Perfect place to stay when visiting Charleston! We went on numerous excursions during the day (10-20 min drive) and it was nice to come back to the hotel and have a beach! Our kids 8 & 10 played their hearts out from 6-9pm every night! The hotel is at the end of the Main Street in Folley beach which also made it convenient for dining and shopping! Would definitely return!

So we decided to stay at The Tides for its great location on the beach in the heart of Folly Beach. The lobby is updated and inviting. The exterior of the building is in need of updating! The front desk staff is excellent and super helpful. ROOM: Our ocean front room was average. There was obvious signs of wear and tear on the room. The room was very small. The bathroom was below average with a standard shower in tub with curtain, single sink. There was no balcony to walk out on to si... Read more

I took my teenage daughters on a mini vacation and we loved this place. Jay is the best, he helped us with every thing we needed! Everyone is very friendly. The restaurant is amazing too. Walking distance to great restaurants and tourist shops! We will be back again for sure! Thank you for such an amazing time!

Very friendly and helpful staff. The Rooms were nice and clean. Little out dated but still nice. Can't beat the location. Little pricey but worth it. Many places to walk to and visit and eat. Plenty of beach chair for rental. Pool was also nice and clean

We were booked into The Tides for one night (a Thursday) on route to Beaufort, S.C. for a long weekend. Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Hermine decided to visit, relatively trapping us in Folly Beach for Friday and Friday night. The staff at The Tides were very gracious in insuring a rate for our extra night that felt reasonable and fair to us. The hotel is not new and it shows in some respects (ie, the furniture in Blu, the hotel restaurant); however, the rooms are clean - all with an ocean ... Read more

I've been to the Tides a few times and have never been disappointed with the room or the service -- and the convenient location is a plus. You can be on the beach yet be close to Charleston and all the sites the area has to offer. The rating is "Excellent" because, for this type of hotel, it has everything, including a very good on-site restaurant. One thing to keep in mind is that since it is right on the beach you contend with sand, loud surf, and humidity. Of course, you can keep your patio d... Read more

All ocean front rooms, clean beach and pet friendly. Hard to beat for a great beach/Charleston vacation spot. Good onsite dining and walk to several other restaurants. Great place to travel with a dog , dogs can be on beach before 10am and after 6pm.

While you can rent all sorts of houses at Folly Beach, there are only two hotels there, and oddly enough, both are called Holiday Inn (the other is spelled slightly differently, is about fifty years old, and isn't right on the beach). One thing to note: Make sure that you request a room that is lower than the fifth floor or so if you're staying in the dead of summer. While the air conditioning units work well, during the middle of the South Carolina summer, it's just too hot. Last year, we had ... Read more

This was a really nice hotel right on the beach on Folly island. It was lovely and from what I understand was recently thoroughly refurbished. The decor was coastal and well done. It was very clean too! All rooms are ocean front. The staff could not be nicer and very helpful when needed. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast. You can eat inside or outside. With such amazing weather we opted to eat outside. The food is very tasty. There is a charge for breakfast - not complimentary like some lar... Read more

Stayed at TIdes Folly Beach 9/3/2016-9/5/2016. The hotel is right on the beach and all of the rooms have beautiful ocean views. The rooms are roomy, clean and decorated with a very 'beachy' design. They are very comfortable. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful!! Two things kept me from giving an excellent rating: - Tides has a bird problem. Eating on the outside deck was less enjoyable because of the birds swooping in to grab food, having bird droppings on tables and chairs and ge... Read more

We stayed at the The Tides over Labor Day weekend.. Very impressed with the staff and the service. They had over and above staff to take care of the Labor Day crowd. They seemed very organized. The rooms were beachy cool and of course the view and conveniences of the beachfront can't be beat.. Our favorite was the Beach Bar and the terrific restaurant The Blu met all of our needs for our family. Liked the outdoor grill and the extras for the holiday weekend. We will be back!

I recently stayed at the Tides Folly Beach with family for a wedding. The hotel was in a nice location with a beautiful beach near the fishing pier. Our room had a great view. However the entire hotel is a bit tired and outdated in decor and upkeep. Lots of rust on metal things both inside and outside of the hotel made the place look poorly maintained; some serious upkeep is in order. The breakfast buffet was very average and offered no coffee for those of us who don't like the burnt taste a... Read more

This hotel clearly benefits by being the only one on the ocean in Folly Beach. It seems to be the "place to go" I found the beds uncomfortable , the decor OK, the service decent and friendly. The restaurant was just passably OK. The "Tiki Bar" likewise, nothing to write home about. The view of course, and the beach are spectacular.Do yourself a favor, and venture out for meals and drinks. Folly has a number of terrific little spots.

The Tides hotel is the only big hotel in Folly Beach. It is in an excellent location with great recreational amenities (for a cost obviously). Fun to be walking distance to almost all restaurants in downtown Folly Beach. Overall a fun experience. However, I would not give this hotel an A rating mostly due to their housekeeping. We were told we had to wait an extra two hours after arriving because our room was being "cleaned". But when we got into our room, there was a build up of dirt/sand in ... Read more

The property that this hotel sits on is amazing. Beach is so clean, the pier so close. The hotel although clean; is very outdated and in need of a great deal of updating. THe nightly rates are so high that I would have expected plush linens, crisp fresh paint and beautiful bathrooms. Aside from the beach, you felt like you were at a mid-priced motel.

As promoted by its website and staff, the Tides is the only oceanfront hotel on Folly beach. However, this isn't all good news. Itâ??s great for the management, but there is a downside for guests. The hotel is disappointing on a number of levels: price, amenities, dĂ©cor and service are just a few. It isnâ??t a bad hotel, but at an average of about $250 per night, I expected more. There isnâ??t one big thing wrong; itâ??s more like the collective weight of a lot of nits added up to a hohum e... Read more

Things I love: Friendly staff/ Pet Friendliness/ View/Location/Lobby/Clean Beach/Restaurant/Comfortable Beds/Free wifi & parking Things that need improvement: Sheets/ Bedspreads/Blow Dryers.... all cheap and pitiful for this price point I'll just plan to bring my own dryer & bedspread next time. I love Folly Beach and as preciously mentioned...the staff is great.

Our stay was during the off season and the price was over $800 for two nights. Now we decided to stay in the bottom level suite with the private terrace so from the online presentation it would be worth the money. Well imagine our surprise when we walk into a tiny room that has not been swept, has no handsoap, has scotch tape all over the walls from apparently the last guests, has no microwave, has sheets on the bed that are ripped and then as we walk out on the "private" terrace that has direct... First impressions of Tides is good and it is very easy to find at the end of the main road into Foley Beach. There were lots of porters around and reception was manned by bright and happy staff who quickly checked our group in and sorted the room keys out. Tides is an expensive beach hotel for what it is. Location is ideal I'll give them that, but the hotel needs updates to charge what they do. I won't list the things I found wrong, but the hotel and rooms (at least mine) need attention. The worst thing for me was house keeping. Garbage cans not emptied, late service (one day none at all) and at a beach hotel the sheets needs to be changed daily. Sorry to be negative but I spent a $1,000 of hard earned money and expected more.

Glad that we booked here, with the only oceanfront hotel on the island with all rooms facing the ocean it had great views. The staff was great and very courteous. The rooms were well kept and it was nice to only walk a few feet to put your toes in the sand. We hope to go back again some day and would recommend staying here.

Had a wonderful stay at the Tides in September. Even the one day was during the tropical storm still was nice atmosphere to hang out in for the day and just watch the storm from the hotel. I absolutely loved being able to enjoy the ocean from my room or from the beach or from the pool area. Staff was very friendly the lobby very nice and comfortable. We decided to book at Tides because a family member was having a wedding there, and it seemed like it would be good to stay on property for convenience. When we arrived, the lobby was very nice. We were impressed. When we got to our room, it was obvious that we had made a huge mistake by staying here. The room needed to be renovated horribly. There were cracks in the walls. While this hotel could use a few cosmetic updates, the location is perfect. Even better is the fact that they have a tremendous outdoor space, good food, and the service in the restaurant is top notch. We were there over the weekend and it was packed. Our server, Amanda, at Blu in the Tides Hotel was excellent. She was professional, attentive, friendly and personified good customer service. She made us feel special even though she had a full station.

I live on Folly so don't use the hotel but have frequented their restaurant, usually the patio area. It is so pleasant to have the ocean breeze and that beautiful view while dining. Recently, we were on the beach and decided to get a burger to go from the restaurant. While the bartender who took our order was delightful, the food took over 20 minutes to make and then it wasn't what I had ordered. My husband went back and asked for the condiments that were missing and they were delivered to t... Read more

OK, so the hotel may be a bit worn, but geez Louise..........this place is solidly packed from late spring until just after Labor Day. And they have the best view. Poolside drinks during late afternoon, you just cannot beat that. And everybody is relaxed and happy and very often, sunburned. On Folly Beach, you can eat at really only 2 restaurants while viewing the ocean. The Tides is one of them. There is an indoor section and outdoor section. Sometimes there's live music. It's on the ground floor of the Tides Hotel. The food is fairly good and not too expensive. The hotel is on the beach and attached to the Pier. This is practically as good as it gets on Folly Beach.
