I first stayed at the Hotel Monaco a few years ago for a conference. I was delighted to find at that the conference was to be held there again this spring. As soon as I confirmed my reservation I requested my companion goldfish, which were waiting for me when I checked in. Also, I don't drink coffee so the front desk staff arranged for an electric tea kettle set up in my room. The conference rooms are well suited for the conferences. The breakfasts, lunches and snacks were healthy as well... Read more

I stayed recently at the Hotel Monaco in Portland. It is an eclectically designed re-engineered building. The room was very nice and thankfully on the quiet side of the building. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Morning coffee was ready early and tasted great. The doormen were very helpful. My favorite hotel in Portland.

If you have a room facing the inside it is a great hotel. However, if you are on the street side there is a lot of noise. If you can book in advance and get a room away from the notice, it is a great hotel with wonderful staff. The restaurant menu was limited but the food and staff were both excellent.

This hotel is located in a very good spot in downtown Portland. It is right on the Max line for easy access and they have a Manager's beer and wine hour in the early evening. The room was comfortable but just about everything had a price tag on it. A stuffed toy was $32.00, the bathrobe was astronomically priced and it seemed like every time I turned around there was another price tag. They had one of the best stocked honor bars I have seen but when I opened the door to that fridge about 10 ... Read more

Great experience on couples get-away weekend in Portland. Excellent location, within walking distance of shopping & restaurants. Loved the free coffee in the mornings and drinks in the evening. Room was small but comfortable; street noise was not an issue. Exercise facility is adequate. Only critique is that parking was 41$ a night, which seems excessive even for a great 5* hotel. You can park within 1-2 blocks for 10-15$ a night and walk there.

We had a weekend getaway to Portland and we stayed at the Hotel Monaco. We stayed there on our last trip to Portland 7 years ago - and we were thrilled we chose to stay there again. They upgraded us to a great room - a really nice king suite. The room was calm and cool amidst the chaos of Portland! Fashionable, funky, and fun - great place to come back to after a day or evening out and about. Great service, fantastic location. Tons of great places to check out on foot nearby - and central ... We've stayed in a few Kimpton hotels and I am a member of their rewards program, so I was hoping that my request of a quiet room on a higher floor would be accommodated. We ended up on the 5th floor facing the busy street, which at the weekend was loud until the early hours of the morning, which was a shame. Aside from that the rooms are a good size and the decor is very unusual. Free coffee in the morning was a plus, with a nice area to sit in and relax. The bathrooms appear a little dated an... It was such a package - location, amenities and design of the room and many many more things! I was so surprised by this unique boutique hotel and what it could offer to people who stay there. We were greeted by corteous bell men and front desk staff everytime. Surprised how they have a director in pet relations (Dakota is such a cutie!). The location is so central you don't need to drive at all in downtown. Everything is within 5 to 10 minute walk and we absolutely loved our room. The only down... Read more

We spent the holiday in this lovely hotel in downtown Portland. The hotel is beautiful and immaculate. The service was really what set it apart. Each time we entered we were treated like old friends. The nightly happy hours, which welcomed guests with pets were a true treat. What really impressed is was the special treatment my mother got who came down with the flu during our stay. We rang down to ask for an extra cleaning and explained what was going on. They swooped in immediately with an extr... Read more

We traveled here for an anniversary get-away in June 2016. I'm a Kimpton Karma member, and I will stay with Kimpton properties in any city I go to. They go above and beyond for their guests' needs. We traveled on National Donut day - which wouldn't be a big deal anywhere other than the home of Voodoo Donuts. We unfortunately were stopped on the freeway for 5 hours longer than anticipated, and missed our favorite part of staying at the Kimpton properties - the happy hour. I noticed the Hotel... Read more

We stayed here for a long weekend and enjoyed our stay at the hotel. It is centrally located, the rooms are pretty decent and the free wifi was excellent. The hotel also hosts happy hours in the afternoons with wine and beer and I thought that was a nice touch where you get a chance to mingle with the other guests. The only service nit was during checkin when were told that our room wasn't ready yet and they would call us as soon as it was done. We decided to walk around for a couple of hour... Read more

This hotel has definitely got a personality. We were greeted at check in with local ice cream sandwiches. Happy hour every night! Coffee every morning. Love that they had iced coffee as an option! Very centrally located. Parking is a bit of a pain in their underground garage. Room was funky and clean. Hotel is definitely older and could use a little more sprucing up! Staff was amazing!

If you like a beige, sedate, and predictable place, then the Hotel Monaco is definitely not for you! It's great whimsical, yet classic, interior is awash with patterns and colors. Our room alone had 6 different patterns and 4 styles of furniture, The elevator lobby has one of the coolest purple couches that I have ever seen! Hotel Monaco in Portland is exactly as cool and quirky as you would expect, and twice as friendly. The evening reception, free morning coffee and complimentary bicycles are all excellent touches. The Monaco King Suite was huge and comfortable. The Red Star Tavern is an excellent choice for any meal, especially breakfast and happy hour. And the Monaco is a huge bargain if you stay off-peak months.

I stayed here for convenience of location but I love this hotel. The people are amazing and the hotel is so cool. I have stayed in a lot of Kimpton's and this is one of the best. I loved the touch of the bear on my bed. Every employee I encountered was great and a really good value for what you get. Another business partner also stayed her and loved it also.

We liked the modern decor here, but when we walked down the hallway to our room, we were hit by a strong smell. The hotel makes a big deal of being dog-friendly; maybe that was the explanation. It smelled kind of like pot too. Whatever it was, we kept on smelling it over the three nights we were there. The room was nice otherwise. But we had a much better experience at Hotel Vintage, another Kimpton hotel nearby.

This is a unique hotel. Quirky, clean and comfy room. Not my taste in decor, however I enjoyed it! The bathroom was huge, lots of counter space and a makeup mirror. I didn't try on the animal print robe, but nice touch :) The bed was comfy. I stayed here for a business conference, so all of our meals were served in the meeting rooms.
