Beds were old and worn out. Door between bedroom and living area would not close. Door to bathroom always swung to the closed position. The whole place looked old with too many poor repairs. B'fast was good with good service. Came in one day to shower before dinner and had no hot water. Called front desk and all they said is they will call maintenance. No apology. Generally was not as good as I expected.

Old, historic hotel. Not well maintained. Would not recommend. Way overpriced. Fairly good location but at the far end of the historic area. Parking is about a block away and still $17/night. Did not enjoy the stay.

Hotel was very nice. Beautiful area inside to relax in. Evening reception was hectic and loud and should be held outside of lobby area. But a pleasant stay otherwise. Rooms were very clean and staff pleasant.

We enjoyed this hotel very much. It was within walking distance of great restaurants and sightseeing in the historic district. For the price, this was a bargain compared to many hotels in the vicinity. The breakfast selections were outstanding--made to order eggs, omelets, etc, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The evening reception was nice, and a nice way to take a break before heading out to dinner.

Our three nights and four days at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Historic Charleston could not have been better. The Mezzanine is sensational, the staff was very nice and very helpful. The breakfast the comes with the room can't be beat. I love Antiques and so the furniture, for me, was just right. The rooms were as updated and clean as could be expected in a Historic building. We were very happy. Hannah and Taeo went out of their way and helped us with some necessary tasks. The location was perfec... Read more

The front desk staff is very rude. However, this should be no reflection on the hotel as a whole. My stay was great after both me and my co-workers were checked in by different staff, both persons were exceptionally nasty and inappropriate. The rooms are nothing special but what is special is the stellar service you will receive at the breakfast service, from the bar and the valets. Everyone (minus the front desk staff) speaks each time you see them. For the high cost, one would expect a pleasa... Read more

My husband and I just came back from a 2-week vacation at this hotel. The Big Plus were: Hospitality, Great Breakfasts and Great Happy Hours!! And the staff was very friendly and attentive..Thank God! But the down side was the rooms! They do need a LIFT!! OMG and HOW!!! For instance our sofa was stained and the carpet was in need of replacement!!! We went through Three rooms to finally land in a " decent suite"!! A bit exhausting and frustrating when you pay top dollars !!

Stayed three nights and bed killed my back, but beyond that it looks like little has been added to this place to make it more enjoyable. Whoever the owner is needs to start fixing the rooms or they will be out of business soon. TV in bedroom did not work, microwave did not work, 3:30 arrives and we had to call front desk to get our room freshened. The Embassy Suites-Charleston Historic District is a very regal, well-appointed hotel in downtown Charleston SC. The hotel itself was the old, 19th Century campus for The Citadel, and is furnished with British plantation decor. The food/ambience/evening reception were all fantastic. This hotel is a Fraud. I like to stay in hotels that rate an exceptional star. I was tricked by those who rated this hotel exceptional. The facade of the hotel gives the appearance your entering a castle only to be greeted by a run down interior that needs to be restored. The front desk staff was great and courteous. This hotel is good to OK, it's a bit of a walk to the true historic district (or take the green line) but we wanted to stay here for the suites (we have kids) and the uniqueness of the building. In the end we weren't disappointed. The rooms are just okay, old thermostats, not the nicest. But we were won over by the staff and service. This hotel is located in the middle of Charleston, in what was the original Citadel building. I understand that it must be subject to some significant architectural restrictions, but it really could use some freshening up. The carpets are looking sad, the furniture in the rooms looks more than a bit old, and the snazzy 36-40 inch TVs look positively 1990. We have stayed at the Hampton Inn next door many times and found them to be of excellent quality. Our room at Embassy Suites was dirty, old and even had mold in the bathrooms. When I asked the front desk why the room was so bad, the response was that our room was typical for this property but they had gotten approval for a renovation later this year. This hotel is pretty darn run-down. I understand that it's a historic hotel, but this isn't the kind of "well preserved/ historic," old this is the "this place needs a serious face lift" old. We enjoyed seeing the preserved architecture of the original building but appreciated the modern amenities (like air conditioning). The location is great. Steps to King Street's dining and shopping, and a few minutes' walk to The Market and waterfront. Cooked-to-order breakfast and cocktail hour were great, as always.

Even though we have never been to this hotel before, the Staff at Embassy Suites in Charlestown South Carolina made us feel right at home and treated us like family. The breakfast was fantastic with a variety that would be difficult top and all included in your room cost. They advised us on sites, the mode of transportation that was suited to the weather and made sure we knew how to get around. Had a great time. Will stay there again when we return

Very, very nice hotel for the our family stay on this trip. Our suite faced the beautiful Marion park. The staff was excellent and knowledgeable with information of the surrounding areas to visit, restaurants to eat and tours to take. The breakfast was excellent and staff in charge were accommodating for the guests needs.

Housekeeping failed to empty trash, replace towels, and I had a Roach in the bathroom that crawled in the crack under the shower head. Housekeeping staff left the room doors slightly ajar - failed to close all the way.

The Embassy Suites in downtown Charleston is fantastic! The entire staff make you feel very welcome and the overall service is outstanding. Being an Embassy Suites, you get to enjoy the breakfast buffet along with the evening reception without any additional cost. The staff working for both events are excellent - they strive to meet your needs and are always very pleasant. The rooms are the usual suites and provide a very comfortable stay by providing more than just a bed! EXCELLENT HOTEL.

This is a historic hotel. I am not sure if that is why so many things are in disrepair or if they are building a new addition next door and if that is where there focus is currently. The first room we were given had a very strong mold odor. It was raining outside so I thought perhaps that was why. Within 10 minutes we noticed a leak and were back down at the front desk. They moved us to another room. This one had a toilet that didn't work properly. They sent someone to make a temporary repair to... Read more

Housekeeping needs improvement. Hair on the tile floor and debris on the carpet should have been vacuumed before we checked in. Breakfast was super as was the mgr cocktails. The valet parking was great.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites hotel in historic Charleston from 7/20-7/25. While the hotel concierge and reception desk staff were very good, I have to say that I was very disappointed with the housekeeping staff. Out of the 4 day stay, our room was only serviced two of those days. No make up of room, no fresh towels, no trash emptied. We spoke to a housekeeper one morning and were told that we were "not on her list" but someone else was coming down the hall the other way to service our roo... Read more

We had 9 guests staying in 3 different rooms. Overall, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone unless they were paying $85 a night. We paid over $200 a night. Pros- Wonderful breakfast buffet with a hot bar, fruit bar, cereal and grains bar, coffee bar, and made to order omelet station. The food was great and FREE!!! The evening Happy Hour was also great. The hotel concierge was great and very helpful in getting us taxis and excursions. Pool was small and about 90 degrees, so if you stay in ... Read more

The room we stayed in (two bed/two bath) was nice. But room wasn't cleaned the second day. However, once informed the staff brought up fresh towels and coffee very quickly. There were also ants in one of the bedrooms on the day we left. We left a note in the room telling the housekeeping, so they were hopefully taken care of before the next guests. Breakfast was lovely, the staff being very helpful and efficient.

The young lady at the checkout desk on Sunday did not have a clue, was uncaring, and completely insincere. We got there around 2:30 and she said the room was not ready. Several other guests were checking in at the same time and going straight to their rooms. This same lady at the check-in desk said our room would be ready at 3:00 PM so I said we would wait to bring our luggage in and we could still make our boat tour. At 3:30 PM our room had still not been touched the young person at the chec... Read more

Our family stayed here during the week and for the most part, I was happy with the hotel. Here are my main points. First, the PROS: - beds were comfortable, rooms were clean and large. - lobby was up-to-date - location was just walking distance to the action on King St. and Meeting St. - the offering of afternoon drinks and snacks was a pleasant bonus. CONS: - there are several hazards in this hotel due to its age. This hotel was converted from another use and I can see how. There are archw... Read more

Good location near downtown, lots of nearby restaurants and Saturday farmers market just outside the front door. Reception staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was disappointing - very crowded, not enough seating and food was just ok. The room itself wasn't very clean and beds not especially comfortable. We had a sofa bed but used it closed because the mattress was too thin to comfortably sleep on. Nice old building and inside courtyard but for the price I would expect a clean and well car... I would love to rate this hotel higher since the people who work here were all so nice and helpful, but there are just too many odd things about the hotel that make me rate it lower. I will just take it from when we drove up until we left. Pros: I can't say enough kind words about the valet service and all the hard working valets. It was very warm(of course it is August in SC) and they were constantly hustling and running for cars. Always smiling, always polite, always helpful. Front desk: Ch... Read more

A very nice hotel with the exception of construction noise throughout the night. We did not get a restful night's sleep on any of the days we were there. The staff seemed as if they could not do anything about it.

If you like dripping air conditioning vents and bugs the size of a small mouse in your bathroom crawling over things, then by all means stay at this hotel. Got out of there after one day and booked at a B and B like I should have in the first place. The only nice thing I can say is they were not jerks about letting us out of the rest of the reservation with no penalty charge.
