Beach. We had high hopes for this hotel. Fell WAY short. First, the pool was green and had a sign that just said "closed". It opened on our 3rd day there and was still green and I wouldn't dream of swimming in it. No refund offered of any kind. However, many people from the beach, who aren't guests at the hotel, do swim in it. The pool is small and dated also. Towels, drapes and sheets were stained. Mold in the bathroom. Some sort of gross stain on the ... Read more

Tides is decent, it's not exceptional and it's not horrible. The decor is modernish I would put this in a category of a decent beach hotel, not a resort by any means. Staff was friendly and breakfast at Blu was great. Folly beach is super cool, great restaurants and beach vibe, live music all over. We were pretty happy to stumble upon Tides and Folly beach while spending some time in Charleston.

Just Ok. Room was extremely small. Room was clean. Beds were ok however there was only a sheet and a thin coverlet on the bed. No actual blankets on the bed or in the room. Staff did bring us a couple of blankets on our second night when we requested them. Staff was extremely kind and friendly and I saw them dealing with difficult guests very professionally. Workout/fitness room was directly in front of the elevators. It was awkward to use as everyone would look in as this was the primar... Read more

Very good place to spend a vacation. All beach front suites. The only draw backs were the elevators, restaurant and the room air conditioners. Only two elevators, and with all the beach goers and the arrivals, they are slow. The restaurant lacks. The breakfast breakfast was way below par. Most of the items, when I was there, were warm to cool. The taste was also below par. And the room A/c's were a little (?) on the noisy (?) side. But the beach front and the rooms (other than the a/c's) are f... Read more

Took a weekend vacation to folly beach with a couple friends! Loved the hotel, can't beat the location or view. Definitely a little pricey but worth it. Clean nice rooms. Friendly helpful staff. We absolutely loved this place! We sat out on the deck and watched the people kayaking and paddle boarding. It was very cool to watch yachts and other boats come in. People get off and go in and eat. We could have stayed all day just drinking and watching everything going on. Our waiter was fabulous. I was dead set on getting the grouper and he was so descriptive and excited about the filet and pimento cheese grit special I changed my mind and got it. Best filet ever. Perfectly cooked seasoned.... Read more
