I gave this hotel five stars because it excels at what it is. An excellent value for the class. It is located in the old financial district adjacent to the down city campus of Johnson and Wales University, convenient to Brown, RISD and other schools that make Providence a major academic center as well as state and city government agencies. The hotel is within easy walking distance of several restaurants which with JWU School of Culinary Arts make Providence a culinary center... Read more

Providence is a multiple college town and 4 years ago we were welcomed into the Hampton Inn Downtown and have always stayed there! The staff is great, if something is within their power to accomplish then they do it. Like reselling our son's room when he was called back to work a day early and valet parking solves a problem, downtown parking.

This is truly one of the best Hampton Inns we have stayed at - great location, accommodations, service. Very near the Providence Performing Arts Center, and just a short walk to the Providence Place Mall and several wonderful restaurants. Valet parking was very courteous and prompt. We would definitely stay here again and will recommend it to friends.

This hotel was in a great location for Waterfire and Dinning near the river. The building it is not your typical Hampton Inn, it is in a restored classic building that was a bank and chapel. The inside has been restored to resemble the Hampton Inn. Staff was extremely helpful and assisting us with transportation for our dinner(they provided their shuttle). Great Choice for downtown providence

The good service and great location are the best things about this hotel. We came to town to visit Brown University. The hotel shuttle was right on time and waiting when our flight arrived. We had called ahead to reserve a ride, but it was great that it was ready and waiting for us on time! Only $10 round-trip!! Worth the price. Hotel is located right in the business district of the city within easy walking distance of an excellent mall, the Amtrack station, and Kennedy plaza where all the buses operate. It is a bit of an uphill hike to Brown but an easy walk to the East Side attractions across the river. Hotel itself is fairly typical of a Hampton. Not sure why front door is always locked. Very few restaurants nearby so plan on eating dinner before you arrive.

We chose to stay at this hotel in the middle of Providence because I thought it would be a great location for WaterFire. It ended up being a reasonable and excellent location for WaterFire but DownCity is unique. We're use to the 'hub' of cities being in the middle of downtown but there wasn't a lot of activity in the true downtown area of the city. On Friday night we walked to dinner and we only saw about 5 people on our 20 minute walk! However, we did not cross over into College Hill that nigh... Read more

First I have to say that the location of this hotel is great for those visiting Brown University. The walk to the university campus is 10 minutes and crosses the river. Also, the staff is very friendly and the hotel is kept very clean. The problem with our stay was the noise. This is a terrific hotel. The location is perfect, very central to everything in Providence. The facilities are very nice, and the staff is exceptional. Our room was very comfortable, but a bit noisy because we faced a parking garage with a lot of alarms going off throughout the day and night. We selected this hotel due to the great reviews, and we were not disappointed. I cannot say enough about the terrific staff, as they make this hotel a great one.

This may be my favorite Hampton Inn I have ever stayed at! The use of an old historic building made this truly unique. The rooms were spacious, clean and very well appointed. This hotel is rated as 3 star, but I would give it a higher rating. Part of the reason for the lower rating is the size of the lobby and not having a restaurant. These are very minor considerations. The hotel is a true architectural miracle. A bank built in 1920, then a church, it has been converted into a charming hotel in the Providence financial district. Smaller than most hotel rooms we've stayed in, but everything was comfortable and the location was great for walking to pretty much anything we were interested in. No mini-fridge in our room which we didn't realize until we got there, and no pool on property. However, the staff was very nice, the hotel was safe (had to use your room key to get into the building at night), and free breakfast was pretty good.

The hotel is a Hampton Inn in every way. The building is historic and the lobby is nice. Every other aspect looks, smells, feels, and tastes (breakfast) like a Hampton. Breakfast is included but the quality is lacking compared to other "budget" hotels I have stayed in. There are so many great coffee places in Providence - might as well spend $2-3 for a cup and not suffer through what they provide at the included breakfast. The location is great - convenient for College Hill and Downtown. If you ... Read more

If you have to visit this dreary post-industrial town, then why not stay at this dreary post-industrial hotel? A sad tower block in downtown with views of the nearby buildings, its small 1930s rooms only barely hold two queen-size beds, one of them jammed against the window. And how historically appropriate for the town that holds America's first Baptist church, for the downtown hotel to not have a bar? And given that the town also has America's second-oldest synagogue, it might not surprise you... Read more

This is a great hotel for the price. Wonderful downtown location - within walking distance to restaurants and theater. New and updated rooms, modern fitness center and a substantial free breakfast. The staff was also very friendly.

Nice property, buffet breakfast included, easy walk to most things downtown. In the old financial district, , use to be a bank building. Had a suite with seperate bedroom and sofa bed in the living room.

Really enjoyed this spot of Providence - Great historical building, but very clean and nice. Able to walk to just about anything I wanted or needed. The rooms and facilities were clean, nice, updated and the staff very friendly and helpful.

We were greeted by very unpleasant female receptionist. "What is your last name, do you have a Hilton number". Not what you want to get confronted with in a new town. Very poor public relations. But, very large suite though, good bed and separate lounge room, overlooking front street. Quiet pleasant. Hotel was fairly good value, except for arrival process. Breakfast was included, but very American with a lot of cardboard plates and cups. Tea and coffee available 24/7 in lobby breakfast area. N... Read more

Pros: - Location was within about a 30 minute walk of all attractions. - Clean room and lobby - Free breakfast. Not the best food I've had, but hey, it's free. There are a number of cafes and bakeries nearby if you'd like something a bit nicer. - Coffee, tea and juice available 24/7 in the lobby - Friendly staff - Quick valet service - Free wifi (that actually worked). Cons - Very uncomfortable bed. Really soft. Left both me and my husband with sore backs. - Very loud. You can hear everyth... Read more

The two room suite was lovely. Having two unique living spaces plus a kitchenette gave us a cozy living space. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty and there was no limit on the amount you could eat. Our ride on La Gondola was Thursday night with no rain. Our request for extra towels was met with no complaint. The location was fine for all the attractions.
