I was attractive by the TripAdvisor rating and the low price. Yikes. Lobby with grungy tiles, decor from 90s, tv with cathode ray tube, parking lot where I was sure I'd come back to my car on cinder blocks. Honest, I stood outside at 9 pm and saw two rooms with lights in a ten story tower. It's the kind of place where someone could get away with a great crime and no one would know for days. This place needs to retire from hospitality. The night clerk would not look me in the eyes. Like I said,... Read more

The Good: This is an historical gem and it appears it's "bones" are good. It's design is magnificent and, if you close your eyes, you can imagine it in it's glory. The mezzanine view is transcendent - with all the flashing chandeliers and molding. It has the aura of great history. (Also, it was very cheap and the people I met were nice). The Bad: It's in major need of some TLC. It appears that some renovations were done a few years ago, but not enough was spent or it wasn't spent in the right w... Read more

We arrived on Friday April 15, 2016 and the surrounding sites were very concerning. The parking lot was dark and in need of repair (our SUV scraped the ground pulling out) and is POORLY lit! There were no ramps to carry in luggage unless you went to the front. Upon walking into the building I was greeted with an aroma of filth and grime... The floors were cracked and filthy, the Windows had a film of scum, grease and finger prints.... Although the overall setting was nice--for the 1900's...The e... Read more

I was just at the Hotel Utica in Utica, New York this past weekend, 4/15/16 thru 4/17/16. I booked the hotel since my son wanted to go to the Open House at his prospective college, SUNY Polytechnic Institute. We decided to stay for a couple of days and see what the surrounding area has to offer. First of all, all three entrances have stairs and no ramp, which is not conducive to luggage. The lobby looks like it was once really grand. It has an open floor plan, high ceilings and grand chande... Read more

I rarely stay in a hotel within a little more than an hour of home, but a conference at Hamilton College necessitated a stay for a couple nights in the Utica area. I decided to find a place a little less expensive than the conference hotel, and this one looked good and would get me Choice Privileges points. First impressions weren't great, as it was not obvious how to find the parking, and that parking is on the somewhat run-down back side of the building. I'd suggest investing some improveme...
