Room had nasty odor! Bedding was nothing like the picture. My daughter saw two bugs figured out they were bed bugs after realizing I was bit the next day!! Called manger to complain ...said he would check it out but didn't seem to concerned! Luckily we only had to stay for one night .Will never stay here again. My fault for not reading previous reviews!!Please read reviews!!

The room was dingy and very outdated. The "clean" bath towels had hair on them. The internet did not work. My boyfriend and I stayed the night and I did not feel safe or comfortable most of the time. Should've found a different hotel for the night.

I drove to Wilmington, NC to visit with an old High School classmate. I stopped at the Howard Johnson Holel on Market Street, I liked the room and the price and checked in. As my friend was coming to the hotel for our visit, I needed a place to sit and talk with him and the hotel manager was kind enough to provide a couple of chairs from one on their rooms. When my friend arrived, we spent a couple of hours relaxing and sitting in the warm evening air and talking about family, friends and th... Read more

We come to Wilmington a lot for volleyball. We will be not staying here again. The rooms looked like they were updated but there were no hot showers. I was told Saturday we would have hot water Sunday. We did not. This is very unsanitary. If I knew this I would have went camping and saved some money. When I approached I am assuming the manager he seemed like he didn't really care other than the fact he was worried about him paying money to fix the problem.

I needed a place to sleep and grab breakfast on this leg of my trip. I thought this hotel would be adequate but I was wrong. Housekeeping did not turn the fan on before my arrive resulting in me walking in to a hot, stifling room. The shower looked filthy but it was just missing paint from several areas. The shower curtain did not fit correctly resulting in a huge puddle on the floor. The bed was uncomfortable. The next morning I went to the breakfast room to grab something before I continued my... I had a reservation for 3 adults 1 night. The website advertises the room as "Can fit up to 5 people", which means there are two double beds for four people, plus a couch of some kind of accommodation for the 5th person. Since we were three male adults, we were counting on two beds and a couch, or a pull over bed or something. At check in, the manager said they cannot give us a pull over bed because house keeping leaves at 5PM, and it was 7PM, so nothing he can do and that it was our responsibil... Read more

The hotel was dirty, vent looked like it the filter had not been changed in years, the tub was dirty and the front desk was rude. I took my angels to the beach and the bathroom floor was a little sandy. Instead of cleaning the room and the bathroom the housekeeper swept the sand out of the bathroom onto the carpet and left it. The sink looked as if someone had spilt orange soda in it and left it to dry. I had to ask about the WiFi and the breakfast. There was no hot food items on the breakf... Read more

You get what you pay for. Cheap? Yes. Clean? No. Safe? No. At least they have flatscreen TVs. The walls/baseboards were scuffed and worn. Fixtures were hanging on my a thread. The towels were just thrown on the counter, not in the rack in a uniform way. The comforter had a nasty stain. Breakfast was a joke. I show up an hour into breakfast to find 4 bagels, 5 muffins, and milk. I will never stay at another HoJo again.

We went to the beach on Fathers day weekend (June 18, 2016) and could not find a hotel, so I called Hotels.com and they found a room at Howard Johnson Express Inn in Wilmington. We got in to the hotel around 9 pm, went to room 312, which the deadbolt did not work, went into the bathroom and the toilet seat had dried urine on it. When I called to complain, the lady at the desk told me nothing could be done until housekeeping came in, when I asked when that would be (knowing in the AM) she did not... Read more

The manager refused to accept the 25$ off gift card notated in the reservation. Then the next day because he didn't accept it, I had to put money in bank, and he made me check out and leave because he wouldn't wait for me to go to bank. Then he cancelled my reservation for the following night because of this. He's lucky I didn't see him elsewhere.

$50/night room at $100/night price. Old building, light breakfast (juice, coffee, pastries). Carpets are old with a moldy smell. Towels and bedding had stains.Checked in too late to try to get another room. Not terrible but tolerable.

We had no need for a pool, exercise room, etc., so we were thrilled with the value, including breakfast each morning and free wifi. We will definitely go back next time we are in Wilmington.

Well, for the physical building itself, it's fine. It's what you would expect for the price anyway. Rooms were big and everything you need is there. The problem with this hotel is that there is no hot water. I took a cold shower in the morning and was slightly upset about it. I went to tell the management only to find out they already knew about it, but didn't bother saying anything to me. The manager tried to tell me you have to run the water for a long time to get it hot, which is such a lie b... Read more

I booked this hotel at the last minute with my fiance and her family, upon arriving and seeing the location, I admit I had my doubts about staying here and the staff didn't make me feel any better about it, from when I checked in the manager just stared at me as if I was going to steal something. When I got to my room my negative night slipped away, the room had been renovated from top to bottom. My bed was comfortable and I was in driving distance to most places. There was no noise whatsoever, ... Read more

This being the weekend when college students return to the campus, this was one of only 2 hotels still available at a reasonable rate. I checked in to room #101, which had an extremely moldy smell, the bathtub was very stained, and I was actually scared to stay here. However, I had little choice, spent the night and checked out at 6am the next morning. I have stayed at Wyndham properties quite frequently, but I will make a big turn around this one in the future. This is certainly not what I had... Read more

The room decor and upgrades were nice, and the bed was comfortable, but the bathtub still had a dirt ring around it and there was hair on the rim of the tub. The toiler was half cleaned and the sink looked as if someone had pored soda in it and didn't rinse it out. The couch was dirty and I didn't want to sit on it. I ended up cleaning the bathroom myself, so I didn't report it. Won't be staying there again.

I recently booked a room here and made reservations through hotels.com. Manger told me I could stay there without a backup credit card even thought the room was paid for. Got there and wouldn't follow through on promise. Now that I'm here need to find another room.

For 100 bucks a night I felt that this hotel is in the Motel 6 category. The location had a few folks loitering around the premise which made me felt unsafe. The interior room looks like they were just remodel but done in a cheap and poor way..where I come from it's call "slap up job". If I paid below 50 bucks I wouldn't complain but at 100 bucks a night I would expect a better place. Just to give you a sense or security, the guest checkin room where the folks were working was sitting behind... Read more

The toilet was plugged when we got there. When we called the desk the clerk expected me to come get the plunger and fix it myself. I got very angry. She did find "someone". I think he didn't want to come down.

My husband and I had been trying to get back to the beach since August! Finally made a quick one night 2-day trip to Kure Beach but stayed in Wilmington. Didn't want to spend much money since it was just one night. Big mistake! By far the worst place we have ever stayed at in Wilmington. The minute we opened the door it stunk horribly! The carpet smelled as if it had been soaking wet for a long period of time. We never unpacked! Bathroom was clean but that's all I can say good!

Worst place I have ever stayed. Got to room and it was 80 degrees in the room. No air running. Room smelled really bad. Sheets were wrinkled, not sure if they were clean or not. The positive side was that the bathroom was clean. I know I got a deal on the room but I will stay and pay more if this is what you get. Wifi signal was so weak you couldn't connect. Horrible. You could give me a free night and I would not stay at this Howard Johnson. I thought Wyndham group was a good hotel chain?

I loved my little room at Howard Johnson Express Inn. It has two queen sized beds, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, cute circle shaped mirrors, everything you need to be comfortable. The only draw back is it smells like this room was recently converted from a smoking room to a non-smoking room. I have horrible allergies to smoke so I've been dealing with sneezing, runny nose, and watery eyes. Not cool.
