Love the location of this Hotel real close to Carson street restaurants. Was there a few years back and had no problems but this time in my opinion it had Housekeeping issues, no cups for coffee in room, no tea bags, no bath mat, shampoo bottle was half full, bedside table was very dirty with rings from a previous glass or cup. Mentioned it to the front desk person but did not get a very pleasing reply, not bad but was excepting more. I will be back in November and hopefully it was just a one ti... Read more

Convenient location but desk staff seemed indifferent and barely made eye contact. The housekeeping staff were pleasant and helpful. The staff at the desk might want to learn from housekeeping how to create an atmosphere of hospitality. Clean.

The hotel is very great as it is very clean and comfortable. It's also pretty close to the city center as you can reach it by a 20 minutes walk. The only thing that was disapointing is that when we woke up at 9:30 (the breakfast is served until 10h) there was pretty much nothing left but fruits and oatmeal... So we end up going somewhere else to eat even though the breakfast was free at the hotel.

Stayed there for 5 nights. Different rates per night, top rate was $379. Housekeeping didn't come at all one day, all other days the bed was made but nothing more: bath not cleaned, I found a hairpin directly in front of the bed and bits of cheese from the microwave pizza I ate the first evening stayed in the sink until I left. Will not chose this hotel again.

Very nice, clean, comfortable hotel in the middle of the city. good breakfast. pool and fitness center. Friendly staff. Parking was extra, but it was close to the entrance. Room was very comfortable with microwave and refrigerator. Pittsburgh is a great city too.

I stayed here for a few days in April. This was such a convenient location for the various business activities and sight seeing that I wanted to do. The shuttle driver was able to take us down to the incline and to station square / entrance to the gateway clipper. It was a short lyft to Oakland and museums. The rooms were large. I appreciated the fridge / microwave combo as I had many leftovers. I would absolutely consider staying here again.

Hotel is convenient to both downtown and nightlife. There's a free shuttle that will take you nearby places like Southside Works. There is a fee to park overnight, but the parking lot itself is good because it is gated and secure.

My wife stayed at this hotel for a bachelorette party at the end of June. While there, the A/C was not working. Upon several calls to the front desk, someone finally came to check the unit out to simply tell them that they would look into it but it didn't seem to be working right, but they may be able to move them to another room. Several hours later, nothing had occurred and they were forced to make another call to the front desk. This time another worker came to the room to, again tell the... Read more

Stayed here for a concert at PNC park. Hotel was quiet, big plus in my book, trains aren't their fault! Room was large, clean, and had a nice sized bathroom with a large sink and vanity mirror. Adjustable height and spray functions on shower head was a welcome touch. Breakfast in the AM was hot, fresh, and great coffee. Very close to town, shuttle driver was very informative and fast. Told us where to go when we were dropped off, told us where to look for him again. My one nit-pick is thi... Read more

Pros: comfortable bed and nice-ish clean rooms. Nice showers and a convenient location. CONS: We stayed over for a weekend and it was full of weddings and graduations and all that. The noise from other guests was not an issue but the noise from the highway is *far* too loud to sleep. My dad did not sleep at all. I was given earplugs but when my dad asked for some the staff was not aware they had any and told him there was nothing they could do. Seems like they would have figured out that h... Read more

Landed this hotel on a Hotwire deal. Everything was great so we added a second night. If you get a room number ending in *01 it's a great corner unit and has a window and side window making it nice and open. Yes there are trains at night but it's a bustling city :)

My boyfriend and I decided to stay here for 4th of July weekend, and overall it was a great stay. Check-in was super easy and fast. Parking is $14 a night which kind of stinks but it is less expensive than other hotels in the area. They don't tell you that there is a fee; I only knew from reading reviews online so beware of that. I had no problem with the parking lot. You use your room key to get through the gate and there were plenty of spaces when we were there. The room was very clean... Read more

Got this hotel for July 4th so we could enjoy Pittsburgh without worrying about the hour drive home. The people at the desk for check in were lovely and helpful. Parking right on site is worth the $14 because there's nowhere else to park in the area. We got a king bed room and it was amazing! The room was huge and had a large sitting area, fridge, microwave, and sink. The bathroom was nice and no issues with the shower. The toiletries are bath and body works which I loved but there was no bar so... Read more

I was so excited to get in the room as I had taken my boyfriend for his first time trip to Pittsburgh. When we got in the room it was beautiful! Then it was problem after problem. We got in the shower and to our surprise when getting out there were no towels in the room except for handtowels. So we had to dry off with them. As we were drying off we notice a stain on the towel! The wi-fi did not work at all in the corner room. We called down and talked to Paul to tell him about having no towels,... Read more

This location as far as looks was on par with most HIEX I have stayed at in the past. The property was well maintained. They offer breakfast and parking was $14 for the night we stayed. The beds and pillows as always were very comfortable. The only downsides of this location was room cleanliness and breakfast. When we arrived there was urine in the toilet and long, red hair all over the pillows on one of the beds. Breakfast items were not well stocked and often empty. I still will use HIEX often... We enjoyed this hotel. I liked the modern look of the hotel and lobby. The kids used the pool and gym and indicated both were clean. Room was very clean, although the remote in the room was not functioning very well. The bathroom had only two towels so we had to ask for additional towels because we had two adults and one child. The bed was comfortable and the free breakfast was on par with other Holiday Inn Express locations. The location was very convenient in South Pittsburgh. Be advise... Read more

This hotel is in a great location on the south side of Pittsburgh. The rooms are clean and well presented. Check in was pleasant and professional. That's the good! The bad - during check in we were told that we had a room with 2 queen beds; our room had 1 king and a pull out sofa - no big deal! We were also told that we could be shuttled anywhere within a 2 mile radius. When we inquired we were told that the shuttle was in the shop. Ok, again, no big deal. Now for the worst app... Read more

We stayed at the Southside HI Express in Pittsburgh from July 7 through 10th while attending a family wedding. We booked our 2 adjoining suites at the beginning of May, in the block reserved for wedding guests. Reservations through the hotel were not the greatest, but not the worst we've experienced. When we wised up and dealt exclusively with Kyla (the person in charge of special events bookings), she was able to look up the wedding rate ($179 per night, vs the 249 I was quoted by the front... Our room was clean and a nice size. The location is really great. We were looking for a room for one night, not in downtown, so that we could catch an early train at the Amtrak station. Our room, however, was right at the front (210) on the second floor. It was bright all night with traffic and flashing lights. There are no drapes on the window for shutting out the lights. The biggest problem with the room was a heavy smell of something like disinfectant, really very strong. We would have asked ... Read more

We've been traveling for about a month now so I'm just getting around to reviewing this hotel! We had a very easy check in when we arrived and the front desk staff was very accommodating of us! We loved every part of our room and every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly. The only problem we had was slow internet access! We will definitely be returning!

Hotel is just across the river from downtown, in the funky Southside neighborhood. It took us only a few minutes to get to different attractions: Station Square, Warhol museum, Strip District. My room was clean and spacious. The breakfast buffet was good. The staff was friendly. I'd stay here again.

The hotel staff, other than the manager, were very welcoming, courteous and willing to make sure our stay was the best. However, when we first got into our room I noticed that the room (that slept 4) only had 2 towels. I also noticed that the fridge was not cold. I called the front desk and asked for more towels. Positives: hotel location right on the edge of Southside, so easy walking access to many of the bars, restaurants and clubs on Carson St and also good for visiting local colleges. Room was modern with plenty of space, nice color palette and good lighting. Decent coffee and nice cinnamon buns at breakfast. K-cup maker in room (but no sugar or creamer). Beds are soft (not firm). Linens and housekeeping were great. Negatives: parking is an extra $14, which allows you to park in the fenced lot ... Read more

First, we checked into a room where the AC was clearly not working on a 90-degree day. The cordial staff seemed more convinced that I was not working the simple machinery correctly as opposed to offering alternatives. I went to Carson St. and returned three hours later. In addition to returning to a jungle heat, the smell from a what I believe was a dirty filter, was unbearable. I went back downstairs and luckily they had another room to try. Stayed one night for Pirates game at PNC. Hotwire lists this as a "downtown" hotel. No way! It's on the South Side way over near the Carson St. strip of bars/restaurants/clubs. It was a long, hot hike to downtown and then over to PNC. Good things: spacious room w/ king bed, sitting chair, small sofa, coffee table, coffees maker, fridge/wet bar (no micro), good TV, good breakfast, comp Post-Gazzette newspaper. The hotel is located perfectly for access to the city and going to steeler or pirate games. The bridge makes a nice walk in the morning for exercise. Our room was beautifully decorated and furnished. Our room was on the sixth floor and very quiet. We faced the street and there was some street noise but not much. Would definitely stay here again! A couple issues at the hotel appear to be management related. The breakfast was probably the worst I've ever seen at a Holiday Inn. They were out... Read more

I've stayed here before. It's clean and very functional, especially for the price (they were having a last minute special). One positive is that I'm very aware of noise and my room was quiet. As an example, the room next to me had noise coming out the door that I could hear as I passed it to reach my room. Although my door was right next to this door, when I was in my room I heard nothing. In other hotel/motels that I've stayed at, the walls are paper thin. On the negative, the rugs in the room... This hotel has a great location in reference to downtown Pittsburgh, but is in desperate need of room renovations. After signing a "no smoking" policy at check-in, the first room I was given smelled like someone had just smoked a cigarette in there a few hours before my arrival.
