I usually stay at Marriott hotels, but tried this one, and was pleasantly surprised, the rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel is within walking distance downtown. The price was reasonable too. The hotel was under construction, putting in a Ruth Chris; which will be nice. The only issue I had was I checked out and later noticed they added $8 for two water bottles to my bill; it was not clearly marked in room that these were additional charge. Usually hotels state $4.00 for bottle. I had u... Read more

I was in overnight for a business event, and the room was average sized, and was nicely decorated. It's located in downtown Philly (my hometown) so it isn't far off from Old City. There are a TON of excellent places to eat, so you will not need the room service. What you will need is a great location with a short drive to the airport, is close to tourist areas, and is close to great restaurants with a very clean, comfortable, and modern room waiting for you.

We stayed one weeknight in May, booking through Expedia. Check-in was efficient, our room with two queen beds was clean and well laid out, with plenty of space. Room service was fast, friendly and satisfactory. The lobby bar is good, low key and not overpriced. We looked over the rooftop pool, closed pre-season but looks like it will be nice in summer.

Landed this hotel through a Hotwire special rate deal. It's a bit farther west than I usually stay but it's pretty much right on Market street so moving around is about as straight forward as it gets. Early check-in was no problem. Good service pretty much all around. There's an interesting bar/cafe on the ground floor or at least it looked to be more interesting than most hotel bars. Honestly it's pretty close to a 4-star but a few things get lost in the details. Little things like the r... Read more

Really arty, comfortable hotel right in the heart of Philly. All good about this hotel and highly recommended. Enjoyable and we could take advantage of good music too downstairs. Helpful staff, especially the bell staff, quite an entertaining character.

I highly recommend this hotel for it's location, cleanliness, friendly and helpful staff, and price. We really enjoyed our stay here as it was our first stay at a Sonesta property. The only thing I would not recommend is the food. However, there are so many food choices in Philly that, for us, it didn't matter and did not distract from a very enjoyable stay.

My boyfriend and I tend to spend at least one night a year in Philadelphia as a mini-vacation for ourselves while visiting his parents who live nearby. Historically, we have chosen a different hotel each time, but that has changed; we will now plan to stay exclusively at Sonesta due to the exceptional hospitality encountered. Our pleasant experience began the morning of our check-in, when I called to inquire as to whether or not we could change our reservation to the overnight package ‚?? to in... Read more

We stayed at this hotel when we visited CHOP. The only negative was that the room was tiny, but we were only staying one night. I would recommend a club level room, the lounge made it worth the stay. My son swam in the pool, which was clean and there were plenty of towels. I felt safe and the staff was helpful. It was only a ten minute drive to CHOP, an easy drive. It is only a couple of blocks from the Comcast center and City Hall.

I chose this hotel as I was asked to attend a conference being held in it. I booked using the conference rate. I was given Room 2527 which is the corner room on the top floor. It was a very cozy room; European-small but very well appointed with a super comfortable bed and pillows, desk, dresser, small but modern bathroom, mini-fridge and an ottoman posing as a guest chair. I liked the room very much for (1) being sort of private and having 1 1/2 walls of glass and (2) for feeling like a tr... Read more

The reception staff all tried very hard although they perhaps weren't as knowledgeable about their own city as you would have thought. However, they all tried hard. The room was really good, clean and tidy. Easy to find and an easy walk from the station (which we used) and not too far from the centre of town ..... a little bit further to the piers but not a terrible walk. I have stayed in a number of downtown Philadelphia hotels over the past few years, and I would choose to stay elsewhere for a number of reasons. The Sonesta is marketed as an upscale hotel, and the rooms are nice, but I did not feel it worth the price. The corridors were quite loud -- there was a large group traveling internationally the next day that caused some of this -- the meeting facilities small, and the then there was the parking situation. I unexpectedly needed a hotel and booked my reservation on the same day. The reservation process was easy. We found the hotel easily. We checked in really late, around 2:30am. The front desk agent was friendly and checked us in quickly. She offered a late check out without me asking and gave us a top floor room. The room smelled great and was clean. I had a corner room with a king bed. The bed was nice, the pillows were not supportive enough. Digital cable using coax meant artifacting if a fly sneezed on the cable. Warm showers, middling water pressure. A large gap at the base of the door meant I had to use a towel to keep out the hallway light. I could hear everything that happened in the hallway, but not from other rooms (so, bonus?). After maid service, the room was neat. The wifi was inconsistent, and you have to renew your lease... The staff was very nice, in fact when they heard it was my birthday. I got complimentary room service and even a sweet card from the staff. The hotel was very clean, even when you walked in the door there was a nice smell to the lobby. It was comfortable and relaxing, I would definitely stay again. The only thing I wished was different was that the pool was all night or opened longer so my friends who came late could've swam.

Super impressed with everyone at this hotel. Front desk was wonderful, bell hops great, and super valet service. Room was clean and got extra towels quickly and with a smile! A few people asked us if we were from the South and laughed because we just said thank you to everything, but everyone at this hotel could fit the "southern stereotype." Have stayed here 4 times since its renovation/opening. Best part is that the staff, good to start with, seem to have reached the level of customer service many of us appreciate - seem genuinely interested in helping, and the guest is not an inconvenience. Valet was really bad, they would take sometimes 20 min and nobody else was in line to get their car, other times they were bringing the wrong cars out and honking at customers waiting telling them to get the car and the customer kept telling them they had the wrong car. Very scary when the cars they were bringing were Mercedes and BMW.. The pool closes early so you don't get the best bang for your buck and the lobby is pretty much non existent. I was there for a single night for business. Very good night sleep. Isolated from noise. Very comfortable bed. Rooms are a bit smaller than the usual size rooms in Center City Philadelphia, but the price reflects it. A very positive experience staying at the Sonesta. The bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. Rooms are a little smaller than average, but nicely modern and updated. At all levels, the staff always said hello and were happy to converse. On-site dining options are limited, but there are plenty of eating options nearby. Overall, a very nice hotel with a warm and accommodating staff.

ROOM NOT MADE UP! We left this morning at 10:30 a.m., returned at 5 p.m. You would think after 6-plus hours you'd come back to a made bed, some fresh towels and a nicely refreshed room- NOPE! After walking around Philly in 90 degree heat and getting rained on, we had to use the same towels as our morning shower. As I write this, I am sitting in our unmade bed. We travel a lot and this never happens. Totally unacceptable. Also, room service ends at 11? Really??

Had I not gone into this situation expecting four-star accommodations, I would have been satisfied. However, the Philadelphia Sonesta bills itself as a luxury hotel, and there was nothing luxurious about it. At best, it was a budget motel with good housekeeping (room was pretty clean, and we tipped accordingly). At worst, it was a scam for which the hotel paid off people for all these good reviews. I really appreciated the large containers of shampoo, conditioner, body wash (I get so tired of those little bottles in most hotels, not to mention how bad they are for the environment!). I immediately got into the elevator, went to the front desk, and let them know the situation. To their credit, they looked pained and were very apologetic. The head housekeeper for my floor stopped by, ... Read more

This turned out to be a wonderful experience. The hotels location is ideal, within easy walking distances to most major attractions & transportation (20 minutes from the airport by SEPTA Rail). Great restaurant in-house & surrounded by local eateries. Staff was exceptional & very helpful throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel for business or pleasure.

Hosted a conference event at the Sonesta hotel in downtown Philadelphia. It was a 3 day event. - The service was great - everyone I ran into was very friendly and accommodating. - The food provided was good, always on time and was checked on by staff frequently. - When choosing the meals to have at the conference, the hotel made it easy by offering themed meal offerings or you can choose a la carte. I chose the themed meals and conference attendees seemed satisfied with the food choices ... Read more

I stayed here during the Rock and Roll Race weekend. It is a really pretty hotel and in a great location. The amenities are on point, really cool, now when it comes to service, well that's where the hotel felt short. I tried 3 times to get a later check in and the first 2 times I got the same answer (rudely may I add), "no, you have to call the day you check out in the morning". The third time I asked, I got a yes followed by "a what time do you want to check out". I said it is possible to check... Read more

Fran- the concierge at Sonesta - is a true professional. She is one of the best concierges we have met. She had great advice- knew all the contacts very well - even had a free gelato flight arranged for us at her great restaurant recommendation. Little things like that go a long way with the kids in making a memorable night. She remembered all our names and daily gave us ideas and recommendations to make our trip fun. Thanks Fran!

This hotel offers a great value. We needed a central, comfortable, clean and safe place to stay and this hotel was great for that! We went out to eat in Rittenhouse Square, Reading Terminal Market and Center City. We walked to all of those places as well as the Academy of Natural Sciences. This hotel had a quick and friendly check in/out front desk. They graciously held our luggage after we checked out. We had taken the train from the airport ($8 pp) and got off 1 block from the hotel at ... Read more

I stayed for one night on business when the conference hotel was overbooked. Got in fairly late, only to be awakened around 2am by very loud mechanical humming above bed. Woke me up twice more during course of night. In the morning I was told I should have called in the middle of the night to switch rooms and offered a free coffee. No thanks on both counts. To be fair, a manager did contact me afterwards to apologize, which was appreciated. However, when I pay $252 per night in a second-tier cit... Read more

The staff and the hotel were great, very helpful and went out of their way to assist. The room was clean and well presented, however having an extractor fan outside the window did not make for a good nights sleep, the only other minor niggle was the fact if u forgot your key because you were sharing a room you couldn't get up in the lift as it was key activated.

We had tickets for Eastern state penitentiary, terror behind the walls and decided to just stay in philly for the night. We picked this place based on the reviews regarding the location and we were not let down. This hotel is in the middle of it, we were able to walk to just about any kind of restaurant as well as plenty of shopping options! Doesn't hurt there's a Ruth Chris on premise but make sure you make a reservation for the restaurant!

I was able to get a great rate that was much less than other hotels in the downtown area, so I thought it was a great value. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and functional. I'd never visited Philadelphia before and, after having 2 Airbnb bookings fall through, the second of which was about 3 weeks before we were due to fly, I decided to jump online and take a look at hotels. I'll be honest, we booked the Sonesta purely based on price at that stage. It wasn't necessarily the cheapest but it wasn't far off and it was based in the Midtown area of Philadelphia which worked perfectly for our short stay.
