Very comfortable 4 night stay in this gracious and well located hotel in beautiful Newport. Clean and stylish it offers a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. The manager and almost all the staff were extremely professional and friendly, paying great attention to the small details. Excellent maid service. Only downside was the breakfast staff whom we found brash and amateur. One morning we had breakfast out just to avoid them. Such a shame. If not for this we would have easi... Read more

I looked at many hotels in Newport before settling on the Vanderbilt Grace for what seemed like spacious rooms, great reviews, and great location. Here's what I found: The rooms are lovely. We had a loft suite, which came with an upstairs loft (King bed), a downstairs room with a day bed, and a sofa bed pullout. Lots of space, 1.5 bathrooms. Anything else I looked at for a family of five was either much smaller or more expensive. I thought it was a good value, not great necessarily -- payi... Read more

In over fifty years of travel in the United States I cannot remember any hotel in which my wife and I were treated as well as we were in the past week in a three-day stay at the Vanderbilt Grace. From the minute we arrived, we were treated with glasses of champagne, our luggage was taken care of with great courtesy, and the room itself was spacious, well-appointed and beautifully done. There was a nice selection of books in the bookcase under the television in the room -- mysteries, Japanese poe... Read more

My Wife and I stayed at VG for a company event in Newport. Service is outstanding, rooms were well thought out and large (bathroom was a bit small). We had breakfast and I had probably the best corn-beef hash I ever tasted. Homemade no doubt. My Wife is still talking about it...and she is usually tough on Hotels. Kudos VG!

According to the reviews I read on Trip Advisor, you'd think this is a Ritz Carlton. My experience was far different. The hotel, itself,is well located and quaint, But I found the staff, all of who seemed to be 17 years old, to be utterly clueless. My first room, 208, was closet sized without so much as even a chair to sit on. But my wife and I took the room...bad move. We like to sleep with the windows open and we were serenaded all night by cats in heat plus church bells on the hour. This added... Read more

Recently stayed at the Vanderbilt Grace as part of a business meeting and from the moment we checked in it was obvious that I was staying somewhere special. After a very tiresome drive out from Boston (with jet lag) the young lady at reception - ever so discreetly informed me that the label was out on my jeans. :-) We had a drinks reception in the garden room and the breakfast menu was prefect with service of the highest standards. We liked the Vanderbilt Grace, but we didn‚??t love it. The hotel is well located and the property is very pretty, but the service standards and value for cost were disappointing. The hotel is located a block from Thames Street shopping and a short walk to the harbor area. Also nearby is Washington Square, the Touro Synagogue and Trinity Church. The roof deck has a terrific view of the Pell Bridge and sunset. We liked our Junior Suite, but its location next to the elevator (literally) meant ... Read more

We were invited to a wedding in Newport, and took the opportunity to make it a weekend. The great reviews for this hotel made us glad we got a room. Our stay was special from the start - with the warm embrace of the valet staff, the offered glass of champagne, the friendly reception, with ready recommendations for dinner. The building is historic and beautiful, and comes with a great story of the Vanderbilt family, love and scandal. The staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was pl... Read more

I really liked the quaint old place but there were so many issues that nobody could address. First of I stayed in the presidential suite which was nice and spacious but the AC didn't work and I had to ask several people to help fix it and they never did. As a former Newport resident I remember this building, despite its grand lineage, being a homeless shelter or something like that. Riches to rags. Now back to riches! Superb service, always there, always on it, never intrusive. Very comfortable rooms, combination of quaint and modern. We went to Vanderbilt Grace for the rooftop bar. The hotel and restaurant look appealing, and only a block off the harbor, but the bar it was. Great view of the city. Not a large selection of beers and cocktails, but it is the view that is the attraction. Drinks were not cheap ($16.00), but get a shandy ($7) if that will help. Great place that opens at 4 pm. Small parking lot so yo will have to find on street parking or in the public parking lot a block away. Worth a look!!

Fabulous stay, amazing attentive staff, great rooftop bar and al fresco dining along with a small but wonderful spa! The hotel is centrally located and close to all Newport has to offer. Dog friendly was the selling point as this was a last minute mini vacation with my pup Brooklyn, and one can imagine my surprise when the waiter asked me if I wanted to see the dinner menu for my pup! Really? Yes really! Thank you Vanderbilt Grace! We truly had an amazing stay and we can't wait to come back!

The Grace advertises both a "tea" and "high tea". I thought that would be great after checking out some of the cottages. Made the reservation the day before and arrived with high expectations. Not so much. My advice - bring your own tea bag because that is all they offer for tea. A teapot with (I presume hot water - at what temperature I don't know) and a box that has some tea bags in it. When I asked why they weren't preparing/steeping the tea before bringing to the customer the answer... Read more

Newport is a bustling place with lots of places to visit and to eat. We arrived quite tired after a long drive from Lenox. The valet parked our car and organised the baggage for us. We were early and our room was not ready but that was no problem for us as we just booked in and happily went off to explore and have some lunch. We had a suite which was really comfortable with added nice touches like lavender oils and cookies at bedtime! There was a well stocked mini bar and the bed was super comfo... Read more

As part of our New England tour we included a three day stop-over in Newport Rhode Island. I worked hard to find the right hotel, given that our favoured Leading Hotels group doesn't have a property to offer in Newport. My wife and I prefer period properties to modern "plastic" affairs and location is always key, as we prefer to walk everywhere if possible. In these two respects the Vanderbilt Grace ticks all the boxes. As one of the later Mansions of the Gilded Age, built by one of the Vanderbi... Read more

I had high expectations when I checked into the Vanderbilt Grace hotel in Newport. And in spite of minor faults in the hotel 's infrastructure, I was not disappointed. The hotel is located in the middle of the city, a colonial gem in the state of Rhode Island. The staff is cordial and disposed to help the guests in whatever may be needed. I would like to give a special mention to the young men who are in charge of valet parking. They are very courteous and always helpful with advise on what to s... Read more

A quiet and quaint Grand Mansion. Small but extremely well appointed rooms. Dedicated and wonderfully genuine service. Breakfast is a wonderful experience and a great way to begin the day at the Vanderbilt Grace.

This hotel is right in the heart of Newport-literally minutes from the restaurants and shopping. Staff is very friendly and helpful and on point. We stayed in the master junior suite which was a beautiful room. In fact, more roomy that it appears on their website. Very clean with 2 beautiful bathrooms. My husband thought the shower was a 5 star. The hotel as a whole is beautiful. We just had 2 issues: one being the air quality in the room. Not sure if it was the heating system or the ro... Loved this hotel. Was one of 5 hotels we stayed at in a road trip over New England and this was our favourite. Fantastically friendly and helpful staff in a brilliantly appointed hotel. Right in the centre of Newport so a great spot for exploring his great little town. Has a great roof terrace for enjoying a sundowner overlooking the harbour and there is an ace snooker room too. Rooms we're super spacious, we had a double suite with a divinely comfortable bed and a really top rate finish to ... Read more

My wife and I stayed here for 8 nights and could not have enjoyed our stayed anymore. Location is the best and hotel was as good as it gets. We're exp travelers and have stayed at Mandarin Orientals, Langham in Chicago, etc. This is right there with them as far as luxury. But the staff is where they really stand out. Thanks to Paul, Marco, Kevin and especially Karla for everything!

My husband and I booked our three day wedding celebration at the Vanderbilt Grace. We searched throughout New England for the perfect venue - a historic, inviting, intimate hotel that could accommodate 50 of our closest friends and family. We immediately fell in love with the Vanderbilt Grace when we visited for the first time in the Spring of 2016. Earlier this month (Nov 2016), the hotel and its entire staff delivered the most beautiful experience for our guests and accommodated us at every ... Read more
