"Overall the wellington was a pleasant stay. It was clean and in a great location - walking distance to Times Square, Central Park and subway stations. I only have one real issue with staying the wellington hotel. I emailed earlier asking in advance if we could check in earlier than 3pm as we arrived at 6:30am after a 23 hour flight from Australia. We understood that the room would not be available straight away but would have appreciated it being ready anytime from 11ish-2ish). Upon arrival the lady said that they would do their best, even if it meant perhaps switching our room to one that was available. She also informed us that the cleaners did t start until 9:30am, so 11am would be the earliest time. We were happy with this, we refreshed and went on a bus tour... We were practically falling asleep on the bus and decided to go back to the hotel... By this time it was 1:30pm. We were told it was still not ready... We had been awake for 29 hours now... We decided to stay in the lobby, no seats were left so we sat In the corner on the floor... We thought by waiting here they would be able to grab us as soon as the room was ready. We couldn't fight our eyes anymore (I couldn't anyway my husband did) and I dozed on and off. We kept seeing couples arriving and being taken to their room, while we were waiting... At 2:50 my husband went up and asked and was told that the room was ready... We were a little disappointed that it had been ready for awhile but had not bothered to tell us, when clearly we were in need of it. We had requested a room earlier, and although we understand that this is not always possible we expected a little more empathy. We offered to pay for an extra night as well but was refused. After our first night we were awoken by the cleaners at 8:50 am - so much for starting at 9:30am which we were told, and this happened every single day! Obviously the cleaners room was near ours.... The walls are paper thin - we could hear people in others room chatting and even sneezing on occasion. New York is loud so bring ear plugs to sleep. Like I said great location and clean... For that price we should have been treated a lot better at the start! Although, it is New York... And I struggled to find anything cheaper than that with it's own restroom."

"Upon arrival the first thing that caught my eye was the multi color lighting behind the markee above the entrance. My first impression wasn't good as these motel like colors, in my opinion, lack the vintage image reflected throughout the hotel. The doormen were courteous and open the door for you upon entry and exiting of the hotel and will gladly assist you with your luggage. The front desk was adequately supported by three courteous desk personnel. The lobby area was clean, secure as are the elevators and hallways. Some might say the rooms are small...maybe it was just their room, but you get what you pay for, just never sacrifice on quality. While small, but quaint, my room did not disappoint. It was equipped with all that business travelers and vacationers require. The bed was clean, comfortable and the room was quiet and tastefully designed. The bathroom was clean and properly provisioned. The hotel is conveniently located between Central Park and Times Square. I would stay here again should the price be right again. My one and only true complaint was the housekeeper that turned my room. On two consecutive days she attempted to enter my room without knocking, once with the chain on and the other direct admittance with any apology. There was no knock, followed by the universal 'housekeeping', pause and entry...it was swipe and in the door. Oh well ..I was awake and in bed."

"We had a last minute opportunity to see a show in NYC and wanted to find a hotel that was reasonably priced and close to the studio. We were very pleased with the Wellington! If you are looking for luxury and somewhere to spend a week long stay this is not the place for you. However if you are looking for a place to shower and sleep this place is great. The room was on the small side but we weren't uncomfortable. The beds and especially the pillows were comfortable. The air conditioning worked ok. The room itself was dated and certainly could use some changes but we were fine with it. The location is perfect! Close to Broadway, Times Square and Central Park. We were given vouchers for free breakfast. I thought it would literally be a packaged muffin. I was wrong. The breakfast voucher gave you two choices; eggs, homefries and a meat, or pancakes or french toast. The food was really good too! The dooman and front desk staff were helpful and pleasant as well. We will definitely consider the wellington !!"

"Great location. Clean. Price is right. Friendly staff. This is the sort of hotel stay you choose because you are mostly interested in the location, with no intention of hanging out in the hotel. The hotel is just right for setting your head down after a busy day, especially when you consider its location and price.
If I wanted a hotel to hang out in, this would not be my first choice. The rooms are dated as is the rest of the hotel. You will be dining elsewhere. There are rough edges everywhere once you start to look more closely at the details.
So think about what you need for your trip. If you just need the basics at a good price with a fantastic location, this is a very good choice."

All I can review is how well the front office staff and the front office manager, Michael Timmerman, handled the situation of the overbooking of the hotel. We arrived and were told politely by the front desk staff member, that the Wellington had overbooked for the night and that they had arranged for a comparable room across the street at Park Central Hotel. Michael Timmerman handled us very nicely. A bellman carried our bags over and for our trouble he had a bottle of champagne brought to our room. It was my daughter's 25th birthday and it made for quite a festive evening! Thank you. Hopefully the next time we come into New York we really will be able to stay at the Wellington. Marie Moore"

"LOVED LOVED LOVED this hotel!! The staff was amazing, friendly and always had a smile on their face!! Our room had an outstanding view! The room was hot but we just kept both windows open!! R absolute best room with a small balcony!! The bathroom is small but was not a problem for the two of us! We had an appointment one morning and it was raining so hard, the bellman went out of his way to find us an umbrella to use!! The location of the hotel is excellent, right next to Carnegie Hall...great places to eat right near hotel!!! Definitely with stay here again!!!"

"Just returned from my trip to NYC stayed at the Wellington for 3 nights. I returned home exhausted. I expected the smallness of the room but did not expect the clanging of the radiator all through the night. It literally sounded like someone was banging two metal pipes together. This happened randomly all throughout the night. Also we could not regulate the temperature in the room. We had to keep both windows open and it was still hot. The temperature outside was in the 30's. Everything in the room was one ply such as the Kleenex, toilet paper and bed sheets. The mattress was uncomfortable and older. The bathroom was about the size of a cruise ship bathroom and the water from the shower sprayed every where. The shower curtain was not long enough or wide enough to cover the whole tub. Missed having a coffee maker in the room also. About the only good thing about this hotel was the location. In fairness to the stall, we did not complain or have any interaction besides check in and check out. Obviously we were in a room that had not been remodeled. I would be willing to pay $50-$75 more per night to get a decent nights sleep. I can not recommend this hotel and would not book again."

"When we checked in, we were told that there was no room for us just to stay one night. The lady at the counter told us the owner of the Wellington Hotel has another hotel nearby and we would be moved to that hotel. We are disappointed with this kind of treatment. "The hotel was certainly inexpensive by New York standards, but the room was tiny and the bathroom even smaller. I was bothered by the fact that you had to pay extra for internet access, especially now when every cafe has complimentary WiFi. It was also very noisy at night with loud voices in the hall. On our last night there was a high wind and it whistled loudly through the windows and kept us awake.

"Decent hotel. I booked it minutes before arriving and was able to find a good price, especially since you can see Time Square from the front door; it is 10 blocks from the heart of Time Square. The only knock is that the rooms are too small and it's under construction. I had two beds in my room which turned out ot be two twins, I couldn't even move and I think my brother, who's 6'2' fell off of his bed. Not a bad location. However, there is a subway station outside the doors and it is around the corner from the Russian Tea Room, next door to Carnegie Hall, and around the corner from Le Parke Merridian Hotel which has the secret burger joint in it. Try it if you're in the area."

"The room was the size of a closet, but for the two of us, it was decent. The bed was broken, and we had to push it against the wall in order to not roll off in the middle of the night. It was extremely hot after a shower - we had to leave our door open for ventilation. The other guests nearby slammed their doors at all hours of the day/night. The reception desk and doormen were very helpful and friendly, which made up for the rest of our experience. 10 minute walk from Times Square and about 2 blocks from Central Park. Would only recommend for budget-savvy travelers - we probably will spend the extra $50 to stay somewhere else next time."

"Great hotel! The staff was wonderful. Great location! Easy walk to everything! Will stay there again. I do advise spending extra $$ for private transportation from the airport. The shuttle service took 2 hours to get us to the hotel (20 min. drive) and delivered us back to the airport 4 hours before our flight.This cut into our vacation time. "

Reception good but a bit slow - not my experience but I was aware of a line at all times.
Location of hotel is excellent. When I lost my luggage ticket temporarily the concierge was very helpful and accomodating.
Reading my booking I did not realise this included breakfast which would have been a benefit.

"We had such a wonderful experience at the Wellington. We were fortunate enough to be given one of the newly renovated rooms. They were still doing some construction near the room but we did not hear any of it. The room was absolutely beautiful, decent size by NYC standards. The location was just perfect. Subway right outside the hotel.
We only had one issue and that was a noisy, clicking air conditioner outside of our room. Good thing I always bring earplugs to NYC!
We had a deal that included breakfast and were surprised by how nice it was. The hotel and restaurant staff were all very nice, helpful and friendly.
My husband and I have stayed in at least 20 hotels in NYC and found this one to be one of the best...... (for the under 300 night stays!)

Our visit to the Wellington was uneventful but I felt that we were placed in an area of the hotel which was very outdated and extremely small. We actually were luck to fit in the bed together. The desk girls were extremely courteous. Also, the management in the adjoining restaurant were pleasant and service very good. Not sure, but was told by another guest that the rooms were very nice. So I have to question why were we placed in such an area of the hotel that was like being placed in a cellar room. The proxsimity to other sites was great!"

"Overall the hotel was very nice. The staff was great and we enjoyed our stay. However, the airconditioning in the room (even though it was winter, the room was hot) did not work well. We called the maintenance man and he did completely turn off the heat, but we were never really cool in the room.
The wait for the elevator was out of control. Not sure what can be done about that but we were extremely disappointed in its efficiency.
We booked a town car to return us to the airport and he was late. We arrived at the airport in plenty of time, but the driver was very noncaring about the fact that he was late. It was raining, so we requested he come earlier because we knew the traffic would be bad but he was still later than the original time we had booked him for and did not call to tell us he was running late."

No fridge, no safe, not even and ice bucket and a typical old New York décor. This is was the least expensive on our particular days for the Times Square area, but I do believe there are better alternatives around the same price point, so I would recommend looking around a bit."

"Had a very nice stay at this hotel with my wife and two kids. It's a bit older and dated, but it was clean, the room was large, and the location is fantastic. No bed bugs. Our room was surprisingly large, the two double beds fairly comfortable, and our room even had a kitchenette -- which was great for leftovers. For the price, I think it's hard to beat this hotel, given its ideal location. Only a few blocks from the park, and just north of times square. And there's a subway stop literally 20 feet from the side door of the hotel. I recommend this hotel, and would stay there again."

"Overall I can't complain about the Wellington Hotel. It is in a great location, within walking distance (less than a mile) to Times Square, Central Park, Rockefeller Center. The hotel is a bit dated, room was small, but it was clean and as well-kept as to be expected for an older hotel. I didn't seem to find a thermostat, so when the room got a little warm, we just opened windows. We did overload the electric system with a hair dryer, but it may have been because with 3 women in the room, we had all the plugs used up. But they flipped the breaker right back on. There is Subway access right out the main entrance... which was convienient. The on premise diner had excellent breakfast. The store is convienient, and you can purchase airport transportation there as well as beverages. Being from the south, we are used to alot of sunlight, and were just a little disappointed that our view was of the shadowed backside of the adjacent hotel. But i'm sure that if the hotel had not been full, we could have asked for a room with a view, and been accomodated. As for the price, it was within budget for this trip, so I wasn't too concerned with price. I've stayed at hotels all over the price spectrum, and this priced accordingly. Overall I would give it about 3 stars, just because it is a bit dated, and our room was a bit small, even though it had 2 separate bed/ bath spaces. A television in the adjacent room would have been nice, along with a separating door. The baths consist of a stand up shower and a full bath/ shower. The stand up shower is a bit tight, and with the shower head is up a little higher than normal. Water was always hot. With that, for the amount of time we spent in the room, it was perfect for this trip. I would recommend and would go back if I didn't have other options, but would probably find another hotel that has a little new accomodations. I am just not one to stay in the same hotel in the same big city more that once, I like to try new things...."

You can tell they have tried and overall it's ok. The sister property gives free WIFI and continental breakfast. My daughter was dancing in the 2012 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade and we wanted to stay close to her at the Hilton without being there. The location is perfect and easy walking distance to any major attractions. The room was small but it was clean. The bathroom was tiny and tired. There was literally a pedestal sink with a four inch shelf. My toothbrush barely fit. And no towel racks so the towels were piled on the toilet. The staff was helpful but not overlly friendly. The price was right and that's what I was looking for this time. NYC on a budget? Wellington is a good choice."

"Don't be fooled by the beautiful photos and the 'newly renovated' rooms on their website. Our room was very old with peeling wallpaper, cracked sink basin, uneven floors, etc. Not at all what we were expecting.
However, with that being said, we had plenty of room and the hotel is in a phenomenal location. We booked a double/double and it was actually set up as 2 separate bedrooms, both of which had plenty of space including sitting areas. The room also unexpectedly had a kitchenette, but the appliances and counter tops look to be from the 60's or 70's. We didn't use it.
The hotel staff was very nice, but did not listen very well. We had four guests in our room, yet they only ever left enough towels for three. Every day we had to request more towels. Annoying, but at least they didn't hassle us to get more.
Our stay included complimentary breakfast at Park Cafe (connected to the hotel) which was delicious and very much appreciated.
I would stay here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice."

We were blown away with how close we were to all the action in Time Square for such little price. We originally did not have high expectations of the hotel because of its price but found it to be fine. The service was nice, they let us check in early and stored our luggage when we checked out for the day but still wanted to explore the city. The room was small but more spacious then I expected. The bed was very comfortable. You could tell that the hotel was old and the elevators were small, but I think for the price it cost, it really was great value and I would definitely recommend it."

The minuses: Very small room, room is a bit shabby and dark, no control over the the heat in the room. My biggest complaint is that the heat is on a central control and doesn't kick in (and then very noisily) until the temp drops to below 50 degrees. For almost $300 a night, I feel like I should be allowed to warm the room as I like it."

"Comparatively speaking, the Wellington is a good value. Staying around Times Square is not going to be cheap. Having made my reservations several weeks in advance, I was surprised upon arrival to be led to a room with a single double bed after reserving a double/double. This was corrected by giving us a Jr. Suite which was fine. While not being a 'room with a view' it was relatively quiet. We were relegated to the 'old' wing of the hotel which included several steps. The rooms were decent sized but, based upon pictures on the Internet, they have a very good photographer! There is a Subway station right outside the door and taxis were plentiful and the attached Cafe was very good."

We experienced a quick check-in, a complimentary bottle of wine to help celebrate my birthday, staff always smiling and helpful, and an always gracious doorman to open the doors after a long day of sightseeing and walking around this beautiful city. We did not find one thing to complain about. We loved it all. Sure if you are looking for opulence and a 5 star experience you need to go to a more fancy location. However, if you are interested in a quiet, cozy, comfortable and very clean hotel-book at the Wellington. You won't regret it. In fact, we will hopefully be back next year!!"

"This was our first trip to NYC and we had a great time. The hotel, though the room was small it was immaculate and had what we needed, a washroom and a bed - the rest of the time we were out exploring the city. For those heading to NYC I highly recommend Hop on Hop off bus tours it's worth the money and very convenient, my only issue is that it would be nice that they ran later then 6pm. The hotel was in the perfect spot, mins walk from all the sites; times square, the rock, late night with david letterman, central park to name a few. Expect the hallways and the rooms to be small but that's what we were expecting and wanted to have the old time new york experience, which we did. Loved it and will go back. Make sure to eat at Juniors and have a slab of their cheesecake. "

"Horrible Service. Reached the hotel at 11pm and did not get into our room until after 1am because the hotel overbooked. We were only in NY for the weekend. They sent us to their partner hotel 1/2 a block away. After being promised we could stay there, the front desk at the Blakely could only promise 1 night so we would have to pack everything back up the next day and walk back to the Wellington for the 2nd night. That was not acceptable. We went back to the Wellington and forced them to figure something out. They then miraculously found a room for us. NOTHING like the pictures they post. Horrible experience."

"The best I can say for this hotel is the location. One can easily walk to Central Park and Times Square and trendy shopping. I felt it was quite overpriced for what it offered. Not sure why rates went up that particular week, but this was one of the costliest rooms I've paid in NYC. I wouldn't have minded if it was luxurious, but my room reminded me of a large Motel , and not even as new! The bedding was very old looking and the mattress was saggy in the middle with pillows that were lumpy poly fill . Bathroom was tiny with no fan and got steamy fast when showering. The AC unit blew directly onto one of the beds, only 2 feet away, so had to be turned off at night.it was nice having a kitchen but there were no utensils or dinnerware, so we couldn't even have dry cereal unless we bought disposable bowls, utensils, etc.I didn't like not having a safe in the room and really missed a coffee maker. After a long day I was looking forward to soaking in the bathtub, but the drain stopper didn't work. We stayed up very late and slept in and had the 'Do not disturb'sign on our door, but we're awakened two mornings to see if we wanted our rooms cleaned! I will not stay here again and was very disappointed. This place needs serious up-grading for what they are charging."

"The hotel had a great location, couple min walk to times square and central park. It is out dated, but the rooms were clean. We ended up getting a small suit, with microwave, fridge and a living room with a pull out coach and two TVs, which was pretty amazing. We had more space than we needed. The room itself was quit, but didn't have any view or sunlight. But that was fine since we were only there to sleep anyway. The staff was very nice and helpful. If I can find a better deal I wouldn't come back, mainly because of its old age."

"The location was Great for this hotel. The only thing I really would have liked was a coffee pot @ frig in the room. The price was very reasonable thru Bookit.com. I even asked for a upgrade to 2 doubles when we got there and got it for No extra charge. They have a restaurant connected to the hotel we ate at for breakfast every morning (we had coupons) it was very good. Carnegie deli is across the street from the hotel. For the price it wass a good deal and clean hotel. I just like my coffee first thing in the morning and would like to have it without getting dressed and going downstairs. They do offer room service. I just would like to have coffee when I am getting ready in the morning."

That said, I had to make a quick trip back and the price for 2 night with tax and breakfast was less that I ordinarily pay for 1 night of hotel in the city without tax and breakfast. "The hotel is nostalgic yes, the carpet and decorations are vintage, this is the charm of the hotel. You are in NYC and you cannot expect 21st century décor in a hotel of this age.
The hotel is very clean the staff is incredible the location is outstanding.
Please note %u2013 if you want to get to time square from the hotel the most direct route is straight down 7th avenue. We made the mistake of walking down 5th or Broadway and didn't realize walking down 7th was the direct path.
Subway station is 1 block north. Central Park is 2 blocks north. Everything uptown is within a half mile walk. We Highly recommend Café Metro across the street for breakfast %u2013 2 bagels & coffee for $10.00

"We traveled as a couple with my sister, who graciously said we should upgrade to a one bedroom suite to give us some privacy. That left her with a pull out sofa that was at least 20 years old with a thin, lumpy mattress. Definitely not able to sleep on it. She had to put it back together and just sleep on the sofa. Not ideal and NOT an upgrade. If you have more than 2 people it would be better to do a two-doubles room.
But the location was perfect, quieter than being right on Times Square but only a couple of blocks away from it and closer to Central Park. Subway steps right outside the side door and taxis outside the front door."

"When we first checked in I asked for a nice room facing the street. The lady did not tell me that what they had available were run down old rooms. I had to call and request a new room or I was going to find another hotel. Well all it took was a one call and I was immediately changed to an updated and nicer room. I really enjoyed my trip after the first 10 minutes of fear I would have to sleep in a nasty room. The staff was nice and the location was perfect. I will return to this hotel but only if I get an updated room."

"We couldn't have had a better experience. A group of 8 (a total of 4 rooms) went to New York for shopping, site-seeing , theatre, and the US Open.. We were quite surprised by our rooms...Three were lucky enough to receive 2 bedrooms plus 2 bathrooms, the other room was upgraded to a suite with a kitchenette, and living room...would have been nicer to have 2 bathrooms but still a very nice change from a single room with 2 beds only. The staff was extremely accommodating, especially the concierge...from the get go he sent a shuttle to the airport for us ....very reasonably priced and so courteous,and friendly...We used the shuttle quite frequently over the next 3 days. Very dependable and efficient...I would highty recommend this hotel..."

"Just returned from a stay at the Wellington, Sept 1-6, 2012.
PROS: Enough cannot be said about the excellent location. With a subway right outside the side door and another a block away, as well as being able to walk to Times Square and have NUMEROUS restaurants for all meals within a 2 block radius, enough cannot be said about this hotel. 4 of us stayed there, 2 adults & 2 older teens and the room was so incredibly spacious! We had a 1 bedroom suite and asked for 2 twin beds as opposed to a queen so that any sleeping arrangement could be accommodated (kids are male and female and cant sleep together). 2 TVs made it perfect! View was great, looking out on 7th avenue. Air conditioning worked wonderfully. Room was as big as an apartment with a full size kitchen, hot plate, microwave, small fridge and THREE closets. The bathroom was smaller but certainly adequate with a full-size tub. It was right down the block from Central Park, beautiful!
CONS: There are no supplies in kitchen; take or buy your own paper plates & cups, etc. Rug & kitchen were a bit worn and dated so if you are picky this is not the place for you. The hide-a-bed which counted as a queen bed was horrendous, old, worn, with the bars & springs felt and the head slanting downwards, and couldn't really sleep even 1 person comfortably, however the couch itself was long enough to sleep on. Although you don't spend much time in your room, when you are there you are exhausted and a good night's sleep is imperative for an enjoyable trip so this may be an issue for many. Last night/day we did not have hot water and when I called the front desk was told they had to get an engineer in the morning but we were leaving @5:30 AM so that didn't help. On checkout (same day) I told the clerk and he said he 'didn't get any calls' (uh huh). Elevators are a bit small (but very efficient) and halls are narrow if you are claustrophobic. It is a very busy end of town if this is bothersome to you."

"Like the reviews I read on here, I have to agree that this hotel is dated (not that bad, though, there are far worse). HOWEVER, it is extremely clean, staff are very attentive, and for NYC the price is right! That, in combination with the fact that this hotel's best asset is it's EXCELLENT location (right in between Times Square and Central Park, with subway access literally outside the main door), is why I would definitely stay here again. It doesn't get much more convenient than that! We stayed in a corner room on the 19th floor and it was nice to look out and see the bright lights of Times Square at night, yet we were far enough away from the noise and congestion. As for the Park Cafe attached to the hotel, it was just ok, nothing special."

"The hotel was conveniently located to everything. The hotel room had a small fridge and microwave and a separate bedroom which was nice; however, it was very outdated and the room could be cleaner. The bathroom was also outdated and there took a while for you to adjust the water temperature but at least you had a lot of hot water. The toilet would take almost 3 minutes to refill the tank and one of the mattresses had a sink in the middle which was uncomfortable. However the other mattresses were fine. The would be a nice and comfortable hotel if they put some money in updating the rooms. If you plan to be out most of the time, it's great location."

"I traveled with my son, 17 years and we stayed in a double/double. The bonus was we received a one bedroom suite. It was great to have a whole room to myself. The hotel room easily could have slept 6 people, the main living area had two double beds. We had a microwave and fridge. Our view was bad, a brick wall and after a few days the smell of New York sewer would waft in from the air conditioning I guess. The location of this hotel is fabulous. We could walk anywhere or subway right out the side door. Also I appreciated that there were multiple places to go a get good food right in the area. Coffee could be bought at $2 for a large and fresh made muffins/pastries and any kind of breakfast for $3.99 or less. Lunch or dinner at cafe/diners take out places, anything you want for $6.99. New York has lots of food. You can spend a lot or a little. I liked to be able to grab food and eat in Central park or back at our hotel. We traveled in August so temperatures are hot. I love New York. This hotel was adequate, but I like something fancier so I won't stay here again. It truly is a great location and it was clean and the cleaning staff was really great as were the baggage people.
I would not stay in a tourist district again. I prefer the outskirts of Manhattan. You can always subway where you need to go...."

"I had made plans with the reservation desk to have a room ready when we arrived due to a Dr appt for my husband- the only room avaliable was a smoking room (which i guess wasnt the worst thing) but we were put in the non renovated side- it was dirty feeling and dark- window view was to the side of the building and a fifthy alley. The keys tro the room rarely worked but towards the end of the trip it really didnt matter as you could slide the card in the door jam and the door would open right up. I loved the location- wish there had been more 'little comforts' like coffee pot-----cups------a fridge that didnt freeze everythging- a shower that wasnt like a fire hose- an unclogged sink-and a more consistent temprature in the building. like I said---the location is perfect for anything you want to do or see in NY-----i would return to see what the renovatations are like"

"Everything as presented By Wellington Hotel is a fact. Very close to everything one would want to do. One problem, the coffee shop adjoined to the hotel. The manager and some stafff were rude. They were in a hurry to get us out. They cleaned up while we were still sitting there. Removing used dishes is fine but wiping down tables and resetting is not. We had just barely finished and were discussing what to do next. We were not there for a prolonged period of time. When one of my party arrived one morning he stated he needed a table for three and the other two persons in his party would down momentarily. The manager did not like this and wanted to only give him a table for one. His wife and I could not have been more than 5 minutes probably less."

"The hotel was in a great location. It was pretty comfortable. The bed was a little bit small, my boyfriend and I were a bit cramped on the full, a queen would be better. The only major minus was the bathroom. The light did not always work, one minute it was on the other it wasn't. The bathtub looked like something was eating away at it, so we were hesitant to step in the shower. But the people there were nice and helpful. The baggage check in was a very nice option to have, we were able to enjoy our last couple of hours without having to drag our luggage around. overall, i would recommend this place!"

"On our arrival, the hotel upgraded us to a suite. Minutes after the porter left the room the airconditioning (in the bedroom) and lights/tv quit working. Maintenance said it was the circiut breaker. Hotel reception offered to move us but they wouldn't have 2 single beds which we wanted. I opted not to move since we preferred the 2 single beds. Their computer in the reception area also not working well just using all the money it can, their printer would not work, then a hotel porter said that another guest also had the same complaints. I think they need an overhaul maintenance!."

"The Hotel was a huge dissappointment! We upgraded to a king bed which was an additional $40/night for a room that was small and old. We were also told our room would be a recently remodeled room, which it was not. The shower went from freezing cold to scalding hot, never consistent. Our room was on the 10th floor and the elevators only worked twice in the three days we were there. We took the stairs every day, even having to carry our luggage down at check out. I would never stay there again."

"Based on the fact that this was a last minute trip and limited availability at other hotels, The Wellington seemed to be our best choice.
Pros: It is in a wonderful location! The front desk staff did their best to find a room to fit our needs with two children and did not get irritated that we requested a view. We ended up having a view of Central Park from our room. The bellmen are very friendly and helpful - much more than we experienced in other hotels in New York! Temperatures were in the upper 80's - 90 during our stay and the hotel was always very cool - well air-conditioned.
Possible Cons: The hotel is similar to what one would find in Europe. It is simply an old hotel and the rooms are very 'basic' - no 'fluff'. We were only in our room to 'recharge' and sleep, so it was fine. Since the hotel is old, the rooms are all different. I believe the condition and cleanliness of your room really depends on each particular room. There is not a 'standard' room. (For example, we had two double beds but two different rooms and two bathrooms - which was great. It was evident that they had converted our 'room' from two smaller rooms.)
If you are looking for the accommodations of a modern hotel (large rooms, swimming pool, coffee maker, etc. - for example as one would find in a 'Marriott' or 'Sheraton' brand hotel), this would not be for you."

"Although the city is at a frantic pace - we found we could relax and unwind in our room. actually we pleasantly surprised to find not only did we have two beds but a two room suite which worked great for my sister and I. The hotel was clean and prepaying made the check-in go quickly. I had requested a renovated room since previous comments had been on the poor lighting and the lighting was very dim with no overhead lighting which made me believe we didn't get the renovated room requested but the suite was very nice and comfortable. "We weren't sure what to expect with the cost being so much lower than similarly located hotels but were very pleased. The room was quite large and well furnished/decorated, the only thing missing was a small fridge. We chose the rear wing so it would be away from 7th ave and quieter and found the elevators slow and small and very hot. The hotel location was excellent and very central to getting around. Our only complaint was that there are no ice machines and you have to go down to the lobby and ask the bellhop for a bucket of ice. We would definitely recommend this hotel."

"Me and my girlfriend have been to the city many times. We love the city so we choose a different hotel each time for a different experience. This was not the best of them. The only good thing about this hotel is its location. Very close to all the sights in mid town. This hotel is in need of some major upgrades though, you feel as if you traveled back in time to the 30's when you walk in. The staff does make up for this though. Very friendly! The room was just horrible! Half the lights didn't work in our room, and the ones that did when you turned them on they would flicker for over a minute. The shower you have two options. Hot and scalding! And the elevator not only takes forever it feels like a furnace when you finally get in. Stay somewhere else if your not on a super budget!"

"The location is great, but the friendliness of the staff left a lot to be desired. We arrived early so our room was not yet available. We asked to leave our bags with the bell hop. He took them, but was unfriendly and quite rude. The hotel is old, so we expected some concessions on the condition of the building. Our room was very small and the paint seemed to be chipping everywhere. The shower drain was clogged so water in the tub was inches thick. They need better pillows and a coffee pot in the room. We come from Hawaii and had just been to Washington D.C. and Florida in the days prior. The hotels we stayed at in both places were much cheaper and of better quality."

"This hotel was by far not a good choice. Upon arrival we were greeted by door staff but as we located the front desk the attendent who was at the desk took over 4 minutes to even acknowledge us. Once we arrived in our room we discoverd their were no face rags we immediately in formed the front desk but it took them over 30 minutes to deliver. Our bathroom had this awful sound when you took a shower and the room was small. I'm rating this hotel a 2 out off 10."

"I would like to complain about my stay. It was nasty!!! My apartament 543 is very old, the window has no view to nowhere and very hard to open. In addition, it isvery noisy: during the mornings doors are hitting all time. And the customer service is very bad. It was a bad experience and I don´t recommend the hotel to anyone!!!!!"

"At first glance and with the review ratings it looked like a decent hotel at a decent price. When I walked into the room it was tiny, then there was a huge stain on the carpet, then the pull down window shade wouldn't stay down (it would only stay down after I piled up the phone books with the bible with the iron placed on the pull down shade), then the pipes in the bathroom made noise constantly even if I wasn't in there with water running, then the shower head would shoot water everywhere, then the the air conditioner (whether it was on or off) every once in a while would sound like a mechanical cat barfing, then to top it off during the middle of the night when i had the air conditioner on it would go from working fine to pumping out HOT air. I should have stayed somewhere else for the price they charged me."

"The location was great, the price was right, and the place seemed clean, but it is old with the usual accompanying problems. The bed was small (not even sure it was a full size mattress), the mattress was old and not firm, the bathroom was VERY small, dark and hot, the heater and A/C were very slow to respond. The window shade wouldn't stay down, and we took the stairs frequently, rather than wait for the elevators. Walls are thin (you can hear everything next door) and the view from the window was of a brick wall (we could never tell whether it was day or night). However, if you are travelling as a single person and on a budget, it's a very good deal, but for a couple, not so good."

"Although I had a very friendly and welcoming staff at the Front Desk, it annoyed me standing there waiting to be acknowledged while 4 Front Desk Agents were hovering around the desk area. At least acknowledge the guest on the other side of the desk saying they'll be right with you. No-one was on the phone and there were only 2 of us trying to get settled in. :( On the other hand, the engineering department was right on hand when my son needed help to get his new toy unscrewed from the base of the box and when the neighboring rooms shower started making whistling noises in our bathroom, which scared us. Housekeeping did an excellent job. The room was well maintained and in top shape every night upon our return from the city. Location is amazingly close to Central Park and Time Square. Loved the 2 minute walk to Central Park in the morning."

"This trip was a 'Bucket List' trip for our friends. We wanted to give them the complete NYC experience. We had stayed here previously and loved it. When we arrived they told us they overbooked and asked if we would take a room at their sister hotel. We got a promise of an upgraded room. They took us over to the hotel which was great. We said we had an early appt. the next day, they told us to bring our bags downstairs and they would take care of everything. We did and they did. WE got a great room on the 26th floor, with a small kitchen (which I know was not in our original reservation). Our room was bigger and had a couch and coffee table. The view from our window was great. This hotel gives you the complete NYC experience. It is older, but well taken care of. The staff was great and very friendly. The location of the hotel is probably one of its best features. We had access to a lot of great attractions. Definitely would recommend."

"We had a wonderful experience. Kudos to the helpful staff and the doormen were amazing (even standing in the middle of the street to get us a cab during peak afternoon traffic!). We had an updated room which was thoroughly modern and everything we asked for was supplied immediately. One of our party was in a room to herself and it was one of the older rooms, not yet updated, but still totally sufficient to her needs. We got a great price on the rooms and the location couldn't have better! We would absolutely recommend the hotel and will stay here again (but would for certain ask for one of the updated rooms if possible)."

"This hotel was a great deal, great price and right in the middle of everything, just a few blocks away and right next to a subway station that took us from hotel down to Times Square, Chinatown and all the way down to the World Trade Center. The Front Desk was very helpful and friendly, however, the Concierge was not friendly at all and didn't make me feel like they were there to help. Not sure if its New York attitude but considering they're there to help they didn't make me feel like using them."

"Right off the bat, they put us on a floor that was being completely renovated. There was hammering and sawing and dust everywhere. The room was tiny and floors didn't even looked like they had been vaccumed. The kitchenette area was old, lyno coming up from the floor, stains, etc. Yuck !! We complained and were moved to another room. This room was on another side of hotel, much nicer, however, had issues with the heat. It was freezing in the room and it took 2 different maintenance men to fix it. We finally got heat but then we were sweating for 4 days, as it was controlled by the hotel and not manually. Very frustrating. The staff was friendly, not very knowledgeable on the city. If you asked one person they would tell you one thing and someone else would tell you another. I can't say they were helpful at all. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, nor would I return."

"Well I can say the positives were that it was literally steps to Carnegie Hall.That was the main reason for our trip was to watch my daughter perform there.It was raining and windy so having the hotel so close was a HUGE plus.That is it.No more positives.This place was a dump!Worst hotel I ever stayed in.The shower was a joke and the rooms were too small even for New York standards.The staff could care less whether you stayed or not and they screwed up my booking."

"My wife and I stayed at The Wellington for 5 nights in Febraury . The hotel is definitly older and could use some upgrading, elevators are slow, feels a bit stuffy and hot, but the location and price make any of the negatives disappear quickly. We booked a promotional Single (Double Bed) Room for only $92/night which is a steal on 7th Avenue. Room was tiny and stuffy, but who really spends much time in their room anyway. I would return to this hotel for sure if the price is right! Right next to Central Park, 10 min walk straight down 7th avenue Times Square. Minutes for the Ed Sullivan Theatre, basically walking distance to many of the top attractions in New York City. Subway access right at Hotel. Overall fantastic first experience in NYC, will definitly return! If you want to spend $300 a night then you will get what you pay for, but if you want to save some serious money for doing other things and still have an amazing time in New York City, then I highly recommend this hotel. Note of advice....Check out some less tourist areas like East Village, Little Italy, SoHo, much cheaper priced food and character areas where locals hang out."

"As a seasoned traveller before making a reservtion I called the Wellington to see if they were expecting any renovations. 'No sir' was their reply. Needless to say I was less than impressed when the cab dropped me off a couple of days before of Hurricane Sandy under scafolding that surrounded the entire hotel. I was booked into a tiny room with a lumpy double bed next to an elevator that had a bell that sounded like a gong. Poorly insulated rooms and doors made made it possible to hear 'everything' in the rooms so forget about getting any sleep. When I complained they claimed they were full and could not move me so... too bad so sad. NY was shut down for the next 2 days. JFK was shut down so I needed to extend my stay. 'No problem sir, we have plenty of rooms because no one is able to check in' said the reception girl with a smile. Then she presented me with their rate for the extra days. My jaw dropped- it went from $200 a night to $350. The options were to find a new hotel during a hurricane or get gouged. I'll sleep in the subway before I'll ever check into the Wellington again."

"My parents, fiance, and I flew to NYC over Thanksgiving break. This was our first trip ever to the city and it was wonderful! The Wellington Hotel was GREAT! It is an older hotel but that just adds to its character. We stayed in a room that had 2 beds-each in its own room, with 2 bathrooms. The setup was very nice! The lobby is beautiful! The convenience of having the Park Cafe right inside the hotel was a bonus. The location of the Wellington is great. It is so close to everything-Times Square and Central Park. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone!"

"Before booking this hotel months ago I called ahead and was assured there were no renovations planned. Imagine my surprise when our cab dropped us off under scafolding that surrounded the hotel on the eve of hurricane Sandy.
The room was small the noise level unbearable. No idea why they need an elevator bell that sounds like a gong so make sure you ask for a room away from an elevator or bring ear plugs. Doors are wafer thin so you can hear both inside and outside the tiny rooms. OK I can put up with these nuisances but when I tried to extend our stay because all the airports were in lock down the girl at recpetion nicely informed me that my $200 room was going to be $350 for the extra stay despite the fact that there were plenty of vacancies since no one was checking in. Rather than risk the debris falling from the surrounding buildings top seek new accomodations I forked over my Visa but I'll sleep in the subway before I'll ever stay here again."

I must say the Hotel staff are the best - rooms were clean and beds quite comfortable - the hotel restauant and coffee shop were the best - meals were great. Best location. The rooms are small and a bit outdated. Don't look under the bed as it seemed like it had not been vacuumed in months. "i have just had my first trip to NY and stayed at this hotel. The rooms were small but very clean. Our room cleaner did an excellent job making sure we had clean towels and every thing else that went with it. it was in a brilliant location very close to all the attractions but best of all the staff were very polite and helpful, they never failed to help and guide on all matters. i would def go there again and have already recommended to friends that are going to NY in September. i will go again ASAP."

"This hotel could be compared with the Tower of Terror in Dysney, I though that this was a joke and we were part of the Borad movie, because that is what the put us in. first the peep hole in the door felt off when we opened the door from the first time, the door did not closed right from the inside, the kitchen had a old microwave on top of the two burners, the heating unit worked sometimes and when it worked it made a loud noise, one time the cover felt off and it was two mouse traps inside, the bathroom was horrible, the toilet paper holder was installed on side of the toilet so you only could sit sideways,the mirror was stained with black marks and the crome was gone from the faucet. we called the front desk and asked them for another room, they told us that that was an upgrade, we paid $1300 with nothing included, no internet, no breakfast, no safe in the room. We suppoused to stay 8 days we moved out on the second."

"The staff was very helpful and courteous. It was extremely conveinient to the subway. However, the rooms were dated and very, very small. There was a doorknob coming off, the paint was peeling and there was black mold in the bathroom. The bathroom did not have an exhaust fan so when you showered the room was covered in steam and dripping wet. Cost of internet was high and even internet in lobby was costly. Not sure if I would stay there again considering some of the items mentioned above."

"Got a great deal on this room, especially considering the location! Right between Time Square and Central Park! Small room, but didn't plan on spending much time there anyway. Most important it was clean! We pulled back all the sheets and the matress cover, immediately upon arriaval and all was clear! Super friendly staff that let us check in early when we arrived two hours before check in! The ONLY issues we had were the really old elevators that are pretty small and like to randomly stop on different floors! Would definitely go back!"

"We were very impressed with the Wellington Hotel. This was a trip for just me and my husband and the location is close enough to walk to Times Square and Fifth Ave. The housekeeping was excellent even though the bldg is old and the staff friendly. We got an upgrade to a renovated room. Would have liked a coffee pot but the room water was hot enough to make tea. The cafe next door actually has a door inside the hotel which is great for cold weather. Has hair salon and the gift shop is open to 11:45 PM. The concierge was helpful and lots of bell boys to help. I liked the way a bell man took us to our room at 12:30 AM to make sure we were comfortable. Will stay here again."

"This hotel is not worth the rate, it looks nice as far as the lobby, but its older and we didn't see wherever it was remodeled. The room was like the size of a jail cell, you can turn around and touch the bed,closet and bathroom at the same time. No view at all, its a brick wall outside the window!
