My friend and I just experienced 5 nights at the Hampton Inn, Charleston S.C. We were not able to get reservations at another hotel in the area. We do not normally stay at Hampton Inns and weren't sure what we would think. HONESTLY, we could not have picked a better place to stay. CLEAN, Friendly and the location is the best! Next to the visitors center, we were able to make all of our reservations the first day we arrived. The tour buses left from right across the street! The free trolley stop... Read more

We were here for 3 nights following a 3-night stay in Savannah GA, also at a Hampton Inn. The location couldn't have been better for first time visitors to Charleston, in the heart of downtown, across the street from the visitor center, and within walking distance of some excellent restaurants, the ferry to Fort Sumter, etc. The free trolley that left across from the hotel got us to all the other downtown locations we wanted to visit. The location could not have been more convenient, right across the street from the main visitorÔ??s center, across the street from shuttles that take you out to the plantations, across the street from a stop for the free downtown bus which loops around the historic area, and next door to a couple of excellent restaurants and yummy ice cream shop. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. Nice free breakfasts, nice outdoor seating. No hotel bar but a nice one is next door. Rooms ... Read more

Love Hampton Inns. This one is in a great location on the edge of the main historic streets so everything is within easy walking distance but it is quiet as well. We arrived very early on a Sunday morning - I mean very early as we had travelled overnight by Amtrak on the Silver Meteor - but the staff let us in & told us to help ourselves to the complimentary breakfast that Hampton serve - they are really good, great selection. The staff was terrific, the hotel just needs some updates. Looks like the hotel and the rooms were last updated 25 years ago. This doesn't mean that it isn't clean, just that you would expect more for the price my wife and I paid even if it was on Memorial Day Weekend.

This hotel is very recommendable as a value-for-money base in Charleston. The rooms and amenities of this property are standard Hampton Inn fare, and none the worse for that. It's not the most modern of their hotels that we've stayed in but the location, opposite the Visitor Center (with a stop on all the free trolley routes), and a couple of minutes' walk from the many restaurants and bars in King Street, is excellent. We were in walking distance of many of the major attractions and restaurants in Charleston. If you don't want to walk, there was a free trolley stop across the street. The hotel staff was excellent, answering many of my questions and giving directions to local popular attractions. The breakfast was a good start to each day. Our room was clean and quiet. This hotel is ideal if you are in town for a few days and need a place in a central location. The price is reasonable and adequate to rooms cleanliness, beds' comfort, morning breakfast, and friendliness of staff. The hotel is across the street from stop of the green free trolleys to the waterfront and the City market. It has a small pool, quiet and not overcrowded. The clientele is an older crowd, very laid back and in town for a quiet relaxed time. Definitely great for a family trip.

We stayed here for 4 nights. Staff was friendly and helpful as we were first time visitors to this beautiful city. Breakfast had varied hot food every day;I loved that they had oatmeal already made! The free trolley right across the street was so nice and easy to get to all parts of the city. There are several places to eat nearby; try Coast for a super meal. The room and beds are comfy and have a large bathroom.

Across from visitors center and can walk to almost anything of interest in historic district. Good breakfast and staff. Didn't get into the pool but it's located nicely with the interior courtyard. I was a little disappointed with this Hampton because the king room was very small (understandable in a historic building, but don't try to bring a pack'n'play). It also lacked amenities like a mini-fridge and microwave that seem to be standard at other Hamptons. These things seems minor but are much appreciated when I travel solo for work. Otherwise, I can't complain because the staff was very friendly and the place extremely clean. The location was also great for walking around downtown.

There was an event going on outside of our window but neither the lights nor the noise bothered us. Parking is in the adjacent garage for $17/day but if you tell the attendant that you're staying at this hotel, you'll get a receipt ... Read more

I'll start with the positive points - the staff is incredibly kind and very helpful and the location is wonderful. That is where it stops. After check-in, you ride in elevators that are so grimy that you don't want to touch anything. The rooms are musty. The bathroom wallpaper is peeling and has mold underneath. The shower has mold and mildew in the grouts. The outlet in the bathroom is poorly placed and so loose that my husband had to hold hairdryer plug in place so I could dry my hair. The tow... Read more

The staff at this Hampton Inn was just superb. From Curtis and Henry the Bellman to the front desk in the afternoon and morning shifts and the kitchen staff it was just simply an easy place to stay and feel at home. The rooms have been renewed the carpet has been replaced and it's just like wearing a comfortable slipper.

We had booked three rooms before reading the reviews so was rather skeptical what we were going to encounter but was really pleased as everything was pretty good- our rooms were on the 4th floor which happened to be the floor they were renovating and sometimes started a little too early for some of us- they did have a lot of damage from "Matthew" and r planning on renovating other floors also- had no smell in our rooms - we thought the breakfast had everything u could want-also nice to have the... Dingy and poorly lit rooms. Trash piled in the lobby. A/C inoperative and promised maintanence guy never showed up to fix it. No decent parking. Woodwork needs painting. Overpowering smell of cheap floral room deodorizer (that stuff is toxic to human health). If I were in management at Hampton I would gut this place and start over. BAD!

The hotel is in the perfect location for walking to the lovely sites and restaurants in Charleston. Our room was comfortable. Breakfast was included and most enjoyable. Parking in a nice garage next door convenient.

This is my favorite hotel to visit in the US. The courtyard is lovely and the perfect place for breakfast or an evening visit with family. The location is perfect. We did a Turkey trot at Thanksgiving and the race literally started just outside the hotel.

We did observe that the carpet is being replaced in room in this hotel and think that is a good idea. The location of this hotel is excellent and the staff at the front desk were terrific. We had a very nice welcome at arrival and had a problem with our room the first night and when we brought this to the front desk they moved us to another room. They deserve praise for this. Our first room was right near the parking garage and near the music hall so was a bit noisy and it seemed like the a... Read more

I just left the Hampton Inn - checking out one day early. My experience here had me change our flight home and get the hell out of here. We went to our room and the second we opened the door it absolutely stunk like smoke. It actually smelled like a bar at 2am. My husband has asthma and my two year old toddler was with us. The front desk only said - sorry we have no more rooms. Great customer service - NOT! Because we have a two year old, we go in early so we were forced to sit and try to relax ... Read more

We were really happy to get a room here during Thanksgiving week for a decent rate, given the location in downtown Charleston right across the street from the visitors center (with access to the free trolleys). King Street is just steps away. There's a lovely courtyard adjoining the pool area. The room was comfortable and clean, although I wish the franchise would spring for better towels and pillows. The staff were all friendly and helpful, gave us excellent advice for restaurants and such. ... Read more

I came to Charleston with my wife for a weekend get away. I booked late so almost everything else I looked at was full. I am a Hilton junkie so I took a chance on this hotel. It paid off. The location is great. It is a 15 min walk to the top of Market St and a 2 min walk to the Farmers Market. It is right next door to the Charleston Music Hall and some great restaurants and bakeries. The hotel staff is absolutely the friendliest and most helpful I have ever seen at a Hampton Inn. For th... Read more

We stayed at the Hampton Inn for two nights, 11/27-28/16, and found it to be most acceptable. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious, although it did lack a small frig. The complimentary breakfast was good considering it was buffet style offering varied choices. The Inn is conveniently located in the historic area across the street from the Visitor Center, the "free" Trolley and within walking distance of many attractions. Parking was available for a fee at the public garage adjacent t... Read more
